MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Book Week has provided rich and fertile soil for ideas to germinate and grow. As our students arrived at the end of the week they brought to life hundreds of different characters from the pages of the books we have been reading. I see limitless imaginations and boundless creativity all around the school! Thank you to all our families for your support and encouragement. You will soon be receiving nomination forms and information about the upcoming Board of Trustees elections. This provides an opportunity for all those who wish to stand for election to put their names forward and represent their strengths to the community in a written biography. I am very pleased that 5 of our current Board are standing for election again. It is important to maintain some continuity on a school Board in my view. I wish you and all our students a happy and productive Term 2. It will be a very busy and active 10 weeks with all kinds of opportunities and I encourage everyone to make the most of these. School Winter Uniform

All children now need to be wearing their winter uniform. Please make sure everything has your child’s name on it, including shoes. This make it a lot easier to return lost items to the correct person. Footwear: Black shoes only (no colour markings or white soles) and white socks only. Please no colours, or bright coloured long sleeve tops under school t-shirts etc.

Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month in the upper staff room. These meetings are informal and everyone is very welcome. Playing chess develops self-confidence, concentration and problem-solving skills. We are pleased to continue the Chess Coaching Programme at your school and look forward to bringing the excitement, competition and educational benefits of chess to your children.

Why Chess? * Improve concentration and focus * Develop important life skills – fair play and decision making * Tactical & Strategic thinking * Prepare for Chess Tournaments against other schools * Develop a love of chess, of learning and of thinking

What happens in a Chess Power Coaching Programme? Each session starts with a formal lesson; all players will learn a new strategy, idea or skill each week. Then they put those skills into practice with activities and games. All games are monitored and supervised by the coach who provides individual feedback along the way. Throughout the programme, we reward kids that do well and encourage and support kids that are struggling. At completion of the programme we recognise each child with a certificate based on their performance.
