About the Program|部分表演簡介

Celebrating the Lunar New Year, where family and friends come together and celebrate. The students perform in a fashion show modeled off of the traditional Chinese zodiac, created by the jade emperor. This year is the year of the rat, and It will be another 12 years till it repeats.

The Return of Nian features an American girl who visits China over the Lunar New Year, and despite the efforts of her Chinese friends, she fails to follow New Year traditions and rules.

Taichi Fan is a modern display of the essence of Taichi with the help of hand-held foldable fans. Made popular during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Taichi Fan seamlessly integrates the waving motions of a hand fan with the effortless moves of Taichi to produce a mes-merizing choreography.

The students of LASA’have taken the classic cooking show from TV and turned into a live performance. You’ll get to see all the drama ensue on the stage tonight! We’ve got three judges and three teams with varying skill sets and backgrounds in cooking, but they all want one thing in common: to win. Who will go home with the prize? Watch the perfor-mance to find out.

As is well known, ying and yang, the essence of Taichi, exist in each one of us. So Taichi is as much a form of martial art as it is a philosophy, something that is mysterious, cool and practical all at once for young people.

Chinese ribbon dance is a beautiful and often festive dance style. The red ribbons symbolize good luck for the new year.

Water Come a Me Eye is a Jamaican folk song. Its joyous melody features the characteristic syncopated swinging rhythm.

Legend, or in Chinese 传奇, is a song composed by one of the most talented pop singers in China, Li Jian (李建). Although he is the original singer of the song, it was another talented singer, Wang Fei (王菲), made it a huge hit in China, after she performed the song at the 2010 Spring Festival Gala on China's national TV.

The Westwood performance group haves three shows, one being a song/dance, a skit/song, and a skit.

Skit(草船借箭): A long long, time ago, China was thrust into a civil war between three major kingdoms the Wu, Shu, and Wei kingdoms. In this story, Cao Cao, the leader of the northern kingdom, set out to destroy the southern kingdoms of Wu and Shu. Consequent-ly, the kingdoms of Wu and Shu entered an alliance and prepared to greet Cao Cao at the Southern bank of the Yangtze River. However, this story is not about the battle of Red Cliff, but rather the ingenuity of a genius weatherman and his straw friends. The setting is in the Wu and Shu camp. Zhou Yu, a military strategist for the Wu nation is very jeal-ous of his Shu counterpart Zhuge Liang’s abilities and also very scared of the threat Zhuge Liang poses to the Wu nation after the alliance is over.

This is a play incorporated into a song about 2 lovers being separated by life events, called 公子向北走, with its lyrics reflecting the inner regret and wistfulness of the female lead as she wishes the best for her loved one.

With the core mission to “serve our community, foster our heritage”, and gratefully supported by the Cultural Heritage Festivals Program from the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department, ACAN dedicates this year’s Chinese cultural celebration to all Austinites. Chinese New Year is the most jolly holiday celebrated by Chinese and other ethnic groups all over the world. This year, however, has seen a deadly epidemic rampaging through much of China at the most unfortunate time of the year, severely dousing many festivities around the world. At this time of great uncertainty, this ACCF only becomes possible because of the strong support from our mem-bers, volunteers, corporate sponsors, partners, school students and teachers, RRISD, and most importantly, each one of you here with us. As you satiate your senses with the splendid Chinese cultural elements on display here, we invite you to also sense the resilience and courage that are inherent in the Chinese culture. In the face of adversity, this ACCF serves to remind us to lean on this fortitude, and to welcome the much needed good fortune, ingenuity and resourcefulness that come with the Year of Rat. 春節是世界各地華人的傳統節日。每逢佳節，新朋舊友，闔家團圓，敘舊

情，盼來年，爆竹聲中一歲除，總把新桃換舊符。然而，今年的春節格外

揪心。一場突如其來的新型肺炎席捲中國大陸，波及世界各地，億萬民眾

陷入苦難和無助。此情此刻，本次文化節完全仰仗廣大會員，各中學，各

社團，學區以及贊助企業，特別是每一位嘉賓的合作與支持才成為可能。

各位來賓在體驗豐富多彩的中華文化的同時，一定也會體驗到中華文化頑
