苏州工业园区寒假网络直播课程(英语学科高三年级 B 班)学案 (2 月 16 日)

同话题泛读材料The Australian government said this week it will spend over 34 million dollars on

helping wildlife recover from bushfires. The bushfires crisis threatens several animal species, including koalas and rock wallabies. Josh Frydenberg is the Treasurer(财政部长) of Australia. He told reporters on Monday, "①This has been an ecological disaster, a disaster that is still unfolding." He spoke during a visit to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital, where workers are treating( ) 45 koalas for burns. Frydenberg added that Australia's native trees and plants had been "very badly damaged." Huge wildfires have destroyed more than 11.2 million hectares - nearly half the area of Britain. The fires destroyed or severely damaged the areas where several native animals live. Some estimates suggest as many as one billion creatures have died in the fires or are at risk now because of a lack of food and shelter. This number includes farm animals and family pets like cats and dogs. People around the world are sharing images of animals that survived the fires and videos of people risking their lives to help Australian wildlife( ) . In one program, national park employees used helicopters to air drop ( ) thousands of kilos of carrots and sweet potatoes to brush-tailed rock wallabies in New South Wales (NSW)(新南威尔士州的沙袋鼠) .The state's environment minister Matt Kean said giving them this food is one way Australians are trying to help endangered animals( ) like the wallaby(小袋鼠). "The wallabies typically survive the fire itself," he said, but they have no natural food left ( )after the fire passes( ). The koala is a national symbol ( ) , so Frydenberg said it would be a focus of national government spending( ). He added that the full amount of the damage would not be known until the bushfires are out ( ) . Experts say the fires could continue burning for months. Threatened Species ( ) Commissioner ( 专 员 ) Sally Box said an estimated 30 percent of koala habitat in New South Wales state may have been lost. Koalas have heavy fur, and usually climb higher when they are in danger. That is not helpful in fast-moving bushfires. "②Everything that can be done to rescue and recover koala habitat will be done,"一、请根据上下文,在括号中填出相应语块的中文意思。二、赏析下面的句子。 ①This has been an ecological disaster, a disaster that is still unfolding.

②Everything that can be done to rescue and recover koala habitat will be done.

三、请把上面这篇文章划分出段落。

课外导读LA mourns Kobe Bryant, activist and icon: 'We didn't just lose a basketball

player'In Los Angeles, everyone is mourning Kobe Bryant in their own way.Within hours of his death on Sunday morning, his name was popping up on city

buses and commuter trains, in graffiti spray-painted on random walls, and in a thousand tributes left outside the downtown Staples Center, which witnessed the peak of his glory as one of basketball’s towering greats. City leaders, meanwhile, lit up public buildings and fountains in purple and gold, the colors of the Lakers, for whom

Bryant played all 20 of his professional seasons. As the days pass, it has become clear that this is no ordinary grief. Kobe, as

everyone knew him, was a man who touched an extraordinary number of lives in an extraordinary number of ways.

He was an advocate for victims of police violence, but he also donated money to a widows’ and children’s fund for cops killed in the line of duty. He was an African American role model in a city with a dwindling black population, but he was also adored by Latinos who appreciated his efforts to learn Spanish and called him “compa”, short for “compadre”, or friend.

The foundation he established with his wife, Vanessa, has promoted youth sports, of course — both soccer and basketball — and it has also worked to get LA’s soaring population of homeless young African Americans off the streets.“We didn’t just lose a basketball player. This was someone who was becoming a pillar of the community beyond athleticism,” said Isaac Bryan, who directs the Black Policy Project at the University of California, Los Angeles. “It’s hard to find things for black people in LA to look up to.”
