resan old maxim about University: grades, social life, sleep pick two. In Law school, if youk grades, you can forget about the other two. And youllstill fail anyway.

re was one time I solicited words of welcome for the Freshmen from my best of friends in school. Hereswhat they said:

agpakasaya na kayo habang pwede pa.itwhile you're ahead." Only the decided survives.

ag diet. Nakakataba ang law school #livingprooftenight studying = late night eatingn'tbother making friends. Malamang di niyo na rin sila makakasama next sem.

mpretty sure, next year, you will tell yourself, I should have started today..ually, one of the first things seniors tell the very gullible first years, is that :

YOUR LIFE AS YOU KNOW IT, IS OVERhe people who remain surprised by this: WELCOME TO LAW SCHOOL! Usually, one of the things seniors tell the very gullible first years, depending on how evil said seniors are, is thatr life as they know it is over. Well, that is possibly a form of hyperbole but there are reasons

y: law school is meant to train your mind, to teach you to see things differently. There aredings meant to expand your horizon and to teach you how to think(a bit) like a lawyer. Theh is that you will all be piled with readings and work until one day, amidst the floundering for

vival, you would realize that you have no life outside law school. If you are an optimisticson, you will endeavor to find one of your own. This goes on until you collapse from a lack ofp and acknowledge your attempts as ultimately futile.

wever, that is not always the case. Even while you are in law school, you can manage to getd grades, a social life and adequate sleep. While most are full-time law students, there are alsoents in the law school community who struggle to work 8 hours everyday but are still able toend classes by night. There are teachers, paralegals, businessmen, and others like me who work

t-time but still manage to perform well despite being burdened with a lot of readings.

nt. A new Year for New Lawspublic Act No. 10354 has got to be the most familiar to everyone,

me for the good and others for the wrong reasons. After numerousates, discussions and media coverage, itsfinally enacted into a law.entitled as The Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Healthof 2012 which comprehensively covers a multifaceted initiative

ards management for health and educational facilities byguarding and promoting the protection of individual reproductivets.

public Act No. 10353is more commonly known as the Anti-Enforcednvoluntary Disappearance Act of 2012. This Act is the consolidatedion of House Bill No. 98 and Senate Bill No. 2817 which have been

sed by the Legislative on October 16, 2012 in light of numerousasions of enforced disappearances and arbitrary detention. Because ofunexplained rampancy of these tragedies which still remain to beely dubious, the Government hopes that this law will provideicient protection and redress to those who have fallen victims tose atrocities.

d of course, having been approved as early as September 12, 2012 anding been suspended immediately right after is Republic Act No.5.It is no other than the CybercrimePrevention Act of 2012, whichtill currently under judicial and public scrutiny over its allegedidityas a law.

er highlights from the late months of 2012 to the early parts of 2013olve more politicalpronouncements. The FrameworkAgreementthe Bangsamorowas released on October 7, 2012 and subsequentlyed by the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation

nt on October 15, 2012, which aims to establish the Bangsamoro,ch is a new autonomous political entity superseding the Autonomousion of Muslim Mindanao. There are also Senate Resolution No. 931House Resolution No. 3004, published in the Official Gazette on

uary 23, 2013, which both discuss the Philippines move to file antration case against China over alleged violations on the Unitedions Convention on the Law of the Sea.

ate Bill No. 3384 or the SILENT MODE ACT which is "AN ACTOHIBITING THE USE OF CELLULAR OR MOBILE TELEPHONESO-WAY RADIOS AND OTHER AUDIO-VISUAL ELECTRONIC

VICES INSIDE MOVIE THEATERS AND OTHER SIMILAR ARENA"d on January 22, 2013 and introduced by Sen. Miriam Defensortiago.

d on January 14, 2013 by Jinggoy P. Ejercito-Estrada, Manny B. Villar,en B. Legarda, Pia S. Cayetano, Francis "Chiz" G. Escudero, Miriamensor Santiago, Franklin M. Drilon, Senate Bill No. 3382is known tos theANTI-PROSTITUTION ACT

onio Trillanes also filed on December 12, 2012 Senate Bill No. 3371ch is the "MAGNA CARTA FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITY".

hout any bias as to the how these laws may take into effect, or ifme pronouncements will ever become effective laws at all, the

sition from 2012 to 2013 truly elicits mixed images of how the Newr will roll in for the members of the legal profession and theippines, as a whole.
