• Its wide espousal among students,
Question
• What is the level of acceptance, adoption and adaptation among students in Assam?
• STUDY RESULTS: There’s a state of plateau.
Background
• Data collected from March 2013 to October 2014,
• Total no. of students covered is 2750,
• Response collected from 2500 students,
• H.S. and Bachelor level students
• Authorities: Teachers, Parents, Media Practitioners and Scholars.
Methodology
• Purposive sampling:– Homogenous,
– Typical.
• Survey:– Questionnaire,
– Interview & Opinion Poll.
• Observations.
Sampling and the Survey• Homogenous sampling was directed
towards the student groups,
• Typical sampling towards the authorities,
• Survey:– Questionnaire was used for students,
– Interviews & Opinion Polls were used for the authorities.
• Observations – Adoption level among the homogenous sample groups.

Bold Findings…
• Knowledge and usage of digital media among Assamese students is very primitive,
• Only 14.8% of the students have a clear concept of digital media,
• Only 10.2% of the students utilize digital media for their career, higher-studies and entrepreneurship,
• Only 16.6% visit their college or university websites,
• Only 30.5% students exactly know how to access internet and surf websites.
Conclusion
• College level students in Assam are not aware of the practical side of the digital media adoption,
• Most of them have mobile phones and Facebook installed into it, but are rarely using an active email ID,
• Very rarely access any website of academic or career importance.
Recommendation
• The current state of plateau can be broken by the:
– Formal training (83.3% authorities believe so),
– Syllabus inclusion (93.68%),
– Digital assignments (75.26%)
– University/UGC intervention (96.15%),
– Utilizing student community, NSS, NCC groups,
– Awareness sessions.
Scope of Further Studies…
• The level of acceptance and adoption among:– The students in higher studies,
– The students of all the 8 North-Eastern states.
• The level of adoption among the college authorities,
• The incorporation of digital media into syllabi and course materials by the Universities across India.
