The City of Ostrava – including me personally – is very proud that FIMBA has chosen us to host this unique event. We are a city with a rich industrial tradition, a vibrant city with huge potential for a positive future.The European Maxibasketball Championship is another in a series of prestigious international sporting events held as part of Ostrava’s European City of Sport 2014 project. It sits proudly alongside the Davis Cup and Fed Cup tennis tournaments, the Golden Spike athletics meeting, or the World Inline Cup. Your tournament may not be as internationally renowned as those, but it is absolutely unique in its own way. Few other sporting events enable such a wide range of age groups to compete, from such a large number of participating countries. International Maxibasketball is the second time in Check Republic. After Prague (2009) we are back in Ostrava. Serious sport and serious fun come together for the 8th Maxibasketball Championship being held in Ostrava. After Riga, Athens, Helsinki, Hamburg, Pesaro and Zagreb, beautiful Ostrava is the city since the year 2000 to host this important and great event. Up to 2000 competitors from around the Europe are gathered in Ostrava for an international celebration of “Sport for Life”, and to enjoy everything this sport city has to offer.

FIMBA (Europe) has made substantial progress during the last few years and keeps on developing. We organized the historic 1st March 2014, every FIMBA Europe representative was invited. The goal of the meeting was to get every country member to the one place focusing in the future planning of our movement; to get to know each other better and ventilate our wishes, hopes, ideas with each other; to give the feedback from the field and to see the complaints as possibilities to be

strong also in the coming years. 20 FIMBA Europe representatives were attended; the Conference was very successful with important conclusions of new FIMBA Europe development in the future.

Thanks to the presents and to those cannot participate but sent to the Conference the best wishes and support. We are more strong and unique.

Maxibasketball is a movement made by and for the people; maxibasketball is a sport and friendship, days of happiness and passion, enjoyment and memories, health and mature age, to win a victory over oneself. It is not Over-time it is Our-time, time of loving playing basketball. To be a part of this unforgettable experience is tremendous and unforgettable.

Dear fans of Maxibasketball!

Basketball came to Bohemia in 1897 and since that time, when Jaroslav Karásek, the teacher of physical education in Vysoké Mýto introduced it to the nation, has passed quite a long time. In 2005, at the 30th Women European Championship Czech, the national team won the gold medal and in 2010 as an organizing country of the World Championship in women basketball, Czech team won the silver medal.

We are meeting for the first time in Ostrava – city, where, although it does not seem, sport is imprinted into the hearts of many inhabitants. There is a good football and ice hockey played here, also marathon is run here and basketball looks promisingly as well. Ostrava´s team Nová huť is in the Czech extra league. Jan Veselý, who is the forward in NBA team - Denver Nuggets now, has grown up here, and also many other extra league basketball players.

I would like to thank FIMBA and personally the president Ruben Rodrigues Lamas for the decision of Ostrava as a city of European Championship 2014. Also I want to thank all the public authorities, organizing committee, all Ostrava´s veteran members, volunteers and referees for doing their best.

So, enjoy the Championship! Play fair! Enjoy the atmosphere of the unique city we are proud of!

And when there is not any match – set out to the streets of Ostrava. To the streets of the city, where sport and fair play (as you already know) has its place in hearts of all of us.

Vážení příznivci Maxibasketbalu!

Basketbal připutoval do Čech v roce 1897 a od dob, kdy jej v sokolovně ve Vysokém Mýtě představil národu učitel tělocviku Jaroslav Karásek, ušel velkou cestu. Na 30. Mistrovství Evropy v basketbale žen získaly české reprezentantky v roce 2005 zlato a v roce 2010, jako pořádající země Mistrovství světa v basketbalu žen vybojovaly Češky stříbro.

Setkáváme se poprvé v Ostravě – městě, kde i když se to nezdá, je sport zapsán v srdci nejednoho Ostravana. Hraje se zde skvělý fotbal i hokej, běží se tu maratón a s basketbalem to vypadá také slibně. Ostravský tým Nová huť je v české v extralize. Vyrostl zde Jan Veselý - nyní forward v týmu NBA - Denver Nuggets a mnoho dalších extraligových basketbalistů. Rád bych poděkoval FIMBě a osobně pak prezidentu Ruben Rodrigues Lamasovi za rozhodnutí uspořádat evropský šampionát v Ostravě. Také chci poděkovat všem zástupcům veřejné správy, organizačnímu výboru, všem ostravským basketbalovým veteránům, dobrovolníkům a rozhodčím za jejich práci, aby turnaj proběhl co nejlépe.

Užijte si turnaj! Hrajte fér! Nasávejte do sebe atmosféru jedinečného města na které jsme hrdi! A když zrovna nebude žádný zápas – vyražte do ulic Ostravy. Do ulic města, kde sport a fair play má (jak už víte) místo v srdci nás všech.

History of the basketball in Ostrava History of the basketball in Ostrava dates from the beginning of sporting organization NOVÁ HUŤ. It was in 1953 when two ostrava´s teams united and there was formed a team, which laid foundations to the growing fame of ostrava basketball and which fought its way to the 1st. Men´s League. Basketball club TJ NHKG Ostrava could pride themselves on belonging among the biggest clubs in the Czech Republic. There were more than 400 members mostly active players. Since 1953 its men´s team has been playing the 1st Czech league continuously. Along with them also the women´s team took part in the 1st league. Tradition of the high-quality basketball is from the early beginning based on the wide base of the youth teams, which, mostly in juniors categories set the tone of the national competitions. Former players can be seen during this 8th Fimba European Maxibasketball Championship Ostrava.

Historie basketbalu v OstravěHistorie basketbalu v Ostravě se datuje vznikem Tělovýchovné jednoty NOVÁ HUŤ. Ta se počítá od roku 1953, kdy se sloučily ostravské kluby košíkové a vytvořilo se družstvo, které položilo základy k vzrůstající slávě ostravského basketbalu a probojovalo se do I. ligy mužů.Basketbalový oddíl TJ NHKG Ostrava se mohl pochlubit tím, že patřil po mnoho let mezi největší v Československu. Měl více jak 400 členů, většinou hrajících. Jeho muži hrají od roku 1953 v I. lize nepřetržitě, tedy bez jediného sestupu (!) a po mnoho let spolu s nimi měly nejvyšší ligovou příslušnost i ženy.Tradice kvalitního basketbalu v Ostravě je od počátku jeho působení postavena na širokém zázemí mládežnických družstev, která zejména v kadetských a juniorských kategoriích udávají tón v republikových soutěžích.Odchovance tohoto oddílu můžete vidět i na letošním Mistrovství Evropy veteránů v Ostravě.

Basketball in the Czech Republic It is unbelievable, but basketball has been played in the Czech Republic since 1897, competitions started in 1928 and the first National Championship was in 1935. In the same year, the Czech Republic took part in the first European Championship and came third. The biggest development of the Czech basketball started after 1945, since then our teams can pride ourselves on title-holder in Men Europen Championship in 1980, silver medal from Women European Championship in 2003 and 2010. Our national team regularly participate in Olympic games and the World Championship. At the present, among the most successful Czech players belong two players who have played in famous NBA. As a first, it was Jiří Zídek jr. and as a second appeared in oversea Jiří Welsch. Now, there is Jan Veselý playing in NBA, former player of Ostrava team. Among the best Czech women player belongs Eva Horáková – the best European basketball player in 1996 and the first Czech woman in WNBA.

Basketbal v České republice Je neuvěřitelné, ale basketbal se hraje v České republice již od roku 1897, soutěže počínají rokem 1928 a první mistrovství ČSR proběhlo v roce 1935. V témže roce se naše republika zúčastnila i prvního mistrovství Evropy a skončila třetí.Největší rozvoj českého basketbalu nastal po roce 1945, od té doby se naše družstva mohou pyšnit titulem mistrů Evropy mužů v roce 1980, stříbrem z ME žen 2003 a 2010.Reprezentace se pravidelně účastní Olympijských her a Mistrovství světa. Mezi momentálně nejúspěšnější české hráče patří především dvojice hráčů, která si zahrála slavnou NBA. Jako prvnímu se to povedlo Jiřímu Zídkovi juniorovi a jako druhý se objevil v zámoří Jiří Welsch. V současnosti je v NBA odchovanec ostravského mládežnického basketbalu Jan Veselý. Mezi nejlepší české hráčky patří Eva Horáková – nejlepší basketbalistka Evropy roku 1996 a první Češka ve WNBA.

OSTRAVA- City, where even Forrest Gump would say: “You never know…”

Black. It was the most often title of Ostrava in time, when the coal was mining here. It’s finding the city immediately after made famous and got dirty at the same time. Motive of Ostrava you will find in pictures of Oskar Kokoshka and Jan Zrzavý. By Czech loved actor Hugo Haas played in the city theatre, later he broke through as a film director in Hollywood. Ostrava theater visited also world known painter František Kupka. His retrospection could saw his fans in famous Solomon R. Guggenheim museum in New Your.Theater in Ostrava visited several famous poets, for example Jaroslav Vrchlický, who translated Shakespeare work into Czech language. Shakespeare is after all played here up to now.It is great experience to see Shakespeare’s plays on newly renovated castle, no matter whether you are fun, hopeless romantic or you just want to make an impression on your romantic mood girl…

The most popular Czech humorist Zdeněk Jirotka was born here. His work was translated into several languages and somewhere in heavens his literature example Pelham Gernville Wodehous is surely proud of. As a small boy Karel Reisz was running here, later one of the founders of movement “Free Cinema” – film director that engaged in Hollywood young Meryl Streep, and his films “Saturday Night and Sunday Morning” or “ TheFrench Lieutenant´s Woman” know viewers on all the world.

Well known composer Leoš Janaček pass through Ostrava as well as Igor Stravinskij, Sergej Prokofjev, Philip Glass or singer Ema Destinová, who performs one´s time with Enrico Caruso.

And because Ostrava get definitely rid off the title „black“ on music festival „Colours of Ostrava“ shine such a variety of stars, as Robert Plant or Sinead O´Connor, that is in fact no time to name them all.

Hoarse voice of Joe Cocker, the flute of band Jethro Tull sund here, Bob Dylan sang here and famous Aerosmith aswell. And several years ago even legendary Animals…

There are well known art works to be seen in Ostrava galleries there, a “Judita” of Gustav Klimt is owned by one of them.

In Ostrava sports grounds run around legends. Several times the play about Davis cup took place here. In exhibition shined here Bjorn Borg and during ice hockey match Jaromir Jágr hopelessly sold out the hall. The Czech Austrian football star Josef „Pepi“ Bican played here, and by the way, the planet no.10634 „Pepibican“ is named after him.There are two universities in Ostrava and diploma from one of them (believe or not) are valid in the whole world.

Maybe for someone is Ostrava still black, possibly for others is still Cinderella from fairy tale. Anyway we all know that with Cinderella it finally turn out well. :)

From time to time when I saw in night tram foreign students wild with joy, I miss miners I used to meet when I was young, but world goes simply ahead.Ostrava is today one of the most cosmopolitan cities in this country. Go on Friday night through Stodolní ulice and you will hear so many languages that your head will be spinning.

Once I met in Asia a boy similar to genius boy Forrest Gump.

OSTRAVA- město, kde by i Forrest Gump řekl: „Nikdy nevíš …“

Černá. To bylo kdysi nejčastější přízvisko Ostravy v době, kdy se zde dobývalo uhlí. Jeho nález město vzápětí proslavil i ušpinil. Ale jen zdánlivě. Ve skutečnosti tudy od pradávna vedly obchodní stezky. V jejím okolí se našla i stará římská mince. A jistě ne jedna. Snad proto, že tudy během věků prošla řada lidí „z masa a kostí“. A historie tu napsala nejeden příběh …

Na chvíli zde přistál i papež Jan Pavel II., nyní již svatý a jistě tudy prošel nejeden světák, dobrodruh a snad i další budoucí světec. Ostravský motiv naleznete na obraze Oskara Kokoshky i Jana Zrzavého. Na divadelních prknech zde působil Hugo Haas, Čechy milovaný herec a režisér, který se později prosadil i v Holywoodu. Do ostravského divadla zavítal také světoznámý malíř Fratišek Kupka jehož retrospektivu mohli před lety vidět umělcovi fanoušci i ve slavném „Muzeu Solomona R. Guggenheima“ v New Yorku. Do ostravského divadla přišla i řada slavných básníků, jako třeba Jaroslav Vrchlický, který českému národu průkopnicky přeložil Shakespeara. Ten se tu v koneckonců hraje dodnes. Vidět Shakespearovy hry na místním nově zrekonstruovaném hradě je fakticky zážitek, ať už jste dramatikův fanoušek, beznadějný romantik, nebo jenom chcete udělat dojem na své romanticky naladěné děvče …

Narodil se tu spisovatel a snad nejoblíbenější český humorista Zdeněk Jirotka, jehož dílo bylo přeloženo do několika jazyků a na kterého je někde v oblacích jeho literární vzor Pelham Gernville Wodehouse jistě neskonale hrdý. Jako malý capart se v ulicích Ostravy proháněl Karel Reisz, jeden z pozdějších zakladatelů hnutí „Free Cinema“ - režisér, který v Holywoodu angažoval i mladou Meryl Streep, jehož filmy „V sobotu večer a v neděli ráno“ či „Francouzova milenka“ znají diváci po celém světě. Ostravou prošel světoznámý skladatel Leoš Janáček, ale také Igor Stravinskij, Sergej Prokofjev, Philip Glass či pěvkyně Ema Destinová, která svého času vystupovala i s Enricem Carusem.

A protože se už snad Ostrava definitivně zbavila nálepky “černá”, na hudebním festivalu „Colours of Ostrava“ zazářila taková plejáda hvězd, včetně Roberta Planta či Sinead O´ Connor, že fakticky není čas je všechny vyjmenovat.

Ostravou se nesl chraplavý hlas Joea Cockera, zněla tu flétna kapely Jethro Tull, zpíval zde Bob Dylan i slavní Aerosmith. No a před pár lety dokonce (považte) i legendární Animals …

V ostravských galeriích jsou k vidění světoznámá díla a „Juditu“ Gustava Klimta dokonce jedna galerie vlastní.

Na ostravských sportovištích se proháněly legendy. Několikrát se tu hrálo o „Davis Cup“. V exhibici tu zazářil Björn Borg a při hokejovém utkání beznadějně „vyprodal“ halu Jaromír Jágr. Působila tu i česko-rakouské fotbalové hvězda Josef „Pepi“ Bican, po němž je mimochodem pojmenována i planeta č. 10634 „Pepibican“ ...

V Ostravě jsou dvě univerzity a diplomy jedné z nich mají (věřte nevěřte) platnost v celém světe …

Možná je pro někoho Ostrava stále černá, možná je pro někoho stále Popelka z pohádky. Všichni ale víme, že to s Popelkou nakonec dopadlo fakticky dobře :-) Občas když vidím v noční tramvaji rozdováděné zahraniční studenty, chybí mi horníci, které jsem potkával v dětství, ale svět jde zkrátka dál. Ostrava je dnes jedním z nejkosmopolitnějších měst v naší zemi. Projděte si v pátek večer Stodolní ulici a uslyšíte tolik jazyků, že se vám z toho doslova zatočí hlava …

Jednou jsem v Asii potkal kluka podobného na geniálního dítěte štěstěny Forresta Gumpa.

DOLNÍ OBLAST VÍTKOVICE

Dolni Vítkovice is unique site in the city center of Ostrava. From 1828 to 1998 there was mined coal and produced coke and pig iron. Today the industrial complex has changed into a unique cultural and educational center. Hundreds of visitors from residents of Ostrava to tourists from all over the world were impressed by this unusual place.

The history of this area goes back to 1828 when founder and investor Archduke and Archbishop Rudolph of Habsburg signed the deed of foundation. Rudolph Ironworks were after his death managed by family of Rothschilds. In the first part of the 19th century there was created a unique complex, not to be found anywhere else in Europe containing all industrial production from coal mining through a treatment and production of coke to the production of pig iron. However in 1998 the ironworks were closed until 2012. When it was reopened again it was in transformed form of cultural, social and educational center. All historically significant buildings have been preserved. Now they serve for other purposes than they used to serve.

The Blast Furnace No. 1 was transformed into the educational tour with experience of unique ride in the skip hoist and breathtaking view of Ostrava from a height of almost 70 meters. You can also visit hot blast furnance interior where temperature could reach up to 2000 ° C in the past. Visitors walk on the same route which was used to transport raw

materials, so they can easily learn about technology for the production of pig iron.

The building of gasholder, where previously was storage for blast furnace gas, is multifunctional center today, that can house up to 2000 guests. It is called Gong. It’s used for international conferences, congresses and business workshops. During the day, Gong also serves educational purposes for students of Ostrava universities. In the evening it turns into a cultural center. It hosts concerts Philharmonic and major social events. The creator of this unique object is important Czech architect Josef Pleskot.

In the former VI. Energy Center around the original 900-tonne blowers is Small World of Technology called U6. This world includes more than 100 interactive exhibits that explain playful and fun science and technology to children and adults. You can try to make a chess piece in lathe, roll the steel sheet, build an iron bridge or a fly with simulator. Main tour guide in the Small World of Technology is a writer Jules Verne, who was born in the same year as Vitkovice in 1828. In september 2014 will be opened a bigger brother of U6 - Huge Science and Technology Center. It will reveal the secrets of modern technologies.

Nearby Dolní Vítkovice is Landek Park, which offers a lot of sport activities and also the largest mining exhibition in the Czech Republic. In the mining museum visitors can go down into the shaft with original cage elevator and get a ride with original mining train. You can also visit the classic chain locker rooms, an exhibition of mining rescue, or enjoy the traditional mining gastronomical specialties.

All objects of Dolní Vítkovice are unique. Nowhere else in the world you can find the place. The purely industrial area became a cultural center now. The traditional festivals of Ostrava were moved here. The most famous ones are festival of electronic music Beats for Love and the largest Czech multi-genre festival Colours of Ostrava which attracted more than 33,000 people last year.

DOLNÍ OBLAST VÍTKOVICE

Dolní Vítkovice jsou světově unikátní areál v centru Ostravy. Od roku 1828 až do roku 1998 se v tomto areálu těžilo černé uhlí, vyráběl koks a surové železo. Dnes se tento ryze industriální komplex změnil na kulturní a vzdělávací centrum, kam denně míří stovky návštěvníků z řad ostravských obyvatel i turistů ve všech koutů světa.

Historie tohoto areálu sahá až do roku 1828, kdy byla podepsána zakládací listina olomouckým arcibiskupem Rudolfem Janem Habsburským. Tehdejší Rudolfova huť byla po smrti arcibiskupa spravována rodinou Rothschldů. V první polovině 19. století zde vznik unikátní a v Evropě ojedinělý areál obsahující všechny tři provozy začínající těžbou uhlí a zpracování koksu až po finální výrobu surového železa. V roce 1998 se však tento areál uzavřel až do roku 2012 kdy byl opět zpřístupněn lidem ve své transformované podobě, kulturního a vzdělávacího centra. Všechny historicky významné objekty zůstaly zachovány, ale slouží k jiným účelům než jak tomu bylo zvykem v minulosti.

Z vysoké pece č.1 je naučná trasa, v rámci které zažijete jízdu unikátním skipovým výtahem, adrenalínový pohled na Ostravu z výšky téměř 70 metrů, a také uvidíte jedinečné nitro vysoké pece, kde v minulosti teplota dosahovala až 2000°C. Návštěvníci se na vysoké peci pohybují ve směru toku materiálu, a dozvídají se o historii i technickém procesu výroby surového železa.

Budova bývalého plynojemu, kde se dříve uskladňoval vysokopecní plyn, dnes slouží jako multifunkční aula, která pojme až 2000 návštěvníků a nese název Gong. Pořádají se zde mezinárodní konference, kongresy i pracovní workshopy. Přes den Gong slouží také k výuce studentů ostravských univerzit a k večeru se mění na kulturní centrum. Pořádají se zde koncerty filharmonie a významné společenské akce. Tvůrcem tohoto jedinečného objektu je významný český architekt Josef Pleskot.

V bývalé 6. energetické ústředně, okolo původních devíti set tunových dmýchadel vyrostl Malý svět techniky U6. Tento svět zahrnuje více než sto interaktivních exponátů, které hravou a zábavnou formou vysvětlují vědu a techniku dětem i dospělým. Můžete si zde na soustruhu vyrobit šachovou figurku, vyválcovat plech, postavit most nebo vyzkoušet letecký simulátor. Průvodcem v Malém světě techniky je spisovatel Jules Verne, který se stejně jako Vítkovice narodil v roce 1828. V průběhu letošního roku se Malému světu techniky otevře jeho vetší bratříček Velký svět techniky neboli Sience and Technology Center, který odhalí tajemství moderních technologií.

Nedaleko Dolní oblasti Vítkovic je také Landek Park, který nabízí bohaté sportovní vyžití a také největší expozici hornictví v Česku. V rámci hornického muzea sfáráte do dolu těžní klecí a po dole se projedete původním důlním vlakem. Můžete také navštívit klasické řetízkové šatny, expozici báňského záchranářství, nebo si pochutnat na tradičních hornických specialitách.

Všechny objekty zpřístupněné v rámci Dolní oblasti Vítkovic jsou světové unikáty, a nikde jinde na světě nenajdete stejné ani podobné. V Ostravě se podařilo uvést do provozu již dávno vyhaslé a mnohdy zrezivělé stavby, kterým dnes opět v žilách proudí život. Z kdysi čistě průmyslového areálu je dnes kulturní centrum města. Přesouvá se zde většina tradičních ostravských festivalů, za které můžeme jmenovat festival elektronické hudby Beats for Love nebo největší český multižánrový festival Colours of Ostrava, jehož loňský ročník navštívilo více než 33 tisíc lidí.

Jan Veselý belongs to the most successful basketball players of all time. He was born on April 24th ,1990. He is 213 cm tall and his weight is 110kg. He plays as a wing in Denver Nuggets. His speciality is slum dunk. Jan Veselý started with basketball at the age of 12 in his hometown Příbor, from where he moved to the team BK Snakes Ostrava. At his very beginning there was MSc Dušan Hrdlička. After his successful performance in the European Championship in 2006 he joined Slovan Ljubljana. In 2007 he joined Slovenian club Geoplin Slovan and in 2008 he moved to Partizan Bělehrad. There he became a support to his team and favourite of the Serbian fans. In 2010 Jan Veselý was voted the best 21 year European player. In 2011 he was drafted to NBA by Washington Wizards. On February 20th, 2014 he was traded to the Denver Nuggets.

Jan Veselý patří mezi nejúspěšnější české basketbalisty všech dob. Narozen 24. dubna 1990, 213 cm vysoký a váží 110 kg. Nastupuje na pozici křídla v týmu Denver Nuggets. Jeho specialitou jsou tvrdé závěsy na koš.S basketbalem Jan Veselý začal ve dvanácti letech v rodném Příboře, ze kterého přestoupil do ostravského BK Snakes Ostrava. U jeho trenérských začátků stál Mgr. Dušan Hrdlička. Po úspěšném účinkování na ME v roce 2006 přestoupil Jan Veselý do Slovanu Ljubljana. V roce 2007 přestoupil do slovinského klubu Geoplin Slovan a v roce 2008 byl vyměněn do srbského Partizanu Bělehrad. Zde se stal oporou týmu a oblíbencem srbských fanoušků. V roce 2010 byl Jan Veselý zvolen nejlepším hráčem Evropy do 21 let. V roce 2011 byl draftován do NBA týmem Washington Wizards. 20. února 2014 byl vyměněn do týmu Denver Nuggets, který jej získal výměnou za zkušeného rozehrávače Andrého Millera, kde působí i nyní.

Invitation of the Fimba European Maxibasketball Championship Ostrava 2014 organizers for the Opening Ceremony was accepted by Kamil Novák. Native of Ostrava, former national team member and present general secretary of FIBA Europe. Position of the general secretary FIBA Europe is one of the most important managerial posts in European basketball. Kamil Novák was born 45 years ago in Ostrava. During his basketball career he wore the jersey of the local Nová Huť. After that he directed abroad which became his destiny. Before he settled down in Germany, he tried basketball in Luxembur (Amicale Steinsel) and Austria (Chin Min Dragons UBC St. Poelten). After that his steps led to Germany. As a player he first introduced himself in Dragons Rhoendorf and MTV Kronberg and later he started his managerial career. In 2005/2006 he became the sport director of Frankfurt basketball club Deutche Bank Skyliners.

Pozvání organizátorů Mistrovství Evropy v basketbale veteránů přijal na slavnostní zahájení Kamil Novák. Rodák z Ostravy, bývalý český reprezentant a nyní generální sekretář mezinárodní basketbalové organizace FIBA Europe.Funkce generálního sekretáře FIBA Europe je jednou z

nejdůležitějších manažerských pozic v evropském basketbalu.Kamil Novák se narodil před 45 lety v Ostravě. V basketbalové kariéře také oblékl dres místní Nové Huti. Poté zamířil do zahraničí, které se stalo jeho osudem. Než zakotvil v Německu, vyzkoušel si basketbal v Lucembursku (Amicale Steinsel) a Rakousku (Chin Min Dragons UBC St. Poelten). Pak už jeho kroky vedly do Německa. Nejprve se jako hráč představil v Dragons Rhoendorf a MTV Kronberg, aby se později mohl vydat na manažerskou dráhu. V sezóně 2005/2006 se stal sportovním ředitelem frankfurtského basketbalového klubu Deutsche Bank Skyliners.

The age is no handicap. Motto of the championship

The organization committee has decided to develop this motto in another activity which would show, that all handicaps can be overcome. As the oldest players can show an excellent performance even the ostrava´s pupils could succeed. At the very beginning, there was a competition, we can call it a tournament, which was announced by a FIMBA Organization Committee. There were registered 16 schools, specialised in a teaching of disabled children. The task was the same for all – they got material and the aim was to make a statuette, which would relate to the present championship. Unfortunately, there doesn´t exist any apropriate evaluation, and therefore choosing the best „sculptor“ was not easy. In the end, commission compounded of the organizers and town representatives, came to the conclusion – the winner became the primary school Čkalovova with its statuette of basketball player at the basket. Not only 10.000 Czech crowns and all the material for production was the reward, but mainly the fact, that their statuettes will find their owners in all the Europe, because they will be the prices for the best players. Moreover, all the participants can buy them during the whole tournament.

Organizační výbor se rozhodl tuto myšlenku rozvinout i v další aktivitě, která by ukázala, že všechny handicapy se dají překonávat. Tak jako dokážou předvést mistrovské výkony nejstarší hráči basketbalu, podařilo se to i žákům ostravských škol.

Na začátku byla soutěž, můžeme ji nazvat i turnajem, který vypsal organizační výbor Mistrovství Evropy v basketbale veteránů. Přihlásilo se 16 škol, které se specializují na výuku postižených dětí. Podmínky měli všichni stejné – dostali materiál k výrobě a cílem bylo vyrobit sošku, která by se vztahovala k samotnému letošnímu šampionátu.

Bohužel v takové soutěži neexistují počty bodů za vhozený koš a proto vybrat toho nejlepšího nebylo jednoduché.

Nakonec se komise složená z organizátorů a zástupců města shodla na vítězi – Základní škole Čkalovova - s keramickou soškou znázorňující basketbalistu při koši. Odměnou pro vítěze nebylo jen 10 000,- Kč a veškerý materiál k výrobě, ale hlavně skutečnost, že sošky najdou své majitele v celé Evropě, protože budou použity jako ceny pro nejlepší. Zároveň si je mohou zakoupit všichni účastníci po dobu celého šampionátu.


FIMBA RULESAll teams need the endorsement of the national FIMBA Representative in order to make the registration.

PLAYERSPlayers have to be in the age of his/her category or reach it during the year of the tournament. Player cannot play in any higher age category. There will not be allowed that any player plays simultaneously in two categories at the same championship. Players enabled to play are those: a) of appropriate age or whose birthday takes place within the current calendar year, b) proving their age previous to the start of the Championship, c) registered in the Team Roster of their team previous to the start of the tournament, d) who have paid their registration fee, e) who have presented his/her certificate of physical aptitude and f) who have signed a waiver of responsibilities. During the registration the team delegate shall submit the I.D. of all the players to the Organizing Committee, each certificate of physical aptitude and the released waivers signed by each participant. The registration cards will be given when these terms are fulfilled. The roster shall not be modified or enlarged in any way after the start of the tournament.

PLAYING JERSEYSAt the time of registration, each team delegate shall inform the colors of the two sets of the mandatory play jerseys, one light and one dark. The delegate shall inform to the score table the roster of the 12 players and jersey numbers thirty minutes before each game. The team on the left side of the schedule shall use light jerseys. The team on the right side of the schedule shall use dark jerseys. Jerseys may show the team country name, inscriptions and/or advertising. There will not be allowed discriminator images or inscriptions morally unaccepted. All the jerseys shall have in any front angle the FIMBA logo. (It is available on the website).

GAMESAll the games shall have the following score: a) Two points (2): For a win; b) One point (l): For a loss; Zero (0): For the team who fails to attend the game on the scheduled time and In the case of suspension of a game due to any reason once started or prior its start, it shall not be rescheduled, while the Disciplinary Board shall decide the corresponding sanctions and their result. Once the tournament starts and with the game schedule already settled, there shall not be any changes in dates or games, nor any reschedule for any reason. Every game played shall not be played again for any reason, abiding by the Disciplinary Board decision as regards sanctions and results. All scheduled games shall be played. In the event of a tie between two, three or more teams, the standings shall be defined as follows: Between two teams, the winner of the game qualifies, Among three or more teams, the Olympic procedure will be applied: a) Winners among themselves, b) If still remains, goals difference (for and against) among them, c) If still remains, the one who had achieved more goals within the qualification zone.


PLAYING RULES Any playing rule not expressly modified herein, shall be governed by the regulations and general rules approved by F.I.B.A. Maxibasketball games shall be played in two (2) halves of 20 minutes each, divided into four (4) quarters of 10 minutes each. There shall be an obligatory 2-minute rest between the first and the second quarter, and between the third and the fourth quarter. There shall be an obligatory 10-minute rest between the first and the second half, i.e. between the second and the third quarter. The first quarter begins with a jump ball between both teams at the court centre circle. The rest of the quarters follow the rule of the alternate ball. Each team may request three time outs during the first and second half with a maximum of two per quarter. Each over time shall have one time out per team. A four fouls accumulation by team and per quarter will determine at the fifth foul the sanction of two free throwing by the fouled player. The accumulation of four fouls per quarter shall be informed by the score table in a visible way. All the quarters begin without accumulation of team fouls. At the categories M60 and over and F50 and over the 24-second possession by team will start when passing the middle court. There will be 10-seconds for passing the middle court controled by the referees. There will be four time outs per half period with the right to ask only two per quarter. The men 75+ category will play without stopping the clock except in the last two minutes of each quarter, during the fouls shoots and during the time outs. There won´t be any limit for passing the middle court. When passing the middle court will start the 24-seconds ball possession.

SUSPENSION AND EJECTIONAny player, coach or assistant, who is duly notified, ejected, disqualified or removed from a match, shall automatically accomplish with his/her suspension for one match. Any aggression will be forwarded with the ejection from the championship. A player punished in the game with a second technical foul will be disqualified from the game.The automatic suspension because a desqualification may be redimed by fine only one time at the championship.

MEDALSNo country may be worthy for both 1st and 2nd place awards in the same category. In the event more than one team of the same country plays in the same age category, they shall play amongst them until their elimination, so only one team qualifies for semifinals. In case than more of two teams of the same country could goes to the semifinals; the timetable should anticipate the mandatory elimination among them. There will be awarded with medals the fourth first places.

HRÁČIV týmu dané věkové kategorie může startovat hráč/ka, který již dosáhl věku označeného v názvu katego-rie, nebo hráč/ka, který tohoto věku dosáhne v průběhu roku. Hráč/ka nemůže hrát ve vyšší věkové kate-gorii. Hráč/ka nesmí startovat ve dvou a více kategoriích na jednom šampionátu.Hráčům/čkám je povoleno se zúčastnit šampionátu za splnění následujících podmínek: a) pokud dosáhli vhodného věku nebo jej dosáhnou v průběhu kalendářního roku; b) účasti na jiných šampionátech, kde již jejich věk byl prokázán; c) registrace na soupisce (Team Ros-ter) svého týmu v předchozím šampionátu; d) zaplacení registračního poplatku; e) uvedením potvrzení o fyzickém způsobilosti a f) podepsání vzdání se práva k budoucím nárokům vzniklých z titulu odpovědnosti pořadatele (Waiver).Při registraci týmu delegát předloží identifikační průkazy, osvědčení o fyzické způsobilost a podepsání vzdání se práva k budoucím nárokům vzniklých z titulu odpovědnosti pořadatele (Waiver) všech zúčast-něných hráčů organizačnímu výboru. Na základě splnění podmínek účasti obdrží každý hráč registrační kartu. Seznam hráčů (Team Roster) nesmí být změněn nebo rozšířen o další hráče/čky po začátku turnaje.

HRACÍ dresyPři registraci musí každý zástupce oznámit barvy dvou sad hracích dresů, jednu světlou a jednu tmavou. Třicet minut před každým zápasem musí zástupce týmu předložit soupisku12 hráčů a čísla dresů.Tým na levé straně rozpisu zápasu používá světlé dresy, tým na pravé straně používá tmavé dresy.Na dresech by měly být uvedeny tyto popisy: název týmu a země, může a nemusí být reklama. Na dresech se nesmí objevit diskriminující nebo morálně nepřijatelné nápisy a obrázky. Všechny dresy mají mít na přední straně logo Fimba. (Je k dispozici na webových stránkách)

HRAVšechny zápasy musí mít následující výsledky: a) dva body (2): za vítězství; b) jeden bod (l): za prohru; nula (0): pro tým, který do zápasu nenastoupil v plánovaném čase. V případě přerušení hry z jakéhokoliv důvodu, po začátku nebo před začátkem, může být zápas přeložen až po rozhodnutí disciplinární komise, která určí odpovídající sankce atd. Jakmile je turnaje započat a dán rozpis zápasů, nejsou v časovém harmonogramu povoleny změny z jakéhokoliv důvodu.K opakování zápasu může dojít až po rozhodnutí disciplinární komise.Všechny naplánované zápasy se odehrají dle rozvrhu.V případě nerozhodného výsledku mezi dvěma, třemi nebo více týmy se pořadí určí takto: mezi dvěma týmy - vítěz vzájemného zápasu; mezi třemi nebo více týmů, bude použité olympijské pravidlo: a) vítězové mezi sebou, b) je-li stále stav nerozhodný – pořadí se určí na základě rozdílů bodů, c) pokud je neustále stav nerozhodný – rozhodne počet bodů v kvalifikaci


PRAVIDLA HRY

Pravidla, které nejsou výslovně upravené, se řídí předpisy a obecnými pravidly schválenými basketbalovou federací FIBA. Maxibasketball se hraje na dvě (2) poloviny, z nichž každá má 20 minut a je rozdělena do čtyř (4) čtvrtin po 10 minutách.Mezi první a druhou čtvrtinou a mezi třetí a čtvrtou čtvrtinou je 2 minutová přestávka, mezi první a druhou polovinou je přestávka 10 minut.První čtvrtina začíná rozskokem mezi oběma týmy ve středu hřiště. Další čtvrtiny dodržují pravidlo alterna-tivního držení míče.Každý tým může v průběhu prvního a druhého poločasu požádat o tři oddechové časy, maximálně však dva za jednu čtvrtinu.V každém prodloužení má každé družstvo jeden oddechový čas. Po každém čtvrtém faulu družstva v každé čtvrtině, bude pátý faul trestán dvěma trestnými hody, provedenými faulovaným hráčem. Dosažení čtyř faulů družstva bude zřetelně označeno u zapisovatelského stolku. Všechny kategorie M60+ a F50+ budou mít měřeno 24s po přesunu na přední polovinu hřiště. Hráči těch-to kategorií mají 10s na přesun do přední části hřiště (odpočítáváno rozhodčími). Tyto kategorie mají také nárok na 2 oddechové časy v každém čtvrtině (dohromady 4 oddechové časy za poločas).Muži kategorie 75+ budou hrát na hrubý čas kromě posledních dvou minut v každé čtvrtině, střelbě trest-ných hodů a během oddechových časů. Není zde žádný limit pro přechod na přední polovinu hřiště. Po přechodu na přední část hřiště začíná měření 24s.

VYLOUČENÍ A VYKÁZÁNÍKaždý hráč, trenér nebo asistent, který je vyloučen z utkání, nesmí nastoupit v dalším (následujícím) zápa-se. Jakékoliv agresivní chování bude potrestáno vyloučením z šampionátu.Hráč potrestán druhým technickým faulem v jednom utkání, bude vyloučen až do konce tohoto utkání.Automatické vyloučení kvůli diskvalifikaci může být pozastaveno po zaplacení pokuty ale pouze jednou v průběhu šampionátu.

MEDAILEPrvní a druhé místo nemohou obsadit týmy z jedné země ve stejné kategorii. V případě, že z jednoho státu se v jedné kategorii zúčastní více družstev, budou hrát proti sobě do vyřazení jednoho z nich, takže do se-mifinále se kvalifikuje pouze jeden tým. V případě že více než dva týmy jedné země by mohly postoupit do semifinále , hrací plán by měl předvídat povinné vyřazení mezi těmito týmy. Medaile obdrží i tým na čtvrtém místě.

The Health Benefits of Sport and Physical ActivityAlthough research interest on physical activity and health dates back to the 1950s, the breakthrough in the scientific evidence on health benefits of physical activity largely took place during the 1980s and 1990s. There is an overwhelming amount of scientific evidence on the positive effects of sport and physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle. The positive, direct effects of engaging in regular physical activity are particularly apparent in the prevention of several chronic diseases, including: cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, obesity, depression and osteoporosis.

The Report from the United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force on Sport for Development and Peace states that young people can benefit from physical activity as it contributes to developing healthy bones, efficient heart and lung function as well as improved motor skills and cognitive function. Physical activity can help to prevent hip fractures among women and reduce the effects of osteoporosis. Remaining physically active can enhance functional capacity among older people, and can help to maintain quality of life and independence.

Physical activity and psychosocial health “One in four patients visiting a health service has at least one mental, neurological or behavioural disorder, but most of these disorders are neither diagnosed nor treated”. A number of studies have shown that exercise may play a therapeutic role in addressing a number of psychological disorders. Studies also show that exercise has a positive influence on depression. Physical self-worth and physical self-perception, including body image, has been linked to improved self-esteem. The evidence relating to health benefits of physical activity predominantly focuses on intra-personal factors such as physiological, cognitive and affective benefits, however, that does not exclude the social and inter-personal benefits of sport and physical activity which can also produce positive health effects in individuals and communities.

Sport and Physical Activity as part of a Healthy LifestyleA number of factors influence the way in which sport and physical activity impacts on health in different populations. Sport and physical activity in itself may not directly lead to benefits but, in combination with other factors, can promote healthy lifestyles. There is evidence to suggest that changes in the environment can have a significant impact on opportunities for participation and in addition, the conditions under which the activity is taking place can heavily impact on health outcomes. Elements that may be determinants on health include nutrition, intensity and type of physical activity, appropriate footwear and clothing, climate, injury, stress levels and sleep patterns.

Sport and physical activity can make a substantial contribution to the well-being of people in developing countries. Exercise, physical activity and sport have long been used in the treatment and rehabilitation of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Physical activity for individuals is a strong means for the prevention of diseases and for nations is a cost-effective method to improve public health across populations.

In 2011 in Natal, Brazil, another category was included: the most participating delegation at the Opening Celebration.
