Burro population management BLM encouraging burro adoptionELIZABETH MEDORA

STAFFNORTH VALLEY ndash Itrsquos

said that burros can find their way home But what happens when their home is getting too small for their herd The burros of the Lake Pleasant herd are a special part of the local wildlife and many residents enjoy seeing them

However the burros are facing hazards because their numbers have exponentially increased in past years leading the burros out of their safe habitat into possible dangers like ending up in traffic The growing burro population also damages the habitat of native animals causing them to be displaced from their homes

Arizona burro populationArizona Game and Fish has

contacted the Arizona Bureau of Land Management regarding burro overpopulation the BLM manages some of Arizonarsquos wild horses and burros under the Wild Horse and Burro Act of 1971 The BLM is considering options for managing the population of burros relocation is one option Burro adoption is another option ndash the BLM encourages residents with adequate resources to adopt burros and wild horses

ldquoItrsquos exciting to see the burros in the wildrdquo Dennis Godfrey Arizona BLM spokesman said ldquoI love seeing them out there Many people do But

you see them on the highways or automobiles hitting them ndash thatrsquos a problemrdquo

Nathan Gonzalez Arizona Game and Fish Department Public Information Officer noted ldquoUnder the Wild Horse and Burro Act of 1971 the state should have no more than 1316 burros within its borders Yet surveys estimate the population at 4411 ndash more than 235 percent above appropriate management levels developed and administered by the BLM as directed by Congress through the actrdquo

YCSO searching for suspect who robbed BCC business

BLACK CANYON CITY ndash The Yavapai County Sheriff rsquos Office is searching for the man (pictured right from a surveillance camera photo) who robbed the Family Dollar store in Black Canyon City on Aug 2

Since the first report of the robbery YCSO has received multiple leads on the suspectrsquos identity YCSO is still seeking further information as they continue the investigation into the case A $1000 reward is available for information leading to an arrest

YCSO detailed the robbery in an Aug 3 release asking for anyone with information to come forward

ldquoJust before 9 pm (on Aug 2) the lone suspect entered the

Family Dollar store and asked for help finding a can of WD-40rdquo the release stated ldquoOnce at the counter the suspect brandished a handgun and pointed it directly towards one of the two clerks in the store and demanded money The clerks complied by placing currency from the register on the counter which was then gathered up by the suspect Before leaving the

Carefree Town Council votes to purchase new council chambers

CAREFREE ndash The Carefree Town Council unanimously approved the $407400 purchase of a two-story 3750 square-foot building during its regular council meeting last month on Aug 17 for the purpose of permanently relocating the council chambers sometime next year

The newly purchased building on 33 Easy Street will be the future location of the town council meetings and house administrative offices as well Carefree will close the loan on Sept 11 with the building appearing near new and in good repair according to the recent building inspection

suspect fired a round from the handgun into the wall while standing in close proximity to the clerks intending to intimidate them The suspect then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash The clerks did not see or hear a vehicle The suspect vehicle description came from a witness who had exited the store just prior to the robbery and saw the suspicious SUV in the Family Dollar store parking lotrdquo

The robbery suspect is described as male likely Caucasian in his early 20s weighing 155-170 pounds height approximately 5rsquo08rdquo to 5rsquo 10rdquo At the time of the robbery he was wearing a

grey sweat shirt possibly inside out black short pants and a black cap with a grey front panel displaying a logo and a lsquoStarterrsquo brand logo on the caprsquos bill The possible vehicle of the suspect is a late model SUV described as burnt orangemetallic red in color

Hair salon now reopened after May car accident

CAREFREE ndash Salon owner Helen was working in her salon last May when a car jumped the curb and crashed through the front window narrowly missing hitting her Her salon Helenrsquos Hair Design was closed for about two months for repairs after the accident Helenrsquos salon has now reopened

Witnesses reported that the vehicle that hit the salon crashed through the front window and door Accident photos show the car parked in the salon alongside the salon sinks Details on what caused the accident are not currently available

Currently the town leases its council chambers which is located in the building at 8 Sundial Circle but the lease expires in July 2016 With last yearrsquos court consolidation the Carefree court was relocated to Cave Creek and now the town is only utilizing half of the space it leases

Mayor Peterson formed a committee with the purpose of analyzing the cost benefits

of purchasing a building for the council chambers instead of leasing and exploring the options available on the real estate market He credited Councilman Mike Farrar for ldquoleading the chargerdquo on finding the new location

ldquoThe timing couldnrsquot be betterrdquo said Councilman Mike Farrar about finding the new building on Easy Street

With the building inspection complete and the loan set to close soon Carefree can expect to move into its newly remodeled council chambers by the time its lease expires in July 2016

wondering how your official ldquoDay of Restrdquohellipotherwise called Labor Day tuned out I love that holiday Originated over one hundred years ago it is one of the few national holidays that was created for no man war or religion but for the common working stiff ndash you and me It marks the end of summer one more chance to hop in the car and get out of town for three days or simply lounge around in the notion that we work hard and deserve an extra day off

My Labor Day sort of went like this I think I will do nothing I will plan on goofing off and do absolutely no chores no cooking and make no calls Maybe stay in PJs all day and eats snacks reading books But then I wake up from my dream-state and realize there are horses to feed stalls to rake birds to feed coffee to make meals to prepare things to dohellipand my ldquoday of restrdquo turns out like all others Busy and running around And I think I am not alone Americans cannot sit still

My girlfriend Liz says they always have a big family

barbecue on Labor Day and her husband Joe does the grilling Which usually means that Liz makes the side dishes the salad the dessert sets the table makes the drinks does the clean-up and then Joe gets the credit for ldquomaking dinnerrdquo Oh and Joe wears one of those (silly) chef hats and aprons for his ldquobig dayrdquo of barbecuing ribs while he stands outside drinking a beer and having a grand time Liz says she is sick of Labor Day because she does all the laboring

Maybe Labor Day is an American holiday that somehow celebrates the very thing that Americans do best We work hard Other countries take longer vacations have shorter work weeks and have all sorts of clever ldquorulesrdquo so the employees are not ldquoover-workedrdquo Germany has just invoked a law that an employer cannot contact an employee about a job-related issue after 6 pm in the evenings and never on weekends I am not making this up Some countries pamper their workers Very un-American

Labor Day was intended to be a day of rest (with pay) for people who were working long hours with little recognition earning measly wages and doing back-breaking jobs Even that funny television show called ldquoWorldrsquos Dirtiest Jobsrdquo cannot quite describe working conditions in America a century ago Labor Day was created to honor ldquothe common manrdquo whose hard labor helped dig

ditches build bridges roads and buildings In other words these workers were honored for creating our infrastructure

Many people think that Labor Day has lost its meaning It has become another shallow three-day weekend and an excuse for more retail sales Over the years Labor Day has been about anything but labor and to most it represents the end of summer start of school beginning of football and one last barbecue The holiday has evolved over the years At one point in time Labor Day was celebrated with huge parades of working people marching around town squares holding up banners that proudly displayed their trade

Labor Day also signified the absolute cut-off for wearing white shoes or pants Of course fashion has changed and now it doesnrsquot matter Come to think of it I donrsquot see many folks wearing white shoes unless they are tennis shoes And of course Labor Day ushers in Fall with the promise of cooler days longer nights less weeds to cut and fewer dust storms

One man emailed me to say that after a long hot summer he relishes Labor Day because then his wife will start cooking again He claims she ldquorefusesrdquo to turn on the stove unless the temperatures are below 80 degrees (in Phoenix that might be December) And one lady emailed me to state that Labor Day is her favorite holiday because everyone in her family goes camping and she is left alone in ldquoblissful solituderdquo for a few days Whatever the reason we like Labor Day

Hope your ldquocelebrationrdquo of your years of work and labor was completely relaxing And even though Labor Day has passed go ahead and wear white turn off the phone go camping (or stay home occasionally dare to do nothing and be sure to put on your chef rsquos hat (or maybe not) But please donrsquot think about all the hours you have toiled in your life since it could be upsetting Dear Readers hopefully you can enjoy the ldquofruits of your laborsrdquo all year long

New River man arrested for animal abuse

NEW RIVER ndash A New River resident was arrested on Sept 3 for animal abuse James Wright 29 was arrested after Maricopa County Sheriff rsquos Office Animal Crimes detectives discovered 13 dogs in extremely poor condition at the New River home Wright occupied with his mother Detectives say charges may also be filed against Wrightrsquos mother

Sheriff rsquos detectives executed a search warrant at the home located near New River Road and Fig Springs Road In an MCSO release the detectives

described the 13 dogs at the home as ldquoliving inside the home in their own waste some blind paralyzed with open wounds and emaciatedrdquo

MCSO reported that Wright admitted during an interview with Sheriff rsquos detectives that some of the dogs had been bitten by rattlesnakes and said he ldquodid not have any money to take the dogs to the vetrdquo One dog a female pit bull was found severely emaciated and had open wounds due to a rattlesnake bite

Wright reportedly told Sheriff rsquos

detectives that he did not have

money to care for the dog and the dog refused to eat However the claim that the dog would not eat was disproven when detectives took the dog to a vet and the dog ate voraciously

MCSO noted that sheriff rsquos detectives had been summoned to Wrightrsquos home previously regarding animal cruelty and neglect Wright had in the past rectified the situation after being spoken to by detectives

Wright has been booked into jail and further charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues

MOVIE COLUMNISTThere may be a new driver but

the fourth film in the rebooted ldquoTransporterrdquo series still focuses on high-speed car chases and fist-fighting extravagance Gone is Jason Statham the star of the first three films in the franchise replaced by the deadpan whispery-voiced Ed Skrein who viewers may recognize from a small part in the ldquoGame of Thronesrdquo television show Director Camille Delamarre who last year helmed the parkour action film ldquoBrick Mansionsrdquo doesnrsquot bring anything new to the fledgling franchise but instead caters to the most fundamental elements of action movie making car chase gunfight fistfight explosion repeat a method that worked much better with Jason Statham in the driverrsquos seat

A gorgeous Audi sits in a dark parking structure spotlighted as if it was a showroom A group of men gaze at the shining beauty readying to take it as their own Out of the shadows a lone man in a perfectly tailored suit disrupts the theft It ends with one man standing alone with his car Frank Martin (Ed Skrein) is a very particular professional driver that operates a business

by a specific set of rules Frank is hired by a beautiful woman (Loan Chabanol) to assist in the robbery of a Russian crime lord who has been running a prostitution ring in France

Regardless of what the trailer for ldquoThe Transporter Refueledrdquo may imply there is a narrative at work underneath the car chases and fistfights A desperate woman out for revenge with the help of a quiet tough guy sound familiar Here itrsquos the

women imprisoned into a life of prostitution by a Russian bad-guy archetype heavy accent and all who are seeking revenge through an overly elaborate and often absurd scheme The plot just floats around from scene to scene making an appearance between action set pieces to make the viewer remember why the characters are dodging bullets wearing disguises and

chasing after speeding jets Jason Stathamrsquos charisma and screen presence along with the composition of the fight scenes had a factor in masking these narrative flaws in the first three films here they are harshly apparent

While Ed Skrein plays the role completely straightforwardly even displaying a decent physical performance during fight scenes the narrative undercuts all the characters by giving them terrible dialog and illogical decision-making Making the most of a character that is utilized as a plot device Ray Stevenson plays Frankrsquos father with a lighthearted and sometimes comedic approach

ldquoThe Transporter Refueledrdquo wants to be an aggressively charged adrenaline pumping action film but instead offers rehashed actions scenes that were done better in other films Thatrsquos a problem for a film that looks to provide 95 minutes of mindless entertainment Without Jason Statham a key piece of what made these films

appealing is missing and all

that remains is the transport

without the Transporter This

ultimately keeps the film stuck

in neutral revving its engine

with nowhere to go

UCP acknowledges record success of Circle K support

PHOENIX ndash Through fundraising efforts at local stores and events throughout t Arizona Circle K employees customers and vendors generously helped raise a record $58 million for United Cerebral Palsy of Central and Southern Arizona and Opportunity Village in Las Vegas The 2014 fundraising surpassed the previous yearrsquos total by $500000 representing a nearly 10 percent increase in charitable giving through the Circle K partnership with UCP The funds donated support the organizationsrsquo mission to help children and adults with disabilities including Down syndrome autism developmental delays learning disabilities and cerebral palsy

As an ongoing effort across the state donations are collected 24 hours a day every day at Circle K stores throughout Arizona where employees engage customers to donate extra change at the register to benefit families and children with disabilities In addition to in-store fundraising Circle K business partners participated in events such as UCPrsquos Desert Klassic Golf Tournament which resulted in even more

funds raised toward UCPrsquos important mission

overpopulation of burros a ldquodefinite situationrdquo but he noted that they donrsquot necessarily have to be removed from that area and that courts have ruled that the recommended number of burros in the Wild Horse and Burro Act is not an absolute Godfrey added that Arizona has about 4000 burros in-state about half the number of wild burros in the West

ldquoWersquore the burro staterdquo Godfrey said

Arizona Game and Fish Department does not manage burro population but they can ask the BLM to help handle overpopulation

ldquoFor the Arizona Game and Fish Department proper burro management reflects populations that are within established appropriate management levels that are in proper balance with surrounding wildlife and habitatrdquo said Gonzalez

June Shoemaker BLM Acting Deputy State Director ndash Renewable Resources noted that population numbers are the reason that the BLM sometimes gathers herds and adopts them out

ldquoThe goal always is to try to get it down to a management levelrdquo Shoemaker said While the BLM adopts out burros regularly they donrsquot keep the burros in holding Shoemaker noted that the adoption gathers are ldquodemand drivenrdquo The BLM will only gather as many as can be quickly adopted out

Wild horses have been in the headlines in the past several weeks due to the proposed removal of the Salt River horses that roam nearby the Salt River The horses were scheduled for removal from the area due to traffic and environmental concerns but that has been postponed indefinitely The Tonto National Forest area where those horses reside is managed by the US Forest Service the Bureau of Land Management has no control over the Salt River horses The BLMrsquos methods of herd management and relocation may differ from the Forest Service

Amber Cargile BLM Deputy State Director ndash Communications noted that the BLM cooperates with the US Forest Service on other issues but that the Salt River horses are not a BLM-managed herd

ldquoWe donrsquot have any herds over in that part of the state at allrdquo Cargile said

Burro overpopulation concerns

Why is burro overpopulation a problem Gonzalez explained the concerns caused by burro overpopulation

ldquoWhile desert wildlife species typically consume only parts of plants that easily grow back burros eat the bark and remove entire limbs from treesrdquo Gonzalez said ldquoThey consume native grasses down to the roots preventing them from returning foul waterholes used by other wildlife and disturb sensitive nesting grounds In some cases habitat damage is so severe that native wildlife is displaced from their home territories Burros negatively affect habitat relied on by bighorn sheep mule deer Gambelrsquos quail sensitive migratory songbirds and other wildlife species that have evolved to live in the desertrdquo

While burros arenrsquot known to directly pose danger to people or companion animals roadway accidents are a chief concern A burrocar collision is dangerous for the driver and will likely guarantee death for the burro

ldquoIn May Bullhead City Mayor Tom Brady told the Game and Fish Commission that soaring burro populations near his city have led to multiple serious vehicle collisions between the animals and motoristsrdquo Gonzalez said ldquoItrsquos an issue that impacts motorists throughout western Arizona and one that is actively being studiedrdquo

Cargile said that the BLM works closely with the Department of Public Safety regarding burros in high-traffic areas She noted that the burros are often seen near the Loop 303 and have even wandered on the Ben Avery Shooting Range If burros are close to a roadway DPS will call the BLM to work on getting the animals moved away from the area

ldquoWe try to be very responsive to those calls when they come in

from DPSrdquo Cargile said

When the burros get too

comfortable near roadways

and stay near busy areas the

BLM may then gather up those

burros and put them in the

adoption lineup

Shoemaker asked drivers

to drive particularly carefully

and at safe speeds in burro-

populated areas to lessen the

risk of a collision

ldquoThe smartest thing to do is be

aware especially at night If we

get calls that theyrsquore by or near

roadways we try to relocate

themrdquo Shoemaker said

As with other wildlife

Gonzalez noted that feeding

burros could endanger them

ldquoAs burros become more

accustomed to humans there

will likely be an increase in

the number of burro-vehicle

collisionsrdquo Gonzalez noted

ldquoBurros will also lose their

fear of people which often

results in negative burro-human

interactions and while one

person may like seeing burros

in hisher neighborhood

the non-native species may

become a nuisance for others

as fruit trees or ornamental

vegetation is eaten or damagedrdquo

Shoemaker concurred

noting that some feeding is

inadvertent since burros will eat

peoplersquos lawns

ldquoSome people really do go

out and feed themrdquo Shoemaker

said ldquoThat isnrsquot helpful They

become habituated to thatrdquo

Burro overpopulation management

BLM spokesman Godfrey discussed what management of the burro population would look like Burro adoption is a good option residents can adopt a gentled burro through the BLM and help the overpopulation problem while gaining a fascinating companion animal

Godfrey said that the BLM recently gathered 51 burros from the Lake Pleasant area by using bait corrals with self-closing gates These burros will now enter the adoption process The BLM will vaccinate them evaluate their health and then make them available for adoption

ldquoThey go through training and gentling and they can be remarkably loyal and productiverdquo Godfrey said noting that they make good companion animals are well-suited to living with other animals and are also good watch animals

While the Wild Horse and Burro Act of 1971 references euthanasia as a possibility in overpopulation cases both Godfrey and Shoemaker made it clear that the BLM is not considering this as an option whatsoever

ldquoEuthanasia is not a possibility or considerationrdquo Godfrey emphasized He stated unequivocally that the BLM will not slaughter the burros or provide them to anyone else for slaughter Burros and wild horses may be humanely euthanized if they are extremely ill

ldquoIt is in the act but just by policy we do notrdquo Shoemaker said

Shoemaker discussed another option that is currently in research Some contraceptives have been developed for

horses to help manage herd population but as yet minimal contraceptive options exist for burro herds

ldquoSo far there really have been no immunocontraceptive trials that have been done on burrosrdquo Shoemaker noted The BLM is part of a study of the PZP shot for burros This shot has been reported to show a decrease in fertility in horses after five years

The BLM encourages wild horse and burro adoption as a win-win situation for everyone

ldquoThe BLM is very interested in getting people to adopt burros and wild horsesrdquo Godfrey said Adoption prices start at $125

ldquoWe have regular adoptionsrdquo Godfrey said describing he process Each Friday adoption events are held at the Florence prison

ldquoInmates are involved in training the animalsrdquo Godfrey noted ldquoThe inmates are gaining confidence and gaining skill in working with animalsrdquo Some of the wild horses trained go on to work for the border patrol

The burros will continue to be a part of the north valley for the foreseeable future

ldquoWe have a herd management area at Lake Pleasantrdquo Godfrey said adding that as the herd has spread throughout the north valley that the animals are considered part of that herd management area

Great American historian and author Henry Adams wrote ldquoA teacher affects eternity he can never tell where his influence stopsrdquo In the case of locally-renowned photographer and educator Willis Peterson his influence has expanded into the third generation of gifted Arizona photographers

For over 70 years Willis Petersonrsquos wildlife and nature photography has gained national and international recognition His work has been featured in Arizona Highways Magazine National Geographic Audubon Magazine Pacific Discovery and Natural History He was a contributor in the International Wildlife Photographic Exhibit produced in London in 1969 by the Nature Conservancy Council The National Audubon Society featured his color prints in their traveling environmental exhibit in 1970 and the Eastman Kodak Company displayed a group of his prints in their New York City Gallery in 1972

Peterson grew up in Colorado Springs Colorado during the Great Depression and World War II He received his first camera as a gift when he was fourteen years old This set off him roaming the natural landscapes of back country Colorado Springs and led to a lifelong career in images and education His photography was so well received as he grew in maturity skill and photo techniques that the national press sat up and took notice leading to commissions

involving national and international assignments

Eventually Peterson and his family moved to the Phoenix area where he became a photographer and feature writer for the Arizona Republic As his reputation became established in Arizona Peterson was asked in 1966 to be one of the founding faculty members of Glendale Community College With the opportunity of a lifetime to create a photography program of his own Peterson left the Republic to obtain a masterrsquos degree in educational technology which enabled him to join the faculty of GCC as a full time member in 1968 It wasnrsquot long before Peterson had built his program into ldquothe place to be if you were serious about a career in photographyrdquo In 1975 he was named the photography teacher of the year in the community college system He continued to be known as the ldquoFather of Photographyrdquo at GCC for the next 18 years

During his teaching years Peterson continued to freelance with his own work building national and international recognition His work appeared in major art museums and natural history museums

across the US as well major exhibitions nationally and internationally Education and the arts was a family affair in the Peterson household as well Roberta his wife was an elementary teacher in the Phoenix area and ldquoheld down the fortrdquo in the evening typing his articles filing negatives answering correspondence and filling requests for Petersonrsquos photographs Daughter Cynthia has followed in her fatherrsquos footsteps building her own successful and recognized painting career she has become well known in her own right occasionally exhibiting her work with her father Willis and Roberta now live in Clarkdale AZ retired from their teaching careers but not from the wildlife and nature photography that still takes them ldquointo the wildrdquo

Area residents will have a rare opportunity to view Willis Petersonrsquos images as part of the Mentor Teacher Student exhibit at the Desert Foothills Library Sept 22-Oct 5 during library hours Local resident and photographer Jerry Sieve Petersonrsquos former student and Arizona Highways photographer himself will be doing a ldquowalk-throughrdquo of the exhibit on Sept 26 at 1 pm everyone is welcome Donrsquot miss the opportunity to view almost 100 years of worldwide images captured by three generations of Arizonarsquos most celebrated photographers

ANTHEM ndash Kelley Camastorsquos home is a busy place ndash and she wouldnrsquot have it any other way She and her husband Paul have nine children who are all adopted or are in the adoption process

ldquoAbout 10 years ago my husband and I decided to see what foster care was likerdquo Camasto shared They went to classes and got licensed as foster care parents From there they took in their two oldest sons and the family just kept growing Camastorsquos children range in age from 17 to four months

Being an adoptive parent has both rewards and challenges and Camasto an Anthem resident started the Anthem Foster Adoption and Foster Connection group to provide support to adoptive and foster parents as well as share information on how to get started in the fosteradoption process

ldquoAbout a year ago I started the Anthem Foster Adoption Connectionrdquo Camasto said ldquoItrsquos a support group Basically when my husband and I got in 10 years ago we didnrsquot have a lot of friends and family who knew much about adoptionrdquo Camasto wanted to make the process easier for other parents The group is presenting an adoptionfoster expo at the Anthem Civic Building on Sept 19

Camasto noted that fostering or adopting can be daunting ndash multiple troubling stories go around regarding it She recounted how she and her husband were nervous when they fostered and adopted the first time but their worry turned out to be unnecessary

ldquoWhen we got our first two they had already been in the system a long time and when they came to live with us they wanted a mom and a dadrdquo Camasto said ldquoFrom the first moment I met my oldest son the moment I opened the door he asked my husband lsquoAre you my new dadrsquordquo

also an Anthem resident is Camastorsquos friend and neighbor Vanderham and her husband started fostering last year They fostered two little girls for about six months the girls eventually went to live with their extended family

ldquoIt was a really good transitionrdquo Vanderham said ldquoMost people donrsquot want to foster because theyrsquore afraid to give them uprdquo Vanderham noted that foster parents have to go into fostering with the mindset that the kids may go back and that ldquoitrsquos for the kids and itrsquos best for them and theyrsquore with familyrdquo

ldquoItrsquos really whateverrsquos best for the children ndash itrsquos not about usrdquo Vanderham emphasized She currently is fostering two sisters while their parents work on obtaining services and doing what needs to be done in their own lives to create a safe healthy environment for their children

ldquoMy job as a foster is just to provide them just as much routine and security as I can and to help them the best that I canrdquo Vanderham said

Vanderham has always wanted to be a foster mom she notes that she had to ldquowait for the right timerdquo

ldquoI taught for 10 years and I had so many foster kids in my classesrdquo Vanderham said ldquoI loved them I was always like ndash I just want to take them home I just always had that passion for it (fostering) and wanted tordquo

When Vanderham who has three children became a stay-at-home mom she knew the time was right She plans to continue fostering for as long as she can

Camasto noted that there arenrsquot many nearby resources for north valley families thinking about fostering or adopting and that her goal through the Anthem Foster Adoption and Foster Connection group is to ldquohelp others foster and adoptrdquo With 17000 Arizona kids in the foster care system helping connect adopters with children who need a home is crucial

The Anthem Foster Adoption and Foster Connection expo on Sept 19 is free and open to the public Representatives from multiple groups will be on-hand to answer questions and share information on the fosteradopt process

suspect fired a round from the handgun into the wall while standing in close proximity to the clerks intending to intimidate them The suspect then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash The clerks did not see or hear a vehicle The suspect vehicle description came from a witness who had exited the store just prior to the robbery and saw the suspicious SUV in the Family Dollar store parking lotrdquo

The robbery suspect is described as male likely Caucasian in his early 20s weighing 155-170 pounds height approximately 5rsquo08rdquo to 5rsquo 10rdquo At the time of the robbery he was wearing a

grey sweat shirt possibly inside out black short pants and a black cap with a grey front panel displaying a logo and a lsquoStarterrsquo brand logo on the caprsquos bill The possible vehicle of the suspect is a late model SUV described as burnt orangemetallic red in color

Anyone with information is urged to contact lead detective Todd Swaim at (928) 554-8605 or Yavapai Silent Witness at 1(800) 932-3232 refer to case no 15-029563 Callers to Silent Witness remain anonymous and become eligible for a $1000 cash reward if an arrest is made in this case
