“From discussions with GWCL however, they made use of the income status, their geographical location and the density of people living in an area to estimate the standard…..They also factored in industrial use of water into the per-capita consumption of an individual since they did not have a standard way of measuring industrial water use…. So their average working value of 120-140l/c/d is based primarily on the factors mentioned above”

Actual use?

“Problems occur, as people are refusing to connect to the system and it is therefore only operating at 12% of its original design capacity. The low pollution load causes failure of the biological system and hereby insufficient treatment….Measures, such as closing 2 of the 3 operational channels or allowing trucks to deliver FS at the reception stage, have so far not been taken… As soon as the WWTP in Legon starts full operation, they are planning to dry the waste water and then, depending on demand, sell or landfill the sewage sludge (Korankye 2013 in Hydrophil 2014)”
