ALL FRESHMEN SHOULD HAVE 6 CLASSES TO INCLUDE:

ENGLISH (English 1, H. English 1, or sheltered English)

• ENCOURAGE GOOD STUDY SKILLS IN 4 EASY STEPS: – Your student should:

-Check Planner / Gather Materials-Complete an assignment / check it

off -Put assignment where it belongs-Pack backpack before going to sleep

WHS GRADE REPORT REVIEW

Parents are notified electronically of students’ grades every four to five weeks.

• WEEK 5 - PROGRESS REPORT (D or below notice)• WEEK 9 - QUARTER GRADES (Letter grade notice each class)• WEEK 14 - PROGRESS REPORT (D or below notice)• WEEK 19 - SEMESTER GRADES (Official, final grade for each class)

• SUMMER SCHOOL GRADES (If applicable)

Grade reports are the only required notification of your student’s performance. Teachers may not call home if your child is doing poorly. Please check parent portal regularly.

**Only semester and summer school grades earn credit and appear on your student’s transcript**

WHAT ARE IUSD MINIMUM GRADUATION

REQUIREMENTS?• 215 CREDITS• REQUIRED SUBJECTS (INCLUDING ALGEBRA 1)• PHYSICAL FITNESS STANDARDS PASSED - (Not a graduation req., just more PE required if not met)

• CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL EXIT EXAM- ELA- reading, writing, and vocabulary- MATH – arithmetic and Algebra 1- Students take in spring of 10th grade

IUSD Parent Support• Positive Discipline for Building Capable

Kids: This innovative class teaches parents of children and teenagers of all ages to use

kindness and firmness at the same time, to teach life skills, and encourage self-respect, self-discipline, cooperation, good behavior and problem-solving.

• Active Parenting of Teens: Learn effective ways to instill courage and self-esteem, deal with negativity, develop responsibility, win cooperation, use consequences and problem-solving, increase positive communication, and deal with challenging topics like values, computer and internet challenges, sexuality, violence, alcohol and other drugs.

• Parent Support Group: This group will meet weekly and is open to all Irvine parents of children and teens of any age. Come and get some support in a relaxed setting, learn some positive parenting skills, and make friends.
