Night of Ho. i An and the final Farewell Party.Being the major organizer of international choir competitions, INTERKULTUR is current-ly preparing numerous new festivals for the upcoming years, amongst them interesting new events e.g. in the USA, Greece and Italy. And of course you will also have the possi-bility to choose one of our fantastic events for instance in Spain, Austria or Germany for your next competition performance. We are also looking forward to the worlds biggest choral event, the 9th World Choir Games in July 2016, which will take place in the beau-tiful city of Sochi (Russia) at the Black Sea. But first of all I would like to wish all par-ticipants a lot of success and great experi-ences when celebrating and performing in the streets, at squares and on stages in the beautiful Ho. i An City in Vietnam.

Welcome to the 4th edition of the Vietnam International Choir Competition 2015 in Ho. i An City. I am very happy that we will welcome this year 40 choirs from 15 coun-tries. This is quite a number we take pride in and we are glad that our event at one of Vietnams most attractive destinations has developed in such an outstanding way. We are looking forward to numerous choirs from Indonesia and the Philippines. But also, to name but a few examples, ensem-bles from Australia, Finland, Germany, Sri Lanka and India will be representing their countries. My sincere thanks therefore goes to all local and international organizations that have contributed to the success of this unique festival. We will be pleased to experience some interesting and top-class competitions. But the highlights that make our event a colourful and distinctive festival are like-wise important. It all starts with a grand opening ceremony and continues with the choir parade through the city of Ho. i An, numerous Friendship Concerts in the flower-bedecked streets and the impressi-ve Awards Ceremony until the Legendary

Following the success of the international choir competitions in 2011 and 2013, this year from April 29 to May 3, Ho. i An City con-tinues to host the 4th Vietnam International Choir Competition in co-operation with IN-TERKULTUR. We are proud of the good re-sult we achieved and I hope that this years event will be a remarkable movement and be more successful.On behalf of the city official and Ho. i An citi-zens, I would like to thank INTERKULTUR for again choosing Ho. i An as a destination for this important international choral music event. I would also like to extend my war-mest greetings and heartfelt thanks to the conductors and singers from all the choirs for participating in the event in our city.Coming to Ho. i An the world cultural he-ritage, you will be able to have a leisurely walk along the quiet streets, enjoy the har-monious music, visit the historical-cultural relics; traditional villages and mix with the beautiful landscapes, especially enjoy spe-cialties. In 2014, Ho. i An city received a varie-ty of different awards voted by international organizations, such as: Top 10 world famous canals; Top 50 cities to see in your lifetime, Top 10 worlds most romantic cities, etc.

The first INTERKULTUR International Choir Competition in Budapest, held in 1988, was the start of one of the largest and most successful series of cultural events in Europe. The INTERKULTUR Event Series has meanwhile become known throughout the world for its high artistic and organizational standards and as a concept for the choirs and choir enthusiasts worldwide. These events are orga-nized by INTERKULTUR, a non-profit organization based in Germany.

INTERKULTURs biggest success to date was to bring the antique Olympic idea to the choral commu-nity. The Choir Olympics 2000 in Linz, Austria was the beginning of a Choir Olympic movement, with subsequent events in Busan, Republic of Korea in 2002, and Bremen, Germany in 2004. This success continued as the World Choir Games in Xiamen, China in 2006, Graz, Austria in 2008, Shaoxing, China in 2010, and Cincinnati, USA in 2012. In 2014, the World Choir Games were held in Riga, Latvia and marked the biggest event in the history of the choir Olympic idea attracting 27,000 participants. In 2016, the World Choir Games will come to the Olympic city of Sochi in Russia. Another milestone in the history of INTERKULTUR was to establish a World Championship for choirs. The first World Choir Championships debuted in 2009 in the Province of Gyeongnam, Republic of Korea, followed by the World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults in July 2011 in Graz, Austria. Graz again was the host city for a INTERKULTUR event, the first European Choir Games and the Songs of Spirit Festival were held in July 2013.The second edition of this European version of the World Choir Games will be held in Magdeburg, Germany in July 2015.

The IdeaINTERKULTUR has become the symbol for a unique artistic idea, consisting of a new interpretation concerning the execution of choir festivals. In comparison to traditional meritorious choir competi-tions that only invite international elite choirs to take part; the INTERKULTUR competitions are open to all non-professional choirs. Choirs from all over the world, interested in gaining international fes-tival and competition experience, can compete according to their level of artistic achievement. The Artistic Committee puts emphasis on the presence of the highest level of choral performers as well as on the presence of the greatest diversity of choirs in all competitions. This new type of competiti-on has been copied by numerous organizations in the past two decades. With the idea to organize the World Choir Games, formerly known as Choir Olympics biennially, INTERKULTUR has opened a door to new impulses and perspectives for the national and international choral movement.

The Quality SealFor more than 20 years, MUSICA MUNDI has been the exclusive quality seal for all INTERKULTUR events worldwide. The evaluation system on which all INTERKULTUR competitions are based upon since the first event in Budapest in 1988 have been improved continuously. MUSICA MUNDI ensu-res comparability among all events, a smooth organization and has set standards in the world of choral music.

The CompetitionsThere are various categories for all types and levels of choirs in different degrees of difficulty, with or without compulsory pieces. The competitions offer good competitive conditions, valuable artistic contacts, various workshops and seminars, as well as practice opportunities with international per-formers. More than 200 experts and leading choirmasters from all over the world guarantee a high level of expertise in all INTERKULTUR events.

Evaluation SystemThe jury awards Bronze, Silver, and Gold Diplomas on 10 levels at INTERKULTUR competitions along with Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals at the World Choir Games and World Choir Championships, according to the MUSICA MUNDI evaluation system. In each category, a winner or champion is determined and outstanding achievements are honored with special prizes. In some competitions there is a grand prize competition of the category winners which determines the overall winner of the competition.

The Pedagogical ConceptINTERKULTUR events are not just competitions and international choir festivals. Choirs are able to receive feedback from various pedagogical offerings. In evaluation rounds, choirs have the chance to work with international jury members and gain advice on their current level of achievement, receive proficient pedagogical and artistic information and obtain suggestions as to how to interpret the chosen piece. Choirs may also attend workshops and seminars along with participation in Friendship and Celebration Concerts which allow international choirs to interact with choirs of the host city during INTERKULTUR events.

Locations of Festivals and CompetitionsTo date, INTERKULTUR events have taken place in Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Indo-nesia, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, Malta, Peoples Republic of China, Republic of Korea, Spain, Sweden, USA, Vietnam and Serbia. In 2015 also Greece will fill a gap on the map of INTERKULTUR events.

The ParticipantsIn total, more than 7,700 choirs with roughly 350,000 active singers from 100 countries have taken part in the INTERKULTUR competitions to date. An interesting note is that more than half of the participants have been children and youth up to 25 years of age.

Means of SupportIn accordance with its statutes, INTERKULTUR supports the following activities: International music festivals and choir competitions whose goal is to bring together choirs from different regions of the world and encourage international collaboration through mutual respect, as well as to contribute to cultural exchange and understanding among nations Children and youth choirs even from financially challenged countries Non-professional choirs that focus on the growth of youth development Young, talented choirmasters, young musicians and singers through the support of scholarship awards Specific sponsorship opportunities

European Culture AwardINTERKULTUR was awarded the 2006 European Culture Award, by former German Minister of For-eign Affairs, Hans Dietrich Genscher and presented by KulturForum Europa, for its activities on behalf of understanding between peoples and furtherance of common European thinking in the field of culture.

Ralf Eisenbei was born in 1952 in Zeulenroda. After his secondary school examination he stu-died pedagogy, German philology and musical education. He received his PhD in 1979 at the Pedagogical University of Zwickau. From 1978 to 1981, he studied choir and orchestra conducting at the Franz Liszt Conservatory in Weimar. Ralf Eisenbei was working as the director of the choral department at the Pedagogical Universi-ty in Zwickau and appointed professor for choir conducting and choral singing in 1987. He was conductor of the renowned Pedagogical Univer-sity Zwickau Choir. With his choir he performed a wide repertoire of compositions for a cappella choirs and with orchestra, too. Under his direction the choir won numerous prizes at national and international choir competitions. Ralf Eisenbei was lecturer at the central semi-nar for choral conductors in Berlin and organized numerous workshops himself. He often appears as guest conductor at home and abroad. Since more than 20 years he works as artistic director of INTERKULTUR. Ralf Eisenbei is founder of the Int. Robert Schumann Choir Competition in Zwi-ckau and one of the founders of the World Choir Games. Since 1992 he was responsible for about hundred international competitions of INTER-KULTUR in Germany, Italy, Korea, Indonesia, Chi-na, Austria, Spain, USA and other countries. Ralf Eisenbei is very often invited as a juror in natio-nal and other international choir competitions all over the world.

Dang Chau Anh received Masters of Art in Choral Conducting and Music education from the Vietnam National Academy of Music and Malmo Academy of Music (Sweden). She is a member of the International Society for Mu-sic Education. Dang Chau Anh has 17 years working as an Art Director for Children Choirs, Choir of Vocal Faculty of Vietnam National Academy of music and Hanoi International School. Together with Vietnam Children Choir SolArt, she attended many events and festivals of Vietnam Television as well as INTERKULTUR Festivals including World Choir Championship in Korea 2009 and the 1st Vietnam Internatio-nal Choir Competition 2011. In the role of an Art Director, she led SolArt to many titles in competitions such as: Gold Medal, Public Pri-ze and Best Performance in International Jo-hannes Brahms Choir Festival in Wernigerode, Germany 2011 and 2013. In several years, she was Guest Conductor in Children of the World in Harmony and The Voices Without Border in Petoskey, the USA. She received many invita-tions to be a jury member for music and choir competitions in Vietnam including DoReMi, Lets Get Loud, Young Intellectual, The 1st and 2nd Vietnam International Choir Competition.She is also well known by Vietnam Television audience as M.C. and an editor of many mu-sic programs on Vietnam Broadcasting System over the whole country.

Tommyanto Kandisaputra is the founder, music director and conductor of Studio Cantorum Ban-dung Choir & Orchestra, which actively performs important music repertoire in Indonesia. He is working as voice consultant for Elfa Secioria Music Studio, Gema Sangkakala Choir and Bitung City Choir amongst others. Currently, he is the con-ductor of the State University of Manado Student Choir (UNIMA CHOIR), Balikpapan City Choir as well as Studio Cantorum Bandung. Tommyanto Kandisaputra conducts many choir development programs all over Indonesia for singers and con-ductors. Tommyanto Kandisaputra was the Artistic Direc-tor of the 1st Asian Choir Games 2007 in Jakarta, Indonesia, the North Sulawesi International Choir Competition 2008 in Manado and the Tomohon International Choir Competition 2009 / 2010 in North Sulawesi. Nowadays he organizes the Ban-dung International Choir Competition in his home town and the successful Bali International Choir Competition in Denpasar annually. Tommyanto Kandisaputra is the chairman and founder of the Bandung Choral Society that organizes concerts and collaborations, symposium on Church Choral Music since 2003 until now. Tommyanto was a World Choir Council member and is the chairman of INTERKULTUR Indonesia since 2006. In 2014, he was nominated one of the Represen-tatives of Indonesia for One Asia Cultural Ambas-sador organized by Music for One Foundation in South Korea.

Ko Matsushita graduated at the top of his class from the Kunitachi College of Music, Department of Composition, and went on to study chorus con-ducting under the late prof. Remnyi Jnos, and prof. Erdei Pter in Budapest and Kecskemt (Kod-ly institute), Hungary. He is currently the conductor and artistic director of 14 choirs, which are often invited to perform in Japan, Europe, America, Canada, and Asia. They have also achieved excellent showings in the cho-ral circuit and won awards in international com-petitions. A prolific composer and arranger, Matsushitas works are performed around the world. His com-positions vary widely, ranging from works based on traditional Japanese music, Masses, motets, to etudes for choirs. Besides conducting and composing, Matsushita is also an active workshop clinician and lecturer both within and outside Japan. In 2005, he became the first Asian to receive the Robert Edler Prize for Choral Music in recogniti-on of his outstanding achievements worldwide in conducting, composing, performance, and educa-tion within the field of choral music. He is currently the Artistic director of the Tokyo Choral Alliance KOYUKAI and Karuizawa Interna-tional Choral Festival, a board member of the To-kyo Choral Association, as well as a member of the Japan Choral Directors Association, the Interna-tional Kodaly Society, and a representative of the Workshop of the Choral Expression. Furthermore he is a member of Japan Composers & Arrangers Association.

Nguyen Thieu Hoa was born in a traditional Viet-namese music family. In his youth he attended an elementary course of music at the Hanoi National Conservatory of Music with the age of 11 years.In 1970, he studied French horn and choir conduc-ting at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music in Moscow. In 1976, Nguyen Thieu Hoa was selected to study conducting of symphony orchestra and opera with professor Leo Ginzburg, the mentor of many world famous conductors and later with professor Kitaenko.In 1982 he has graduated from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music with excellent grades.Nguyen Thieu Hoa has performed with different famous artists: People Artist Dang Thai Son (Vi-etnam), Teko Maehashi (Japan), Ilinka Dumitrescu (Romania), Philippe Dorn (France).In September 2002, he was invited to Pusan (Ko-rea) as a conductor of the Opening Show of the 14th ASIAD Festival with Beethovens symphony No. 9.In 2006 he was active as music director and con-ductor for the Choir Besetoha Festival.At present, Nguyen Thieu Hoa is Doctor of art, emeritus artist, a member of the executive com-mittee, chairman of the Arts Council Music Associ-ation Hanoi and Principal conductor of the Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra. Nguyen Thieu Hoa was awarded many awards in the field of composition by Vietnam Musicians As-sociation, particularly the concerto written for vi-etnamese bamboo flute and symphony orchestra.

Johan Rooze studied Piano and Conducting at the Utrecht Conservatory, the Netherlands. Later he went to the U.S. to specialize in Jazz Piano, Singing and Arranging.He was founder and 23 years Musical Director of the Utrecht University Vocal Group Dekoor. They won many prices such as The Dutch Choir Festival, The International Vocal Group Festival and the Idols for choir TV show, Korenslag 2007 in the Netherlands. He was Conductor of the Utrecht Student Symphonic Choir and Orchestra. With the-se choirs he toured all over the world. Johan Rooze founded the Dudok-Ensemble, an outstanding Project Choir, conducted the monthly Bach Canta-tas in Utrecht and was guest conductor with the National Radio Choir.Furthermore he was Professor for Vocal Jazz, Con-ducting and Arranging at the Conservatories of Rotterdam and Alkmaar, a member of the board of Musical Advisors for the Dutch Royal Christian Music Association and Artistic Director for the In-ternational Choir Festival, Netherlands 2005.In 2008 he moved to South Korea and teaches Choral Music and Jazz Piano at the Yeongnam Uni-versity. He is musical director of a new Jazz Choir (Yaenoeul Jazz Singers) and in 2010 he founded the professional Daegu Students Choir. He is a fre-quent guest conductor with other choirs. Besides his choral work he is very active as a Jazz Pianist and Arranger. He works as Artistic Director for IN-TERKULTUR and is a frequently asked adjudicator, speaker and workshop-leader internationally.

Beverly Shangkuan-Cheng is Assistant Professor of Music at the University of the Philippines, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate conducting, choir, and music theory. She is also the Music Direc-tor and Conductor of the multi-awarded Ateneo de Manila University College Glee Club, the UP Dawani Womens Choir, and the New Millennium Sanctua-ry Choir. Previously, she conducted the University of Michigan Residential College Singers, the University of Michigan Opera Chorus, the Yale University Chur-ch Choir, and the Yale Marquand Chapel Choir. Her conducting and academic awards include the 2012 Levi Barbour Fellowship from the University of Mi-chigan, the 2010 Phyllis Curtin Career Entry Award from the Yale School of Music, the 2010 Margot Fassler Award and the 2009 Hugh Giles Prize from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. In 2009, she won First Prize at the American Choral Directors Associ-ation (ACDA) National Graduate Conducting Com-petition, the most prestigious national conducting competition in the United States. Recently, she was also invited to be a conducting fellow at the Cho-rus America National Choral-Orchestral Master Class in New York City. Recent conducting engage-ments have brought her to South Africa, Germany, Thailand, Portugal, and Singapore. She has also led workshops in different parts of the Philippines and serves on the National Board of the Philippine Choral Directors Association. Beverly Shangkuan-Cheng received a Bachelor of Music (summa cum laude) from the University of the Philippines, a Mas-ter of Music from the Yale School of Music and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, and a Doctor of Musi-cal Arts from the University of Michigan.

Aida Swenson is one of Indonesias strongest forces of choral music development. She is also a found-er and conductor of the Indonesian Childrens & Youth Choirs- Cordana, who have gathered inter-national recognitions and awards, and have been invited to perform in major cities worldwide. As a graduate of the Westminster Choir College, Princeton, USA and as a sought after clinician, Aida Swenson conducts numerous workshops and ad-judicates national and international events. Her activities as a juror include competitions in: USA, England, Germany, Vietnam and Singapore.Aida Swenson has spent many years traveling throughout Indonesia creating and leading choirs, giving masters classes, and training choral con-ductors. However, her professional endeavors are largely but not limited to her choral clinician acti-vities. Her professional activities include: Council Member of the World Choir Games for Indonesia; Member of the Advisory to INTERKULTURs World Choir Games; Chairman of the Foundation for the Development of Choral Music in Indonesia; Mem-ber of Advisory of the Foundation of Church Music; Member of Artistic team of Polyfollia World Show-case; Member of the committee APCS-IFCM; Artis-tic Director of National Christian Universities Choir Competition in Indonesia.Aida Swenson is featured in the World Who is Who in Choral Music. Her personal commitment to her musical endeavors in Indonesia is not only centered on her vision in furthering the quality of childrens choral development.
