Make sure your members know how their every action impacts your organization - and the students you work with.



Keep members passionate:

• Through community within your team

• Through the differences they’re making (org & world)

• Through feelings of personal accomplishment


MEETINGS• Regular check-ins are good. But not so often they hinder progress.

• If input from multiple people is required, make sure they’re all involved. Avoid fractured meetings to reduce miscommunication, meeting length, and time wasted.

• Always have an agenda: what will you cover, for how long, and what are the goals. This allows everyone to prepare, keeps ideas and conversations on track, and keeps the meeting within time constraints.


DELEGATION• Do it. Trust your team.

• Work with strengths and weaknesses.

• Even though someone can do it better, always (try to) understand the processes you’re delegating.


TAKING CHARGE• You’re in a leadership role for a reason. Remember that.

• People will disagree with your decisions. That’s okay. Just be ready to explain them.

• 100% of those who responded said “____” > Let input be heard, but it can’t prevent progress.


TAKING CHARGE

• Fight for your organization and members.

• In the face of bad policies, act first and ask for forgiveness later… within reason.

• Admit fault.


COMMUNICATION• Miscommunication is costly. But preventable.

• If it requires 3+ emails, it should be a call or in person.

• Don’t separate work and personal unless the other person can too.

• Constant communication with stakeholders.


ASSESSING PROGRESS

• You’ll find yourselves in the trenches. Take frequent steps back.

• Learn from your end user - the students.
