We select the idea to educate the elderly people and would teach them how to make their own signatures.

We felt very sorry for those people who even cannot write their names. One day some of us in a meeting held in our school wrote some of our elders name in the register who came to attend the meeting. They were very glad and overwhelmed to see their names in copies. But in the very next moment one elderly lady grieved and said that she did’nt got the opportunity to learn, otherwise she might also be able to write her name. We took this opportunity of DFC to be a teacher and teach those interested elders who use their thumbs instead of pencils.

We organized a rally with the help of our teachers and went to the village. There we met our elders one by one. As we shared our wish to them that

we have come to teach them how to write they were very amused and casual at the very beginning. But we were very firm on our mission and

slowly gradually people started taking us seriously. We could perceive that what we felt was very true and the illiterate adults have a suppressed pain

within them for not being able to read or write. Whenever they got the opportunity to learn, starting grabbing it at its fullest.

We met the sarpanch of the village and shared our wish. He soon committed himself to be a part of the program and organized a central position in the village where people would come, seat and learn.

We have bring smile in the face of at least 30 adults who are now able to write their names by their own. They do also on their own have committed that from now onwards they would never use thumb impression in-place of signatures. Besides, our efforts have brought in huge change in the minds of our literate elders. Many of them have committed that from now onwards they would teach others.
