Admission is by application only, and occurs only once a year for studies beginning in the fall semester (late

August) or in the spring semester (January). Thus, exchange students wanting to arrive for spring semester must

apply almost a year in advance! Decisions regarding admission are made centrally and based on the results of

the auditions/entrance examinations. No individual administrator or teacher has authority to grant admission.

Universities or Colleges, also at KMH. The tuition fee for one academic year of full-time studies at KMH is SEK

Other rules apply for citizens from the other Nordic countries (i.e. Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway), for

EU/EEA citizens and for those who are long-term residents in another EU-country. Please consult the webpage

of the Swedish Migration Board for details.

Language requirements

Please note that the Swedish language is, as a general rule, used during all courses and lessons at KMH as well as in

auditions/entrance examinations. (Exceptions are the Joint Master Programmes in Nordic Folk/Traditional Music (NoFo),

www.nordicmaster.net, the Nordic Masters Programme in Jazz (NOMAZZ), and the Master in Contemporary Performance

and Composition (CoPeCo), which are taught in English). Therefore, good knowledge of the Swedish language is obligatory

for all applicants to all undergraduate (bachelor) programmes and this knowledge must be reached before a possible start of

studies at KMH. International applicants to such programmes must submit proof of sufficient knowledge of Swedish with

their application, i.e. passed Tisus-test (see Stockholm University webpage, www.su.se, about Tisus).

For exchange programme students instruction during individual lessons can be given in English. In such cases, a very good

command of English is required, and international applicants must submit proof of sufficient knowledge of English with their

application. Please see information on www.universityadmissions.se for English tests. English 6 is required.

Please note that, for all teacher-training (music education) programmes, excellent  knowledge of Swedish is required of ALL

students.

Admission procedure

Applicants to KMH shall register on-line on a national application platform common for all higher education in

Sweden. (Exchange students have a separate procedure. Please see below!) The main deadline for applications

to KMH is January 15, 2014 for most programmes (except teacher training programmes) starting the academic year 2014/15. Deadline for teacher training programmes is April 15, 2014.

Free movers to regular programmes

International applicants who wish to become regular students at KMH must follow the same admission procedure as Swedish

applicants. Such applicants are required to appear in person for auditions (entrance examinations) held in Stockholm each

March. (There are no possibilities to apply to regular programmes by recordings!)

Complete applications to the regular performance programmes (including composition and conducting)  must be

submitted on-line to the application platform www.universityadmissions.se no later than JANUARY 15, each year.

( Application deadline to KMH regular music education programmes is April 15, 2014. For these programmes proved

excellent knowledge of Swedish is required as all tuition is exclusively in Swedish language and on university level. Please,

see details in Swedish section of the KMH website). The KMH programmes will be opened from December 2, 2013. When

registering online, please follow the presented detailed instructions on how to proceed and what to submit. For moreinformation, please consult the application platform www.universityadmissions.se and the KMH website (www.kmh.se). If

you need additional information, you are welcome to contact KMH Student Affairs Office (see contact information below).

Information on specific audition requirements will later be available (mainly in Swedish). The Student Affairs Office can

provide some information in English for programmes where Swedish is not required.

Exchange students

For students already studying at an institution participating in one of the Nordplus or Erasmus or Linnaeus-Palme or bilateral

exchange programmes, please contact the international coordinator at your (home) school for information regarding

programme requirements. All applications made for one of the above exchange programmes MUST be proved and

forwarded to KMH by the international coordinator at your school. Please do not send the application form to KMH yourself.

Exchange students don’t have to take part in the entrance examinations (unless they want to do so) but instead have to submit

a high quality recording together with the application and required papers. This recording will be part of the selection

procedure deciding which applicants to admit. (From 2013 Nordplus applications should be submitted in the NOAS on-line

system. Please contact the international coordinator of your home school for more information).

The deadline for exchange student applications for Erasmus programmes is FEBRUARY 15 each year and for the

Nordplus programme MARCH 1 each year (with exception of all conducting programmes where the deadline is

JANUARY 15 each year). Applications including all submitted material (see below) must be received by KMH (via regular

mail-Erasmus and on-line Nordplus) no later than those dates.
