The first verse of the Quran breathes the spirit ofpeace. It reads: In the name of God, the MostMerciful, the Most Compassionate.

This verse is repeated in the Quran no less than 113times. It shows the great importance Islam attachesto such values as Mercy and Compassion.

Moreover the Quran states that the Prophet

Muhammad PBUH was sent to the world as amercy to mankind.

The ideal society, according to the Quran is Daras-Salam, that is, the house of peace

According to Islam, peace is the rule and war isonly an exception.

Even in defensive war we have to see the result. If

the result is doubtful, Muslims should avoid war,even in a defensive situation.

The enemies of Islam who traveled as far as 300miles from Mecca to Medina only to attack the

Muslims. But the Prophet got a trench dug in orderto prevent an armed confrontation and thusavoided engaging in a defensive war.

Islam attaches great importance to patience. Mostof the verses of the Quran have a bearing, directlyor indirectly, upon this virtue. In truth, patience is an

attribute without which the very thought of Islam isunimaginable.

In Quran Allah repeatedly stresses the need for

Endure with fortitude whatever befalls you.

God is with those that are patient.

Patience is of three types:

1. Patience upon obedience

To bepatient when finding it hard obeyingAllah's rules.

2. To be patient when a trouble befalls

you.

3. To be patient when finding it hard toabstain from sins.

Oh you who believe, stand up firmlyfor justice, as witnesses to God, even ifit be against yourselves, or your

parents, or your kin, and whether it beagainst rich or poor; for God can bestprotect both. Do not follow any

passion, lest you not be just. And if youdistort or decline to do justice, verilyGod is well-acquainted with all thatyou do. (Quran 4:135)

The Qur'an elevates kindness to parents (especiallymothers) to a status second only to the worship ofAllah.

In Quran Allah says

Your Lord has decreed that you worship none butHim and that you be kind to parents. Whether oneor both of them attain old age in your life, say notto them a word of contempt nor repel them, but

address them in terms of honor. (Qur'an 17:23)

1. All men are created by One and the Same Eternal

God, the Supreme Lord of all.

2. All mankind belong to the human race and share

equally in the common parentage of Adam and Eve.

3. God is just and kind to all his creatures. He is not partialto any race, age, or religion. The whole universe is His

dominion and all people are His creatures

4. All people are born equal , and they die equal in the

sense that none brings any possession with him, and

they die equal in the sense that they take back

nothing.

5. God judges every person on the basis of his own merits

and according to his own deeds.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:"No Arab has any superiority over a non-

Arab, nor does a non-Arab have anysuperiority over an Arab. Nor does awhite man have any superiority over ablack man, or the black man any

superiority over the white man. Youare all the children of Adam, and

Adam was created from clay"

And your Lord has decreed that you

worship none but Him. And that you be

dutiful to your parents. If one of them orboth of them attain old age in your life,

say not to them a word of disrespect, nor

shout at them but address them in termsof honor.

regard one another.
