Why I chose Jacqueline CaseyThe reason I chose Jacqueline Casey is because I appreciate the minimalism of her work. The majority of her work involves using the empty space to compliment the work itself. She used minimal colour and it was always simple yet abstract, in a way that didn’t confuse the viewer but challenged their perception. For example ‘Russia, USA Peace, 1985’ the poster commissioned by the Shoshin Society is so basic in the way that its the word Russia but the ‘U,S and A are in different colours which implies a sense of togetherness for 2 countries that were pretty much at arms for the cold war during 1985. Casey has a sense of magnetism in her work in the way that she keeps it so simple but not repetitive yet consistent (if that makes sense). I also chose Casey because she pioneered change for women in graphic design she innovated in a field that thrives off innovation but lacks female representation. I admire this because she probably faced trials in getting to where she got that she wouldn’t have faced as a male
