It’s hard to believe that December is already here. Only a few short weeks until we have another break. No doubt that students are starting December “Beginning with The End in Mind” – as they anxiously await winter break! As students wrap-up their first semester of learning, we continue to remind them to “Put First Things First,” and be responsible by working hard and giving their best efforts. Teachers have also been working hard, reviewing data and planning for the success of all students. All of our grade level teams are focused on improving math and literacy instruction. Our students are showing improvement! I invite you to ask your child about their work during WIN Time, when they are working with adults in small groups to improve their skills. Students have also been preparing for the upcoming holiday season! Songs are being practiced for our holiday concert. Please join us at 1:00 pm on December 5th at Central Middle School. As a parent, I often find myself getting so busy with all of my “to-dos,” that I overlook the excitement this time of year holds for my kids. With everything to do, it’s easy to get caught up in “getting it all done.” It occurs to me that I also need to “Put First Things First” and spend quality time reading to, talking with, and connecting with my kids. Ensuring our kids feel connected and supported in positive ways helps them continue doing well in school! Please continue to read each day with your child. It does make a difference.

Morning Drop Off

Band and Orchestra Concerts The first Band concert of the school year is at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 11th in the West Middle School gym. Students need to arrive by 6:40 with their instrument, red books, and music folders. They will not need to bring their music stand. Students are asked to dress up, but do not have to wear black and white.

The first Orchestra concert of the year will be on Thursday, November 13th at 7:00 pm in the High School Auditorium. Students will need their instrument, music, and their stand if they have one. Please arrive by 6:30 to tune and find your seats so that the concert can start on time.

Mr. Thoma & Mrs. Preslan

Please remember it is important that students arrive to school on time each day. Students should arrive by 8:00 so they can take care of their morning responsibilities and be to class on time. Help your student remember: “Arrive by 8, so you’re not late!”

If your child will not be at school for the day, please contact the office before 8:30 am by calling us at 563-263-8800.

Attendance

Student Council Movie Night!

Miss Our Holiday Concert? Can’t make it to our Holiday Concert? Our concert will be recorded and played back on Public Access Television. Check local listings and set your DVRs to record. Show friends and family when they visit for the holidays!

2015-2016 Preschool Registration for the Muscatine Community School District (MCSD) will now be conducted online. Beginning at NOON on Monday, January 12, 2015 a registration link will be available on the homepage of MCSD’s website (www.muscatine.k12.ia.us). To be eligible for our 3- or 4-year old programs, your child must be 3-years-old or 4-years-old by September 15, 2015. If you do not have ability to access the online form (from your home computer or your mobile device), please contact the Early Childhood Department at 562-263-7223 and we will assist you. You may also access the web at the Musser Public Library.

Pre-School Registration

Notes from the Nurse Winter season is here - which will include colds, coughs and runny noses. If your child needs medication at school, please remember there is a form at school that must be filled out, signed and dated for any medication given for more than one day. Medication must come in the original container, with the exact time to give, and the exact dosage. Cough drops can be kept in the classroom with the teacher.

The holidays are a time for many special celebrations for adults and children. It seems that wherever we go sweet treats are offered. It is important to limit the amount of sweets we consume daily and limit children’s pop intake. Brushing teeth twice daily is essential.

Sharing caps, hats or hooded items can aide in the spread of head lice. Remind your child not to share any items that go near the hair. Girls with long hair should wear it pulled back or up and secured while at school. Also remember to perform head checks once a week at home!!!

Have a Happy, Healthy Holiday Season, Dea Murray RN, School Nurse

Please be sure when using our drop off lane that you pull past the stop signs before your child exits the car. Children should not exit the car in the street. Students should exit vehicles at the curb. As the weather turns colder, please encourage your child to have their hats, gloves, and boots on, ready to exit the car when you arrive. For safety’s sake, students should WALK to the building using the sidewalk, being mindful of slippery surfaces. Student safety is our number one priority!

As a general guideline, students will have

outdoor recess if the temperature is above 10 degrees. If your child’s coat is missing, please

check out our LOST AND FOUND. Also, please

remember to label your child’s outerwear so that

if it gets lost, we can easily return it to them.
