    greetings

    dear Friends,

I am pleased to welcome participants and guests of the Jerusalem Pitch Point conference, being held for the ninth year at the Jerusalem International Film Festival.

The Pitch Point conference has become an annual tradition for film industry professionals around the globe who look forward to meeting one another in Jerusalem and discovering opportunities for joint ventures. This year we are proudly hosting more than 300 artists and filmmakers from 40 countries around the globe at the Jerusalem International Film Festival.

Jerusalem is a spiritual and cultural center and a source of inspiration for millions of Israelis and 3 billion people of faith around the world. The unique landscape of the city, the blend of the modern and ancient, and the incredible human diversity make Jerusalem a hub for inspiration and creativity. The talent and creativity of the artists and filmmakers attending the Pitch Point conference is perfectly matched by the inspiration that the city of Jerusalem and the film professionals that work here have to offer.

I would like to thank and congratulate the organizers of the Pitch Point conference, as well as our partners in Israel and abroad, for their contribution to the thriving business of film and television production in Jerusalem.

    Sincerely,

    Nir BarkatMayor of Jerusalem

    Nir Barkat

On behalf of the cinematheque I would like to greet the participants in the Jerusalem Pitch Point event, being held for the 9th time in the framework of the Jerusalem Film Festival.

Pitch Point was started with the aim of creating a secure and fruitful environment for dialogue between filmmakers currently working on films, film industry people and the general public. This framework reflects the broader aim of the Festival: to promote and foster filmmaking in Israel in a variety of ways, alongside the Israeli film competitions, special screenings outside the competition, master classes and international encounters involving the Israeli film industry.

At Pitch Point this year 11 promising and fascinating scripts of feature-length Israeli dramas in pre-production phases will be presented to the international jury of the competition. In addition, for the first time in the Pitch Point framework, a separate competition will be held that will include the presentation of 5 projects in advanced production. The Pitch Point events will close with a day of workshops and master classes conducted by our international film industry guests.

I would like to thank our partners in Pitch PointKatriel Schori, director of the Israel Film Fund, Yoram honig, director of the Jerusalem Film & Television Fund, and the prize donors: Arte, cNc and the Van leer Foundation. Many thanks to the esteemed jury members of the competition for their participation and heartfelt gratitude to elad Goldman, director of Pitch Point, for his professional work, and to all the staff members involved, who seek to provide the best possible platform for Israeli filmmakers and their works.

We invite you to take an active part in the many Festival events and wish you an enjoyable and successful Pitch Point.

    greetings

    dear friends and colleagues,

We are delighted to welcome the guests and participants of the 9th Jerusalem Pitch Point at the Jerusalem International Film Festival.

In recent years, opportunities for co-productions and collaborations between Israeli and international producers have significantly increased. We continued to see the realization of Israeli films created through co-productions, mainly with european partners.

The aim of the Jerusalem Pitch Point is to create a forum for Israeli filmmakers to meet with key members of the european film industry, and to encourage and promote international co-productions for Israeli initiated full-length narrative feature films.

Over the course of two days, the Jerusalem Pitch Point will become the place where old and new friends, colleagues, and partners, meet to discuss new ideas and initiatives from Israel and abroad.

We hope that the projects selected will raise interest and find partners, and we eagerly look forward to the production of the films, and to their screening on the big screen. We are especially proud that a number of the projects presented at the past Jerusalem Pitch Points have found partners, and have been co-produced. One of them, lebanon, won the prestigious Golden lion Award in Venice 2009.

I wish to express my deep thanks to ARTe France and the cNc for their support and partnership. I would like to specially thank our guests from europe and North America who have accepted our invitation to meet the Israeli filmmakers and get to know the Israeli film industry.

We are delighted to welcome you as members of our Pitch Point family.

    Katriel Schory

    dear Friends,

On behalf of the Jerusalem Film and Television fund at the Jerusalem development Authority, Im proud to greet the participants and the producers of the 9th Pitch Point taking place in The Jerusalem Film Festival with a warm welcome.

To us, the Pitch Point mission is vital. it is another step towards turning Jerusalem into a key venue in the cinematic discourse in Israel and overseas and this joins the revolution on the local and international screens that the Jerusalem Film and Television fund, the first and leading regional film fund in Israel, has created.Over the past five years more than 50 feature films and television dramas were produced in Jerusalem and gained worldwide recognition and prizes at leading film festivals around the world.

We do hope that soon, your screenplays will evolve into significant feature films. We are proud to support the PitchPoint and the Jerusalem International Film Fetival and its important role in your professional and artistic journey.

    greetings

The Yehoshua Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts, cinema Project greets the guests and participants of the ninth Pitch Point at the Jerusalem Film Festival. The foundation is proud to be a partner in the production of many of the films participating in this years Pitch Point, as it was in many of the successful participating films of past events.

The process of fundraising for production is, on the one hand, one of the less familiar aspects of production to the general public, and occasionally even to filmmakers themselves. At the same time, it is one of the most important aspects, if not the most important. Fundraising is virtually impossible without personal, face to face contact and without a direct verbal presentation of the film to potential investors. In this sense, the Pitch Point provides a golden opportunity to Israeli full-length feature films. Moreover, aside from the aim of fundraising, the personal encounter has the added value of enabling Israeli filmmakers to hear the views of potential investors from abroad, thus providing them with a better understanding of the desires and needs of foreign audiences and, occasionally, even offers a refreshing perspective on the film itself, from a new and unfamiliar point of view.

We hope that the ninth Pitch Point will continue, as it has in the past, to aid the Israeli film industry in achieving success in Israel and abroad and wish the filmmakers taking part success and fruitful encounters.

    Sincerely,

Giora einidirector, Yehoshua Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts, Tel Aviv

synopsisRachel Strode is a young American woman with a dark secret in her past, who comes to Israel in the Fall of 1973 to volunteer in a kibbutz and then to convert to Judaism. Soon, she realizes that the local Kibbutz members dont seem to like strangers and foreigners, and that the evening of Yom Kippur (the most important holiday for Jews) will bring danger to her and her young volunteering friends. It is a horror film with a strong social conscience, a film that brings strong drama and character development into the bloody genre, with a clear intention to give the audience things to think about - once all the screams and chills are over. Shooting the film on 1:2.35 Anamorphic lenses, in real old fashioned and eerie locations, with a mixed cast of seasoned industry veterans and young up and comers - all that will bring a new experience to the horror genre: an original Israeli horror film that does not hold back, both in its horror ingredients and its social commentary about racism, scars of war, and hope.

directors biographyArik Rotstein (47) is an Israeli TV writer and director. he is a graduate of the Sam Spiegel Film School. he created Dakot shel tehila, a drama series for channel 2, and Yeladot raot, a daily drama for the Israeli music channel. he wrote and directed the 3rd season of the celebrated drama Florentine. Over 4 seasons he wrote 18 episodes of the award winning drama shabatot ve hagim. he wrote and directed 11 episodes of the wildly subversive comedy 5 Men and a Wedding for channel 10. his recent works have been directing the first season of the TV drama another life, and the pilot for the comedy series Yom haem (mothers day), which aired last year on Israeli channel 2 (Keshet).

directors STATMENT3G is a comic-tragic story about the unconscious influence of the holocaust on the second and third generation of Israelis that, like radiation, is unseen but whose damage can be very real. By telling an up-to-date entertaining story, with a typical Israeli family, easy to identify characters, and a sweeping storyline, the movie deals with complex ideas about intergenerational transfer. hopefully, it will shed some light on the unconscious post-traumatic forces that are shaping our reality. The movie is based on a true personal story.

synopsisA bold re-imagining of the classic Greek myth, Minotaur features a Palestinian man in a complex double-role: he is both the hero Theseus, and his own nemesis, the threatening Minotaur. But this is a Minotaur who speaks only in hebrew, and the Israeli Jews within the story appear primarily as oppressors. Yet it is Ariadne, who appears to be a Jewish woman, who uses her powerful knowledge to help Theseus overcome the Minotaur. combining horror, fairy tale and contemporary neo-realism and set in Jerusalems Old city as a modern day labyrinth, Minotaur conjures a radical new vision of hope in the Middle east.

directors biographycalled brilliant, one of the most provocative artists in film today by the los Angeles Times, Nina Menkes has shown her work widely in major international film festivals including Sundance, locarno, the Berlinale, Toronto, Rotterdam and cannes, as well as at la cinematheque Franaise, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and MOMA in New York city. her many honors include a los Angeles Film critics Association Award for her first feature Magdalena Viraga, a FIPReScI Award for Massaker at the Berlinale, and the Anat Pirchi Award for Best drama at the 2010 Jerusalem International Film Festival for her first hebrew language feature, Dissolution. In 2012 retrospectives of her work were presented in los Angeles, New York city, and Berlin, Germany.

directors STATMENTMINOTAuR, clearly, is about the political conflict: set in Jerusalem, where the stone streets have seen thousands of years of violence, a blood-thirsty monster kills young men and women, spreading terror throughout the land. The central character is constructed to question the accepted separation between Arab and Jew; my radical premise: we are one soul. last but not least is the psychological meaning. Alienated pain and violence resides in each one of us - a poison which must be confronted, struggled withand finally transformed on an internal, individual basis. Theseuss struggle with the Minotaur is hereby morphed into a liberating cry for an end to violence: a cinematic prayer for peace in the tortured, sacred holy city.

Alon served as chief writer and content developer at Israels channel 10 commercial TV station (2008-2009), chief writer and content editor for the Israel childrens channel (2009-2011) and director and script editor for the logi (Science and Technology for children) channel (2011-2012). he has directed and written scripts for various television series, including the Israeli version of sesame street (hop childrens channel), and the sitcom amila (hOT cable).

directors STATMENTMossad belongs to the zany parody genre, like Blazing saddles or airplane that target the sacred cows of culture and film. What I believe to be common to all successful comedies in this genre is a powerful, complete underlying story that could also serve as the basis for an authentic drama. In the realities of contemporary Israel, security is paramount and Mossad agents benefit from huge budgets and unrestricted activity. Nevertheless, believe it or not, this intelligence agency also includes many people who want to go home at 5:00 PM daily. I decided to conduct an experiment and directed a 40 film as a warm-up for a full-length feature. The award-winning result was seen by a paying audience of 55,000.

directors biographyTal Goldberg is a professional Israeli screenwriter and director. he has written and directed the 90 minute action-comedy feature film oMG, im a robot! and offscreen, a TV comedy. Tal has worked with many Israeli A-listers such as Tzahi Grad, dror Keren, Michael Mushonov, Yuval Segev and others. offscreen was bought by hot VOd and later was adapted as a web-series by Walla. The show has won many awards in television and web series festivals. The feature film oMG, im a robot! is currently in post- production stages. These days Tal works as a director and screenwriter at srutonim, a video production company. In addition, he dedicates his free time to developing original ideas for film and television.

directors STATMENTThe film is about uris attempt to fix up his life and become independent. The majority of my generation is in a similar situation: the financial crisis causes young adults to abandon their big dreams, and many return to live with their parents and are financially dependent on them. The conflict between uri and Shoshi represents the eternal battle between parents and children. The struggle is temporary, as our parents wont live forever. Yet it is also never-ending because even after our parents pass, we will continue to argue with them in our minds. ultimately, it is hard to watch our parents growing old. The notion that one day they will pass away adds to the anxiety many sense that life isnt all its cracked up to be.

directors STATMENTI tend towards eccentric rom-coms, though I detest romance and am a terrible cynic. For many years I mentored and directed short films made by mentally ill people. neils is based on these experiences and encompasses all of my obsessions; the things that bother me, and the things that make me laugh. Its important that this film be funny. Making people laugh is my battle for self-respect; making them cry is begging for pity. I wanted characters that are chemically and emotionally unbalanced. They dont undergo any epiphanies, and the adventures they go on are small, and occasionally pathetic. Their dreams are bound to fail, but because I do love a good rom-com, they do emerge. Theyve met one another.

directors STATMENTno Blood is a story about a guy who goes after an impossible fantasy only to find that what he was looking for might be very near and available. In a broader sense, though, no Blood is a story about borders; the existence of borders, the absence of borders, the crossing of borders; borders of the state, of the heart, of friendship. Borders between the psyche of the individual and the psyche of the nation. living in a constant state of survival, have we internalized the national narrative so thoroughly we can no longer distinguish? In a totalitarian society the answer would be awful but simple. In a thriving democracy this very question can be unnerving, confusing, and breed fantasy and paranoia, both personal and political. While following the plot, the humor, the passion, the drama, the intricate fragile stories of love and loyalty between the characters, this fundamental dramatic question remains open: is this a love affair or a national security affair?

synopsisIn 1977, on the eve of President Anwar Sadats visit to Jerusalem, Tirza Atar, 36, poet and author, mother of two small children, jumped to her death from her apartment window. The daughter of Israels national poet Nathan Alterman and actress Rachel Marcus, she spent her life trying to establish herself as a poet in her own right. The film, set around the final day of Tirzas life, focuses on her relationship with her father, who carried on a long, tormented affair with painter Tsila Binder. Alterman represented Israels cultural elite in the 1960s and 1970s: authors, artists, and poets responsible for Israels inalienable artistic assets, enriching the nation, but also bringing a heavy weight to bear upon their children.

At first there was a black and white photo; a woman holding her beautiful face, sadness emanating from her eyes. Then there were the poems, wonderful and deep, happy and sad. long before reality stars became cultural heroes, poets were the true celebrities. I have been intertwined with the character of Tirza Atar for the last two years, trying to decipher her delicate, lyrical soul, which never found its place in the world. A woman who had everything and nothing at the same time. A woman in the shadow of her father, the nations poet, a woman who could not tolerate the darkness and chose to end her pain.

In each story, the encounter with Neta will have an impact on the female protagonists, as they will also have an impact. Special Jury Prize (Silver leopard Prize) in locarno Film Festival.

directors STATMENTThe cinematic language of my film will be integrated in several styles of photography, which collectively will form a unified sense of atmosphere. The general style of the film Why elephant is scheduled to be shot during winter, a visual representation of the characters state of mind. This includes the urban landscapes as well as the vistas of the Golan heights. This will illustrate the level of confusion and non-military preparedness vis--vis the Israeli macho male ethic. By the end of the film, Amnon becomes an 80s rockstar. This part will be filmed with a lot of shots with motion and a strong flavor of rock-n-roll. At the same time I shall strive to represent an alternative picture of reality in Israel in the 2000s.

directors STATMENTA dP camp in Germany is not the most comic and romantic place, but it is where Yulias Film, a romantic comedy, takes place. After the war, concentration camp refugees rose from the ashes and loss. Yulia is one of these survivors. created from many stories, newsreels and testimonies of residents of the dP camps. Yulia is making a documentary while trying to become a woman again: the film is that documentary, accompanied by her voice over because she cannot record. The sounds and dialogues emerge when her imagination works, not her camera. The film floats between a lens, real footage and the fictive - imagined- scenes inspired by hollywood in the 40s. captured is every drop of sarcasm and pain of this elusive story and history.

directors STATMENTJerusalem is a city where historical nations and people battle. Yet the hospital there is a space where people only want to recover and where conflicts are set aside. It is the natural setting for a plot exploring the question of what is so important about our religious or national identity. As a filmmaker who grew up in a conservative, religious household, I chose to tell the story through the eyes of Bina, Meir, and Amal, with the closed eyes of Oliel connecting them. The closed, nonjudgmental eyes succeed in bringing the parents closer to one another and to their son and opening up their eyes through Amal, a young Arab woman who just wants to be free and loved.

directors STATMENTour economic situation. An urban, existential fantasy describing the old neighborhoods of haifa on the slopes of Mt. carmel from the port upward. The film does this via two characters, an ex-teacher and his ex-pupil, who move toward each other. One from the top down, the other from the foot of the mountain upward. The main spaces of the film are dozens of stairs built into the mountain slope. Some are ancient, others are newer. The atmosphere and magic, urbanism and nature, the co-existence or lack thereof, the sunset, the decay, the existential forces in this area all serve as a point of departure and inspiration. It draws upon the approaches and inspiration of Altman, Kurosawa, Kiarostami, Perlov, Kishon and the non-cinematic inspiration of e. hillel, dylan Thomas, Beckett.

directors STATMENTBeing different is a subject that has concerned me for as long as I can remember. It has followed me from a young age and I know it inside-out. 17 years ago my brother was diagnosed with a post-trauma disorder, resulting from his military service in lebanon. This created a major crisis in my family. All of us, and especially my parents had to deal with a new and unfamiliar reality. Their beloved son returned from the army broken and now they have to care for him like a small child. Since then, my brother has had difficulty coming to terms with his disability. This is the story from which the script evolved.
