Tim Jackson and David Kahn cofounded Jackson

Kahn Design in 2009. With the addition of good

friend and associate Scott Hoffman in 2012,

Jackson Kahn Design strengthened our team approach.

Our educational backgrounds in Agronomy, Landscape

Architecture and Mathematics, nearly $500,000,000

in project experience, and a direct hand in many award

winning designs allows us to bring a confident ability

to perform on projects both small and large. Having

completed $100,000 remodels to $35,000,000 new

designs, Jackson Kahn Design has brought a wide range

of projects from conception to completion. Our focus on

the needs of the client drives our philosophy and directs

our efforts. Our ability to communicate design concepts

and then spend the time in the dirt refining and improving

those ideas is the core of our company. In the short time

since our inception, Jackson Kahn Design has earned the

opportunity to be a part of many extraordinary projects.

Our goal for the restoration of Sunnylands focused on

rebuilding the golf course features that defined the

Sunnylands experience for the Annenbergs and their

guests. Our research included reviewing historic images of aerials

and routing plans, historic photographs, interviews with those

who worked on the original construction, and physical inspection

of the current site and its features. What we learned from these

efforts enabled us to create a detailed “road map” in restoring

the aesthetic and physical design features of the golf course at

Sunnylands. The implementation of the “road map” has included

a significant amount of preparation and field work with the golf

contractor. Rediscovering and reshaping the green complexes,

bunkers and tees to original dimensions has re-established the

character and scale of the golf course. The end result will reaffirm

the strength and interest of the original Dick Wilson design and

allow the course to be experienced as originally intended and

envisioned by Walter and Leonore Annenberg.

JKD has been privileged to assist Bob Parsons in

making refinements and improvements to the

original course at Scottsdale National. With

revisions to the 15th and 18th holes in the summer of

2014, we are helping to fulfill Mr. Parsons’ continued

commitment to invest in upgrades to the property to

the benefit of his membership and their guests. We

are truly privileged to have the opportunity to work

alongside an owner whose only directive is to simply

make it the best!v

PRONGHORNThe land on which Pronghorn sits is an ancient

field of lava. Weathered by time, and covered

in juniper, sage, and bunch grass, the property

dictated the entire design of the course. Sand

capping all of the turf areas allowed for impeccable

conditioning, which contrasts perfectly with the native

transition bunkering. The key at Pronghorn is how well

the course blends into it’s surrounding environment.

It is difficult to tell where golf stops and high Oregon

desert begins.

One of the three pillars of George Thomas’s Los

Angeles designs of the 1920’s, Bel Air Country

Club stands as one of the most iconic golf clubs

in America. In conjunction with Tom Fazio, Jackson

Kahn Design has been working closely with the club,

and superintendent Brian Sullivan, in recovering lost

design characteristics and enacting improvements to

the property as well. Given the rich tradition of the

course and club, we feel very fortunate in having the

opportunity to assist in the work. Bel Air is truly one

of the special places in golf.

The Master Plan project at Shady Canyon is

focused on refining minor elements of the

course design. Working alongside the greens

committee and membership to identify the strategic

and aesthetic improvements has been an enjoyable

and rewarding process. It is always interesting to

understand how an original design evolves from

opening, and which areas can be improved upon to

further the enjoyment for the club. We look forward to

implementing the adjustments over the next several

years, and helping Shady Canyon further elevate its

status as one of southern California’s premier private

golf clubs.
