Youth Leader Spotlight: Cassandra Armas Living in a small town and working in the nonprofit industry, I often hear EagleCounty's youth complain that there are limited volunteer opportunities to engage ourcommunity. Besides skiing and snowboarding, many local high school students seekalternative activities that spur future career interest, inspire global awareness andsimply contribute to the wellbeing of their neighbors.

Cassandra Armas, a recent graduate ofEagle Valley High School has thisapproach to life and consistently puts theneeds of others as a priority in her busyschedule. In addition to excelling in theclassroom, Cassandra was a member ofmany EVHS student clubs, includingstudent government, LULAC (League ofUnited Latin American Citizens), CycleEffect, band (piano/guitar) and the soccerteam. A highlight of her studentgovernment tenure was their trip toDenver's Ronald McDonald House and theChildren's Hospital. She remarks, "The

experience taught me that volunteering comes in different ways. It can be cleaning alocal park or talking to kids who are going through a rough time and making themforget about their illness for a little while." She has been a student ambassador for theYouth Foundation and currently coaches their summer soccer program. She has alsobeen a dedicated volunteer for the town of Eagle's annual Cinco de Mayo festivaland helps with the event's student activities.
