In mancanza di tecnologie avanzate, gli antichi avevano trovato la soluzione alle loro comunicazioni a distanza: i piccioni viaggiatori. Ma come funzionava realmente? L’uo-mo è riuscito a sfruttare una capacità innata di questi ani-mali, ovvero quella di trovare sempre la strada di casa. Ogni volta che i piccioni vengono allontanati dal proprio nido infatti, mettono in atto tre diverse strategie per ritornarvi: l’olfatto, riconoscendo l’odore del posto familiare; la vista, che consente loro di memorizzare delle caratteristiche del paesaggio di casa; e una sorta di bussola interna che li rende capaci di misurare il campo magnetico terrestre. E così una volta scambiate le colonie di piccioni, si avevano a disposi-zione tanti messaggi da mandare quanti colombi.

Sarebbe bello schiacciare un pisolino quando e dove capita, anche in piedi se serve! E’ così che fanno i cavalli, chiudendo gli occhi e restando su quattro zampe. Ma come ci riescono? Le fasce muscolari presenti nelle zampe sono strutturate in modo da bilanciare i movimenti delle articolazioni, con-sentendo loro di reggere il peso dell’animale e mantenendo quest’ultimo in equilibrio con il minimo sforzo. Un vero e proprio asso nella manica per gli erbivori. Questa particolare caratteristica infatti consente all’animale di stare sempre sull’attenti, pronto alla fuga in caso di pericolo. Tuttavia è bene ricordare che si tratta di una forma di riposo e non di un sonno profondo. Ecco perché per la cosiddetta fase REM anche i cavalli hanno bisogno di sdraiarsi.

I bambini piccoli si sa hanno molta fantasia, ecco perché spesso si sentono sorprendenti interpretazioni degli eventi quotidiani. Uno studio condotto in America, dimostra che dai 3 ai 5 anni i bambini pensano che le feste di complean-no in realtà siano la causa l’invecchiamento. Nei due studi i ricercatori hanno analizzato i concetti di “età”, “invecchia-mento” e “compleanno” coinvolgendo circa un centinaio di bambini nello studio. Ricerche precedenti avevano mostrato che i bambini in età prescolare comprendono che tutti gli esseri viventi crescono e che la crescita è un processo biologico naturale. E così spegnere le candeline ad ogni compleanno per loro, i cuccioli d’uomo, sarebbe un chiaro segnale di invecchiamento!

I ricercatori del MIT hanno fatto un enorme passo avanti nella loro ricerca per dare luce e far brillare le piante che brillano nell’oscurità una realtà. Alle Plant Nanobionics gli ingegneri hanno incorporato nanoparticelle nelle foglie di una pianta di crescione, permettendo alle piante di emanare un bagliore fioco per tre ore e mezza. Il loro prossimo scopo è creare piante di luce da illuminare uno spazio di lavoro. Il team vorrebbe proget-tare piante che possano sostituire molte delle funzioni attual-mente eseguite da apparecchiature elettriche e infatti hanno realizzato piante che brillano per un attivazione a 3,5 ore. “L’idea è quella di realizzare una pianta che funzioni come una lampada da scrivania che non devi collegare” - ha dichiarato Michael Strano, Professore di ingegneria chimica al Mit.

A survey reveals that in the US 3 to 5 years old children believe that birthday parties are the reason why you get old. In this two surveys the scientists processed the concepts of age, aging and birthdays by involving about one hundred children between 3-5 years of age . Previous surveys had shown that pre-school- age children understand that all living beings grow up and that growing up is a natural biological process. Proprio Leal ha voluto che per il 2019 fosse concluso il restauro del Campidoglio, dopo otto anni di lavori, ma ha anche annunciato che sarà recuperata pure la scuola in cui ha studiato il padre dell’indipendenza, José Martí, considerato sull’isola “l’apostolo di Cuba”.“Sapessi com’è bella la mattina presto all’Avana” ripeteva Hemingway passeggiando per la Città vecchia. L’incanto del Malecon, lungomare delle emozioni e delle memorie antiche, con le case che guardano l’Oceano e esibiscono sfacciate la loro bellezza, due o tre piani dipinti con quei colori pastello che addolciscono lo sguardo e la vita. L’Avana colpisce, scatena emo-zioni, commuove, perfino. Basta andare alla Bodeguita del Medio dove Ernest Hemingway alle-viava le sue pene: il mojito con l’erba buena potrà anche non

“Lo mas grande”. Così L’Avana si festeggia e celebra i suoi 500 anni. Che potrebbero non sembrare molti

ad un occhio europeo, abituato a millenni di storia, ma che per il Caribe sono moltissimi: qui la Storia cominciò allora. Era il 1515 quando il conquistador spagnolo Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar approdò nella baia e fece costruire i primi alloggiamenti. Quattro anni dopo la città cominciò a svilupparsi intorno alla posizione attuale, a Baia Care-nas. Era, appunto, il 1519.

L’Avana è una delicata signora, bisognosa di molte attenzioni. I programmi di restauro sono stati ambiziosi, enormi, e nell’ultimo anno sono state completate 16.000 opere edilizie che rispondono a più di 7.000 richieste degli abitanti della città. E’ stato compiuto un autentico miracolo di bellezza, con un’idea guida sempre rispettata: mantenere il centro storico come era, abitato da chi ci è sempre vissuto, però migliorandone le condizioni di vita, aggiustando sia le case che le infrastrutture. Seen by a European point of view this could seem not, used as they are to thousands of ye-ars of history, a very long time. But for Caribe this is a really really long period of time . Hi-story starts back then , here . It wsa 1515 when the Spanish conquistador Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar touched the Bay and started the building of the first lodgements. Four years later the city started to grow around the actual position, Baia Carenas. stato così sul set. E il pubblico ha imparato ad amarlo proprio per questo, dalla magistrale e fortunata interpretazione di Aragorn, fino all’ultimissimo trionfo al Toronto International Film Festival. Da lì Viggo e la nuova pellicola che lo vede protagonista “Green Book”, ne sono usciti con il premio più ambito, il Grolsh People’s Choice, la scel-ta del pubblico per lo appunto. Un grande ritorno dunque, un ritorno da re, per dirla con le parole di Tolkien.

TUTTO NACQUE DA ARAGORNPiacere, Viggo Mortensen, Aragorn per gli amici. Potrebbe presentar-si così il bell’attore statunitense e danese d’adozione. Perché in fondo la notorietà e l’indiscussa fama è nata proprio da lì, dalla compagnia dell’anello che si riunì a Gran Burrone. Aragorn fece la sua prima ap-parizione in quell’occasione, per poi traghettare un’intera trilogia che ha tenuto col fiato sospeso milioni di fan. Difficile trovare qualcuno che non abbia visto il Signore degli Anelli; ancora più complicato tro-vare pareri negativi su una pellicola che ha fatto la storia del cinema moderno, aggiudicandosi ben 17 Oscar. Mortensen è stato il protago-nista della saga, il successo poi è venuto da sé. E pensare che quando Peter Jackson lo chiamò per assegnargli la parte, lui non sapeva nulla né del capolavoro di Tolkien né del genere fantasy. Perché accettò la parte del suo Aragorn? Per non deludere il figlio Henry, fan sfegatato della trilogia, e che all’epoca aveva solo 11 anni. “Ma sei matto? Devi assolutamente farlo!”. Una richiesta che fece da volano alla carriera di Viggo. Della serie: dietro un grande uomo c’è sempre un grande figlio!

NON SOLO SUL SETMortensen stupisce sempre, e non solo sul set. L’attore infatti ha mille passioni, tante quante sono le sue sfaccettature. Una fra tutte: è stato il chitarrista dei Guns N’ Roses, il celebre gruppo hard rock america-no che fece la storia della musica statunitense a cavallo degli anni ’80 e ’90. Viggo abbraccia la chitarra, ma accarezza anche il pianoforte. “Ho sempre amato la musica e il suo suono.E’ un modo diverso di comunicare. È il viaggio in una foresta in cui non sono mai stato e che non vedrò mai più. Amo la purezza di tutto ciò”. Per questo ha realizzato diversi album con il chitarrista Buche-thead. Una musica, la loro, che nasce sul momento dice Viggo, senza la necessità di pianificare nulla.

CITTADINO DEL MONDOCresciuto tra il Venezuela e l’Argentina, di sangue per metà danese e per metà statunitense. Non importa se Viggo Mortensen sia nato a Manhattan, lui è uno di quelli che si può semplicemente definire: cittadino del mondo. Motivo per il quale parla cinque lingue, l’inglese, il danese, lo spagnolo, il francese e il russo.Per l’attore, essere poliglotti non è solo una caratteristica stimabile, ma un antidoto, contro l’odio e il razzismo: “Credo che viaggiare tanto mi abbia aiutato fisicamente e mentalmente, è la miglior arma contro le guerre: quando sei stato in un luogo e sai che ci sono fami-glie, scuole, chiese, cinema, gente normale, è difficile che chi governa ti convinca a sostenere un progetto distruttivo”. IT ALL STARTED WITH ARAGORNNice to meet you, Viggo Mortensen, “Aragorn “ to my friends. This could be the right way to introduce himself, for the gorgeous american- danish actor. Potrebbe presentarsi così il bell’attore statunitense e danese d’adozione.After all, his notoriety and undi-sputed fame cane right from there, from the Rings company that met at Rivendell. It was there that Aragorn first appare, and then continued along the whole Trilogy that kept in suspense million of fans. Indeed, it’s hard to find just one person who didn’t follow the “ Lord of Rings”. And even harder is fin-ding someone who did not appreciate the movie that made history in the modern movie world, winning 17 Oscars . Mortensen has been the Star of the Saga, and the success followed right after. Can you imagine that when Peter Jackson called the actor to cast him in the role, Mortensen knew absolutely nothing ab out the Tolkien’ masterpiece or the Fantasy genre. So, why did he accept the role? Easy: to please his son Henry, avid fan of the Trilogy degli Anelli and who was at that time just 11 years old. “ are you crazy? You absolutely have to accept it!”. And this was the

flywheel of Viggo’s career. Let’s say it: behind a great Man there is always a great Son !

NON SOLO SUL SETMortensen is always a surprise, not only on Set. In fact the actor has thousands of passion, just like his facets. One among the many others: he’s been the guitar player of the Band Gun N Roses , the famous hard-rock group, the legacy og American music of the years between the 80’s and 90’s. vengono prima realizzati con il procedimento a cera per-sa con un prototipo che poi si trasformerà in metallo.

STONEHENGEQui il bronzo e l’argento si impreziosiscono con gli zirconi. Tutto torna alle origini, con una linea ruvida che predilige l’irregolarità. Chi non ha mai detto di voler trascorrere il resto della propria vita a Santo Domingo. Un’oasi di pace, chia-

mata così da Bartolomeo Colombo (fratello di Cristoforo) in onore del padre Domenico. Un territorio che ha rap-presentato la prima colonia spagnola del Nuovo Mondo. Con oltre 500 anni di storia, Santo Domingo (che tra il 1930 e il 1961 si chiamò Ciudad Trujillo prendendo il nome dal vecchio presidente) rappresenta un paradiso terrestre.

I PAESAGGIConosciuta per il suo mare cristallino che viene invaso da turisti di tutto il mondo, Santo Domingo ha i suoi fondali più belli nella zona di Cabo Cabron, nella penisola di Sa-manà. Lì, però, bisogna stare attenti alle murene. Vicino

all’Isla Saona, invece, c’è la zona “abitata” dalle stelle ma-rine. Da qualche anno cominciano a essere un po’ meno: i turisti hanno imparato a conoscere la zona e hanno saccheggiato i fondali portandosele via. Un souvenir per molti, ma non per gli abitanti del posto. E proprio molti dei visitatori, in un secondo momento diventano cittadini dominicani. Oltre agli Haitiani, che rappresentano la più grande comunità di non dominicani del posto, libanesi, cinesi, brasiliani e portoricani (soprattutto questi ultimi) raggiungono il 20% della popolazione del territorio.

Living the rest of your life in Santo Domingo is a common desire. It’ s an oasis of peace. It was

given the name by Bartolomeo Colombo ( Cristoforo’s brother) to honour his father. This area represented the first Spanish Colony in the New World. Santo Domingo, more than 500 years of history ( from 1930 t0 1961 was called Ciudad Trujillo, taking the name of the President) looks like heaven on earth.

THE LANDASCAPESSanto Domingo, renowned for its crystal-clear sea, attracts tourists from all over the world. Its most beau-tiful seabeds are in the Cabo Cabron area, in Samanà Peninsula. Still, in this area, you have to be more than careful because of the presence of morays, while near the Isla Saona the seabeds are “home “ to the Sea stars even though in the last years their presence decreased: in fact a number of tourists who know this area very well, ransaked the seabeds taking the Sea stars away. Besides the Haitian people, representing the biggest commu-nity of foreigners in Santo Domingo, the number of people who moved here from Lebanon, China, Brazil and Portorico ( the last ones most of all) reach the 20% of the Area population

RITUALSPeople from Haiti, moving here, took with them their traditional voodoo rituals, and today Santo Domingo is also famous for these ceremonies. The Spirits, cal-led Iwa, are evoked with song and dance. Some people find this experience mystic, but there are others who

remain dazzled anche. Right. But there are some kind of dance that are part of Dominican people life since birth, and are not that spiritual,. Like the merengue, that is taught to children since their first years of life. The tradition of swinging your hips, and living the mu-sic with an empathy probably unknown anywhere else in the world, comes from the times of Dominican’s sla-very. This reminds the way slaves with chains on legs walked. For sure, if you are able to reach the “roof” of the Caribbean you don’t have chains on your legs: 3175 mt high, a place from where you can see all the beauty of the Island. It’s the Pico Duarte, the main mountain chain of the Area. From the top you can see either the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Seeing dawn from there is a breathtaking experience.And you can have that chanche, as going to bed before that time is almost impossibile..

Un paese vasto che ricopre buona parte dell’America Centrale, dalla Bassa California allo Yucatan e si estende fino al Chiapas. Il Messico era anticamente abitato da una delle più misteriose civiltà del passato: i Maya. Le vestigia dei templi e delle città maya, come la meravigliosa Kukulcàn, una delle straordinarie piramidi nel sito archeologico di Chichen Itzà, sono disseminate su una vasta parte del territorio messicano e nei nostri itinerari si visitano alcuni di questi importanti siti. LA DANZA DELLE BALENE

Cabo Pulmo non è l’unico punto dove passano le balene. Anche Bahia Magdalena, raggiungibile da Loreto, la laguna di San Ignazio, a 61 Km da San Ignacio, la laguna Ojo de Liebre, nei pressi di Guerrero Negro, sono altri punti importanti di riproduzione delle balene grigie. Da Gennaio ad Aprile, circa 17000 mila cetacei passano da queste parti. Arrivano dalle fredde acque del Mar di Bering e, dopo un viaggio di quasi 6000 km, si fermano nelle acque calde della Baja per portare a termine la gravidanza ed è un emozione grandissima vederle affiorare e respirare.

Pixar: a Roma arrivano i cartoni

Il mondo Pixar “30 anni di animazione” sbarca a Roma. Un vero e proprio viaggio negli Studios, e nell’universo creativo della Pixar che approda a Roma nella bella cor-nica di Palazzo delle Esposizione fino al 20 gennaio 2019. Saranno ben 400 opere tra disegni, bozzetti, sculture, collage e storyboard. Da Toy Story in poi l’animazione ha scoperto l’accesso ad un universo fantastico dalle possibilità creative inesauribili e ha raggiunto con la grafica computerizzata, una stupefacente resa emotiva e percettiva nelle immagini. Il percorso espositivo propone una chiave di lettura basata sui concetti di personaggio, storia e mondo, tre elementi fondamentali per realizza-re un grande film. Da una parte alla ricerca digitale, la costruzione di ogni produzione Pixar porta avanti una sorprendente ricerca artigianale ad opera artisti, creativi, attori, scenografi, sceneggiatori. Il tutto arricchito da due installazioni spettacolari, l’Artscape e lo Zoetrope, che con la tecnologia digitale fanno rivivere le opere esposte e la magia dell’animazione stessa.

After the successful exhibition “ Dento Caravaggio” ( “Inside Caravaggio) a new exhibition of the artist work has been opened at the Museo Permanente in Milan. The nuova mostra dedicata al pittore: Caravaggio. Beyo nd the canvas: the immersive exhibition. This is an extraordinary multimedia ex-perience, unprecedented and original, a sort of telling complementary to the previous great exhibition, that goes through, thanks to the scientific experti-se of Rossella Vodret and with the patronage of the Italian Ministry for Cul-ture and Tourism, the life and work of the great artist. This project has been made because of is really impossibile to move and show “live” the masterpie-ces that make you under stand the real genius of Merisi. Essential works like the painting of the Cappella Contarelli at San Luigi dei Francesi, those at the Cappella Cerasi in Santa Maria del Popolo, not to mention the master-piece now eexposed at the Louvre, extremely frail, such as the outrageous “ Morte della Vergine”- that was paintedb to be posed on the altar of Santa Maria della Scala but rejected by the contractors And again, the mural of the Gabinetto Alchemico of the Casino Ludovisi, or the giantic painting “ a Decollazine del Battista”, kept in the Concattedrale of La Valletta, in Malta, for which Caravaggio was awarded with the Croce di Malta; or the Medusa kept at the Museum degli Uffizi, in Florence and many others Thanks to the use of videomapping , these masterpieces will be presented in their integrity and will give the visitor the possibilità to see them in the way that the artist originally conceived them .

Pixar: cartoons land in Rome

The world of Pixar, “30 years of animation”, lands in Rome Il mondo Pixar “30 anni di animazione” sbarca a Roma. It is a real journey in the Studios and the Pixar creative Universe, that will arrive in Rome , in the wonderful frame of Palazzo delle Esposizioni and will stop there till January 20th 2019.400 works ( drawings, sketches, sculpture, collages and storyboards) will be exposed . Starting with Toy Story animatiotion discovered the access to a fantastic Universe with inexhaustible creative possibilities and with the digital art work reached an amazing return in emotional and perception of the images . The exhibition proposes a gateway based on the concepts of character, history and world, the three basic ele-ments to make a great movie. Startin with the digital research, Pixar moves forward with a surprising craft research, made by artists, creatives, actors, screen-players, art directors. In addition to these you find two spectacular installations, the Artscape and the Zoetrope, that, thanks to the digital technologies give life to the exposed pieces and the magico f animation in itself.

Dopo il successo della mostra Dentro Caravaggio, è stata inaugurata, al Museo della Permanente di Milano, una nuova mostra dedicata al pittore: Caravaggio. Oltre la tela: La mostra immersiva. Una straordi-naria esperienza multimediale originale e inedita che vuole essere una sorta di racconto complementare della grande esposizione che l’ha preceduta, ripercorrendo, con la consulenza scientifica di Rossella Vodret e il Patrocinio del Ministero dei Beni e le Attività Culturali e del Turismo, le tappe della vita e dell’opera dell’artista. Il progetto di Caravaggio nasce infatti dall’oggettiva impossibilità di mostrare dal vivo capolavori inamovibili ma indispensabili per capire realmente il genio del Merisi. Opere fondamentali come i quadri della Cappella Contarelli a San Luigi dei Francesi o della Cappella Cerasi a Santa Maria del Popolo, così come le opere del Louvre, estremamente fragili, come la scandalosa Morte della Vergine - dipinta per essere posizionata sull’altare di Santa Maria della Scala a Roma e rifiutata dai committenti – e ancora il dipinto murale del Gabinetto Alche-mico del casino Ludovisi o la gigantesca tela con la Decollazione del Battista conservata nella Concattedrale de La Valletta a Malta, che valse a Caravaggio la Croce di Malta, o la Medusa conservata agli Uffizi e tanti altri ancora. Grazie all’utilizzo del video mapping, tali opere verranno presentate nella loro integralità architettonica dando la possibilità al visitatore di fruirle così come inizialmente concepite dall’artista.

Gli Smashing Pumpkins sono a lavoro su un nuovo album, Shiny and oh so brigh, che uscirà a novembre. Alcune indiscrezioni ci confermano dalla stessa band che c’è stata un’anticipazione sul singolo Silvery some-times (Ghosts). Shiny and oh so bright è il seguito di Monuments to an elegy del 2014.Prodotto da Rick Rubin, l’album è la realizzazione della reunion che quest’anno ha visto Billy Corgan tornare a suonare insieme agli altri componenti della band James Iha e Jimmy Chamberlin, membri originali della formazione. Rubin è un’autorità della musica contemporanea, vincitore di dieci Grammy Award, e co-fondatore dell’etichetta Def Jam, negli anni Ottanta contribuì in maniera sostanziale al successo globale dell’hip-hop e del rock.L’album comprende 8 tracce degli Smashing Pumpkins: Alienation, Travels, Silvery Sometimes, Solara, With Sympathy, Marchin On, Knights of Malta, Seek And You Shall Destroy.

The Muse have announced that their new album containing unedited songs “Simulation Theory” will be released on November 9 next. The British Band is known for their versatile music genre, that moves from progressive rock to electronic musice and for the texts of their songs that range and touch different mat-ters, UFO, Apocalypse, War, Religion…. The video of the new single “Something Human” , has been shot by Lance Drake, who had already worked with the Band, the Dig Down and Thought Contagion..The track is about moments the Band lived while going around the world during their last tours. The new Album “Simulation Theory” has been produced by the Muse together with Rick Costey, Mike Elizondo, Shellback and Timbaland and will be published on November. The digital cover was created by the digital artist Kyle Lambert. Già nel 2005, in Mtv Unplugged, uno degli album più significativi della sua carriera, c’era Love’s In Need of Love Today di Stevie Wonder, I heard it throught the grapevine di Marvin Gaye, Who’s Lovin’ You dei Jackson 5. Una passione per il soul infinita. Con Pop Heart dà la possibilità anche alle nuove generazioni canzoni sco-nosciute del passato. Ogni canzone è stata riarrangiata dal noto Michele Canova che ha adattato le canzoni alla voce di Giorgia e ha cercato di dare nuova vita e spirito a queste famose canzoni italiane. Negli anni però ha cantato anche brani di Luigi Tenco, Ornella Vanoni, senza mai dimen-ticare le sue madri spirituali Aretha Franklin e Whitney Houston. Nel nuovo album ci saranno brani di Ornella Va-noni, di Pino Daniele, ma anche cover di artisti di grande caratura come Mina, Luigi Tengo o Lucio Battisti.

Le sale italiane si preparano ad un grande, e a lungo richiesto, ritorno. Dopo ben 13 anni Christian de Sica e Massimo Boldi si sono ritrovati per una nuova ed esilarante pellicola, firmata proprio dall’attore e regista romano. “Amici come prima”, un titolo che oltre a presentare il film stesso, funge da spiegazione alla separazione profes-sionale della coppia, oggi – dicono i due – più uniti di prima. una GuiDa RapiDa pER aiutaREiL passEGGERoPer proteggervi contro la nuova minaccia derivante dagli esplosivi liquidi, l’Unione europea ha adottato nuove regole di sicurezza che limitano le quantità di liquidi che possono essere introdotti nelle aree sterili. tali regole si applicano nei confronti tutti i passeggeri in partenza dagli aeroporti dell’Unione Europea verso qualsiasi destinazione. Ciò significa che ai controlli di sicurezza, il passeggero e il relativo bagaglio a mano devono essere controllati per verificare la presenza di liquidi. Comunque, le nuove regole non limitano la quantità di liquidi che possono essere acquistati presso gli esercizi commerciali situati oltre il punto di controllo del titolo di viaggio od a bordo di un aeromobile di compagnia appartenente all’Unione Europea. le nuove regole si applicano a partire da lunedì 6 novembre 2006, in tutti gli ae-roporti dell’Unione Europea, in Norvegia, Islanda e Svizzera a meno di eventuali modifiche.

circa. Alzatevi di tanto in tanto e camminate su e giù per il cor-

ridoio oppure fate i semplici esercizi* di stretching illustrati per

prevenire problemi circolatori.

Prolonged sitting in a fixed position can make you feel uncom-fortable in the plane. Every few hours, stretch your arms and legs or carry out some easy exercises* suggested below.

Consumate pasti leggeri, mangiate con moderazione e limitare

bevande gassate, tè e caffè.

Eat a light meal and moderate you intake of fizzy drinks, tea and coffee.

Bevete molta acqua naturale, meglio se in piccole quantità e

spesso.

Drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated.Moderate il consumo di bevande alcoliche, poiché queste sono

assorbite più facilmente dal corpo ad alta quota a causa della

bassa pressione dell’aria all’interno della cabina.

Moderate your intake of alcohol.

In caso di permanenza prolungata a bordo è consigliato sosti-
