lái lái qù qù "Come and go”

    come

    lái

Directional complements 来 (lái) and 去 (qù) are simple directional complements. They often follow a verb to show the direction of the action relative to the speaker.

Usually “main verb + 来 (lái) “ indicates the action is in the direction coming toward the speaker. For example, 回来 (huílái) means “come back”.

“Main verb + 去 (qù) “ indicates the action is in the direction away from the speaker. For example, 送去 (sòng qù) means “send away”.

How is it used? ⼈人们来来去去。(rénmen lái lái qù qù) “People come and walk away”.

失望来来去去。(shīwàng lái lái qù qù) “Disappointment has come and gone”.

Other variations 来来回回 (lái lái huí hui) “Back and forth”.

⾛走来⾛走去 (zǒu lái zǒu qù) “Walk around”.

⼈人来⼈人往 (rén lái rén wǎng) “Bustled with people” (lit. people come and go)
