To develop students’ vocabulary related to holidays; To discuss and express opinions about different pictures; To develop students’ ability to write about their holiday choices; To read a text using the correct intonation and pronunciation; To present and practice Past Tense Continuous

Procedure:
Warming up activity:

The teacher introduces the students the topic they are going to discuss by trying to enrich the students’ vocabulary related to holidays. The students are asked to try to define the term, find synonymous words, talk about the different types, the possible destinations and also discuss about the means of transport. The teacher helps them with any necessary words or expressions.

Activity 1:
The teacher together with the students discuss upon G. K. Chesterton’s quotation: “Travel broadens the mind”. The teacher encourages the students to talk about the unknown places they have visited, the new people they have met there and about the new things they have learned from this unforgettable experience.

Activity 2:
The teacher asks the students to imagine they are tourists in a beautiful foreign country but they can only stay there for a day because of some unexpected problems at work that are calling them back home. Because of their sudden change of plans, they will have to do their best to see the most beautiful and important attractions in the city in just one day. They are given a tourist map by the travel agency with the 10 most beautiful attractions but they will only have to choose 3 of them, the ones they prefer to visit most. The teacher explains their tasks clearly. The teacher assesses their work and helps them with words and expressions where necessary.

Before reading the text, the students are asked to guess about the people in the pictures and about the things that have happened.
The students take turns in reading the text using the correct pronunciation and intonation. The teacher explains the unknown words and writes them on the blackboard.

Activity 4:
The students are introduced with the Past Tense Continuous by being asked to look for any unknown tense in the text. The students are encouraged to say as much as they can about the new grammar structure and are asked to search for more examples in the text and their owns. The teacher assesses their work and prompts them in finding as many examples as they can. The teacher writes the examples on the blackboard.

Activity 5 (feedback):
The students are given some worksheets with some information about Past Tense Continuous and are asked to fill in the exercises with the correct form. The teacher explains their tasks clearly and assesses their work.
