    GUIDELINES FOR INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

    1.0 BACKGROUND

    Industrial Training is a compulsory course for all students pursuing Bachelor programs in MSU.

    The course is equivalent to a 6-credit-hour for a period of 6 months. The aim of this industrial

    training is to develop good character such as complying with the companys terms and

    conditions! teamwor"! punctuality! good attitudes and willingness to learn. The training gives

    students hands on e#perience of the real wor"ing environment as well as application of 

    classroom theories.

    The o$%ectives of Industrial Training includes&

    a. To e#pose students to hospitality ' tourism e#perience and "nowledge! which are

    required in industry and not taught in the lecture rooms. $. To apply the hospitality ' tourism "nowledge taught in the lecture rooms in real

    industrial situations.

    c. To share the e#perience gained from the (Industrial Training in discussions held in the

    lecture rooms.

    d. To get a feel of the wor" environment.

    e. To gain e#posure on hospitality ' tourism procedural wor" flow management and

    implementation! and technical report writing in hospitality ' tourism wor"s)pro%ects.

    f. To e#pose students to responsi$ilities and ethics of front liners.

    g. To e#pose the students to prospective future employers

    2.0 THE INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

    2.1 Req!"e#e$%

    .,., It is compulsory for all students of MSU B'(e)*" !$ H*+,!%)!%-

    M$e#e$%/T*"!+#  programs to undergo the training. Students

    must complete 11 '"e!% (*"+ to undergo the training. #ceptions!

    however! with genuine reasons! are solely through the discretion and

     permission of respective /eans and the Industrial Training 0ommittee

    1IT02.

    training.

    2.2 P)'e#e$%

    .., Students must register themselves for industrial training with theInternship 0oordinators at least *$e +e#e+%e"  $efore the training

    starts.

    .. The locations of placements should only $e within the regions of 

    uala 7umpur and Selangor.

    ..3 The committee has a list of prospective employers in uala 7umpur 

    and Selangor.

    ..4 Students are encouraged to choose their own placements. It is

    advisa$le for students to identify the organi8ation two semesters $efore

    the training commences.

    ..9 Strictly note that it is the responsi$ility of each student to o$tainher)his own industrial placement.

    ..6 :ailing to get the placements! students should inform the Internship

    coordinator at )e+% 1 #*$%( $efore the training commences.

    ..; The IT0 might assist you with a list of possi$le contacts within the

    industry.

    overseas are strongly encouraged to do so! provided they have

    sufficient information regarding the proposed nature of the wor".

    ..,@ Students effort) initiative to acquire placement for Industrial Training

    is treated as part of the training.

    ..,, The nature of the %o$s must $e related to the students programs and

    6.0 THE STUDENTS

    6.1 ligi$le students must register themselves with the IT0 $y completing

    Aegistration form 1A,,e$!5 B2.

    6.2 Students may o$tain cover letter from the respective faculty as evidence of MSU

    students.

    6.6 Students must report for duty at the specified date ) and place 1A,,e$!5 C2.

    6. Students must ma"e sure that the participating company supervisor completes the

    report duty form and return to the university! within *$e 7ee8 .

    6.9 Students are to undergo training for a specified period.

    6.3 Students should not tarnish the image of MSU $y e#hi$iting negative $ehavior 

    during the training period! as this will discourage the company from participating

    in future programs.

    6. The students need to "eep details of their wor" assignment in their 

    monthly)wee"ly log$oo"s. 5ne copy of the log$oo" will $e given to thesupervisor in charge and the other copy for inclusion as =ppendi# in the final

    report.

    6. Students are not allowed to ta"e any su$%ect during the training period.

    6.; Students must comply with rules and regulations of the company such as

     punctuality and dress code.

    6.10 Students are encouraged to meet their designated internal supervisors and discuss

    any matter pertaining the training.

    .0 THE INTERNAL SUPERVISOR 

    .1 ach student will $e assigned a supervisor during industrial training.

    .2 In the a$sence of the designated supervisor another supervisor will $e appointed.

    .6 The designated supervisor will pay a visit to his)her students at the participating

    companies %7!'e during the training period. The purpose of the visit is to o$tain

    feed$ac" and update progress on students training.

    . The first visit will ta"e place $etween wee" 4 to wee" 6 after the students have

    reported for duties.

    .9 The second visit will ta"e place in the last month of the training..3 The o$%ective of the internship supervisor1s2 visit to the training place are as

    follows&

    a2 To visit the students involved with Industrial training and to discuss with

    training supervisor1s2 on the training program or other matter concerned.

    /iscussions will $e held with training supervisor as well as the student.

    The students and the company will $e informed on the date and time of the

    visit.

    . The supervisor shall have Industrial Training valuation :orm 1:orms 02 and

    *erformance =ppraisal :orm 1:orm /< =A,,e$!5 F & G2. :orm / is to $e

    completed $y the participating supervisors. :orm 0 is to $e completed $y

    students and $oth supervisors.

    . The supervisor must ma"e sure he)she has $oth :orm 0 and / in his)her "eeping

    for evaluation purposes. very supervisor should also inspect the students

    log$oo" during visit.

    .; Internal supervisors may claim the costs of visiting $y filling in the form.

    .10 The internal supervisors also have to evaluate students industrial training reports..11 The overall students result should $e su$mitted to the IT0 committee within

    wee" after the reports su$mission. ach supervisor must su$mit every final result

    of industrial training to Industrial Training 0ommittee within two wee"s after the

    report has $een su$mitted $y the students.

    9.0 THE EVALUATION

    9.1 0riterion for evaluation is divided into components i.e. practical and report!

    which carry 9@F! and 9@F respectively.

    9.2 Scale of grading is determined $y the University

    9.6 The supervisor has to evaluate the students report $y filling industrial training

    report form from the IT0. 

    9. The practical is gauged into assessments i.e. evaluation from the company

    supervisor1s2 and assessment from the internal supervisor during the field visit

    which carry 3@F and @F respectively. 1Bachelor2

    9.9 The practical is gauged into assessments i.e. evaluation from the company

    9.3 If in the duration of training the students are unhappy with the training

    environment or find inconspicuous matters regarding the training the students hasto report to his)her respective internal supervisor.

    9. The internal supervisor may as" the student to write a report $y filling the

    0omplaint :orm 1A,,e$!5 I2 for Industrial Training Students.

    9. The respective internal supervisor is to discuss the pro$lem with the students and

    also the IT0.

    9.; /uring the final evaluation the respective internal supervisor may refer to the

    complaint form of the student for a fair assessment.

    3.0 THE REPORT

    =n Industrial Training report should $e prepared for each period of approved placement. The

    report is e#pected to demonstrate development of practical and professional s"ills in ospitality

    and Tourism through technical e#perience and application of theoretical "nowledge.

    /evelopment of s"ills in dealing with people! and communication s"ills form part of the training

    e#perience.

    Industrial Training Aeport is&

    i. = compiled writing of training record! content and e#perience gained through wor" 

     performed $ased on hospitality and tourism methodologies! s"ills or approach.

    ii. Implanting frontliner e#pertise onto the students! that is! preparation of technical reports!

    communications! technical s"ills and creative pro$lem solving.

    Students should see" advice from their employers to ensure that no confidential material is

    included into the report. The student should $e a$le to present the report to prospective

    employers! as a complement to their degree. The following should $e o$served&

    Aeferences should $e made in the te#t to $oo"s! %ournals! articles etc.! used during the training

     period and should $e listed. :inally! a conclusion should include comprehensive comments onthe type and value of e#perience gained! and how this relates to their professional career.

    Students should su$mit their reports two wee"s after the completion of their industrial training to

    their internal supervisor. The format of the report is e#plained $elow.

    Student will $e given a /aily 7og$oo" 1A,,e$!5 E2 where all the training content) activities

    need to $e recorded onto it on daily $asis. The purpose of "eeping a log$oo" includes&

    i. = reflection of on %o$ training content to the student! and evidence of %o$ record for 

    supervisor and adviser.

    ii. *art of professional practice in customer service profession is to record incidence andevidence onto a daily wor" log

    iii. Source of reference in writing the Industrial Training Aeport.

    The report should be submitted within 2 weeks after the completion of the training to the

    internal supervisor assigned to the students. Students will be penalized for delay in submitting

    reports.

    3.1 GUIDELINE FOR PREPARATION OF INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

    REPORT

    3.1.1 INTRODUCTION

    The purpose of the Industrial Training is to provide e#posure for the students on

     practical hospitality and tourism fields. Through this e#posure! students will have

     $etter understanding of hospitality practice in general and sense of frequent and

     possi$le pro$lems. This training is part of the learning process. So! the e#posure

    that uplifts the "nowledge and e#perience of a student needs to $e properly

    documented in the form of a report. Through this report! the e#perience gained

    can $e delivered to their peers. = properly prepared report can facilitate the

     presentation of the practical e#perience in an orderly! precise and interesting

    manner.

    3.1.2 CONTENTS AND FORMAT OF REPORT

    The procedure for preparation of the report has to follow the format determined

     $y the :aculty $ased on the guidelines $elow.
