The RAL Quality Certification Mark 992/3

for linen from food processing businesses

was introduced in 1998 in connection

with the implementation of the European

Directive on hygiene when handling

foodstuffs. The aim is to ensure fully

hygienic clothing as part of the general

hygiene management in facilities where

food is produced, handled or sold.

Guaranteed cleanliness and hygiene RAL Quality Certification Mark RAL-GZ 992/3 for linen from food processing businesses

Long before the hygiene management

system DIN EN 14065 "Risk Analysis and

Biocontamination Control System (RABC)"

existed, the laundry sector with its Quality

Certification Mark for linen from food

processing businesses had already developed

pioneering test and inspection principles and

successfully and permanently established

them in the market.

The RAL Quality Certification Mark 992/3 is

awarded independently from other quality

marks for professional linen care and requires

member companies to demonstrate process

control and compliance with the required

strict hygiene standards. This is monitored

throughout a six-month qualifying period.

The requirements for the technical equipment

and the work process are particularly

high. This also ensures there is no risk of

contamination of the processed products

through the work clothing of the personnel

and other textiles used.

Hygiene inspections

Textiles in food processing companies

must comply with particularly high

hygiene standards. An important

prerequisite for this is consistent hygiene

management in any reprocessing as

provided by the certified companies.

This is checked during the annual site

inspections which are carried out by

independent experts from the Hohenstein

Institute. The hygiene status is ascertained

using microbiological surface swabs and

water samples from the various areas of a

laundry company, the hands of employees

and the processed laundries.
