MAWLĀNĀ ADAM
LOONAT v (part 3)
Al - Hidāyah Foundation
As we have read previously, Mawlānā v
was very concerned about the teachings of
Isām reaching the people, thus despite
giving his services at the institutes
mentioned in the last issue, Mawlānā v
also began services in the Delves area, by
teaching his eldest nieces and nephews
without taking any payment for his time
and effort. He would say, “This is my
duty.”
Little did Mawlānā v realise that this act of
concern for his young nieces and nephews
would later flourish into an institute of its
own.
As the word spread that a Mawlānā is
teaching from home, people around the
area inquired, as to whether he could also
educate their children. Mawlānā v took on
the responsibility. A small number of
children would attend at different times
which was catered for by only 2 team
members, respected Mawlānā v and his
respected Apa (wife).
Over time this number grew to such an
extent that they could not cater for it in
Mawlānā’s father’s home and for this
reason Mawlānā v sought Mashwarah
(consultation and advice) from our
respected teacher and mentor Shaykh-ul-
Ḥadīth, Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Muhammad
Saleem Dhorat hafiẓahullāh. After much
thought and consideration, advice was
given to start looking for a building to cater
for the needs of the community.
In December 2012 the current premises of
Al - Hidāyah Foundation, 130 - 140
Walstead Road came onto the market and
was purchased in an auction for the price of
£273,000. With only a month given to raise
funds, Mawlānā v set out asking friends
and family for donations, majority of which
was raised was in the form of qardh
(interest free loans). Nevertheless, with the
Help of Allāh S and du‘ā of our teachers
and elders, within the month the funds were
raised and the building purchased.
Being a commercial property, which had
been closed for a number of years, essential
work and repairs needed to be carried out
to make it fit for use. Funds being scarce
Mawlānā v would do much of the work
himself to save money, he would arrive in
the morning and stay until his duty of
teaching would come.

Lessons from the Life and Death of Mawlānā Adam
Loonat ṣāḥib v (part 2) by Shaykh-ul-Ḥadīth, Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Muham-
mad Saleem Dhorat ḥafiẓahullāh
1. Preparation for the Hereafter
Mawlānā Muhammad Ali, a graduate of the IDA, shared
with me that the wife of Mawlānā Adam said to his wife
that Mawlānā has nothing to worry about as he has made
his hereafter and left. There is no better person to testify
to a person being good than his wife as she is aware of
all his good and bad habits. For the wife of Mawlānā
Adam ṣāḥib to say that he has made his Hereafter is a
strong testimony to the fact that Mawlānā spent his life in
a manner which sought to please His Creator.
2. Feeling for others
Mawlānā Ibrahim Esaakji, a respected ‘ālim in Walsall,
said that there was a time when he was going through
some difficulty. Mawlānā Adam ṣāḥib one day took him
out for tea. He later revealed that he did this because he
saw Mawlānā Ibrahim looking stressed and so wanted to
help to relieve his stress.
3. Not causing inconvenience to anyone
At the time of my last visit to Walsall, Mawlānā had
moved in to his own house and it was his desire for me to
visit and make du‘ā. We were also scheduled to go to Al-
Hidāyah Foundation. On the way there, we passed by his
house and Mawlānā merely pointed out his house and
requested for du‘ā whilst we were sat in the car. Later he
informed Mawlānā Ahmad ṣāḥib that even though it was
his desire for me to visit his home, he decided to do what
he did as it was already late and he did not want to cause
me any inconvenience by asking me to do something
which would delay my return to Leicester.
Mawlānā used to travel to other cities to collect donations
for his institute. However, he would not contact his
friends in that locality so as to not cause them the least
inconvenience. The associate would only know of his
arrival if they happened to coincidentally meet.
4. Love for others and being loved by others
After my father passed away and I returned to Darul
Uloom Bury, my dear beloved respected teacher, Ḥaḍrat
Mawlānā Hashim Ṣāḥib dāmat barakātuhum, asked me
to describe my father in one sentence, I replied by saying
that he left this world in a state that he was neither un-
happy with anyone nor did he leave anyone unhappy.
Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā said to me, ‘Mawlānā, this is a sign of a
very lofty status.’ I can also say the same for Mawlānā
Adam, as this quality was evident in him. A senior ‘ālim of
Walsall and the imām of Masjid-ul-Faruq, Mawlānā Abdul
Awwal ṣāḥib, said regarding him that he was beloved to
all.
5. Humbleness
Mawlānā was a very simple and humble person. He
would never argue or quarrel with anyone. Even if some-
one made a negative remark, he would simply smile and
lower his gaze. He always consulted his seniors and
sought their guidance. He had no ego that would prevent
from consulting even his colleagues. Along with this,
even though Mawlānā was leading an institute, there was
no sign of pride in him. From the time he was a student
at the IDA until my last meeting with him, I did not see
any change in his demeanour.
6. Sacrifice for Dīn
One of our graduates, Mawlānā Farhan Vali of London,
informed me that Mawlānā Adam ṣāḥib’s practice was
that whenever he would go to other cities for collection
for his Madrasah he would bear all the costs from his
own pocket and not take any recompense from the insti-
tute’s funds. Thus he would sacrifice both time and
money.
7. Ṣadaqah Jāriyah
Rasūlullāh s has said:
When a person passes away, his actions come to
an end except for three things: ṣadaqah jāriyah (charity that continues), ‘ilm from which benefit is derived and a pious child who supplicates for him.
(Abū Dāwūd)
With regards to children, Mawlānā has left behind four
children; the eldest being seven. May Allāh S look after
them, adorn them with ‘ilm and ‘amal and make them
true ṣadaqah jāriyah for Mawlānā Adam ṣāḥib. Āmīn.
With regards to other forms of ṣadaqah jāriyah, there are
two things which will, inshā’allāh, result in continuous
reward for him:

a) Establishment of an institute, Al-Hidāyah Foundation –
Mawlānā established this institute through the Grace of
Allāh S in 2011. This institute has been serving the
local community from its inception till today. Inshā’allāh
Mawlānā will receive a share of all the activities carried
out there.
b) Mawlānā was the first student in the history of the IDA
to recite the entire Qur’ān from memory in one sitting. It
was decided that he recite the final verses in the 8th
Annual Youth Conference 2001 in order to encourage
other ḥuffāẓ. Alḥamdulillāh, many other students of the
IDA have since followed with 41 students this year
alone reciting the whole Qur’ān in one sitting. Other in-
stitutes may have also started to follow this practice and
encourage their students to achieve the same. Inshā’al-
lāh, Mawlānā Adam ṣāḥib will receive reward for these
completions too as Nabī s has said, “He who intro-
duced some good practice in Islām which was followed
after him (by people) he would be assured of reward
like one who followed it, without their rewards being
diminished in any respect.” (Muslim)
Death can strike at any moment and it does not discrimi-
nate between young and old, healthy and sick, rich and
poor. Hence we must always be prepared to depart from
this world.
By living a life of goodness and piety, we will earn a good
departure from this world. Similarly, by living a sinful life,
we will earn a bad death. Mawlānā Adam was bestowed
with honour through dozens participating in his janāzah
and hundreds making du‘ā for him.
May Allāh S grant Mawlānā a high status in Jannah, may
He grant him a place in the company of the Ambiyā,
ṣiddīqīn, shuhadā and the ṣāliḥīn, and may He grant his
parents, wife, children and all other family members good
ṣabr and immense reward. Āmīn.

With minimal expenditure, the Property was ready for
use, the students of Madrasah-Al-Hidāyah would be
able to learn in a more spacious and comfortable
environment, thus Al-Hidāyah foundation was officially
opened mid-2013 by Shaykh-ul-Ḥadīth, Ḥaḍrat
Mawlānā Muhammad Saleem Dhorat ḥafiẓahullāh.
With the increase in the number of students, the team
also expanded from a team of 2 to 5, which included 3
male teachers and 2 female. As time passed the number
of students continued to increase. (Alhamdulillāh today
we have over 200 students and 12 staff members).
Over the years Mawlānā’s v main point of concern was
how to better the education for the students; different
methods and books were used. Mawlānā v never shied
away from asking advice from others in the same field
in order to better the services of Al-Hidāyah
Foundation. Alhamdulillāh through the effort and
concern of Mawlānā v and his team, Madrasah-Al-
Hidāyah has a set 5 day syllabus in place, in which
students, apart from learning the Glorious Qur’ān,
memorising surahs and selected du‘ās, they also learn
main aspects of Fiqh, Aqā‘id, Adāb, history and
Tajweed.
Expanding Our Services:
The launch of Al-Hidāyah Publications
As the Madrasah system settled and it began benefitting
the young, Al-Hidāyah foundation wanted to expand
into the wider community by offering a free bi-monthly
journal from where people can acquire true teachings of
Isām.
Al-Hidāyah publication department was launched in
2015, with the first volume of Al-Hidāyah consisting of
4 pages. Slowly, over the years, the number of pages
have increased and now, Alhamdulillāh, it contains 16
pages and is distributed locally. Alhamdulillāh people
also benefit from it from our website.
In January 2017 our publication department began to
publish and distribute 3 leaflets a year written mainly
by our teacher and mentor Shaykh-ul-Ḥadīth, Ḥaḍrat
Mawlānā Muhammad Saleem Dhorat hafiẓahullāh.
In June 2018 the distribution of free Isāmic books was
launched, starting with distributing books to those who
where intending on performing Hajj, (the set included 5
titles). All of these projects are funded through
donations of well wishers, with Mawlānā v having
always taken part in them.

LESSONS FROM ḤĀDĪTH
Abu Hurayrah t reported, I heard the Messenger of Allāh ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص saying, "When the Iqamah is pronounced, do
not come to salāh running; you should walk calmly with tranquillity to join the congregation. Then join in
what you catch for and complete what you miss." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Continuing with the topic of Salāh, the most virtuous act of worship in the Court of Allāh S. In the above
Ḥadith our beloved Prophet s is encouraging us to attend the Jamā‘ah (congregation) with dignity. A lot
of emphasis has been mentioned in the beautiful teaching of Prophet s, encouraging us to perform salāh
as a Jamā’ah rather than alone. This point is mainly for the menfolk as mothers and sisters are encouraged
to perform their salāh in their homes on an individual basis—it is more virtuous too.
It is a sad state of the Ummah of Prophet s that today the Masājid are only full on three occasions
throughout the year;
1. The Friday Jumu‘ah Ṣalāh
2. The Month of Ramaḍan
3. The ‘Īd Ṣalāh
It may seem that it is difficult to perform the salāh on a day to day basis with Jamā‘ah, but if we put it
into context, it only requires a maximum of two and a half hours to perform all the five salāh, if we give
30 minutes for each salāh, but majority of the time it is much less than this.
Now that we understand that performing salāh does not take too much of our time, let us concentrate on
performing salāh with Jamā‘ah, the best salah is that which is performed in the masjid. However if due to
other commitments for example work does not allow you attend the masjid due to timings (which is un-
derstandable) then a person can also perform with the Jamā‘ah at the work place with a minimum of two
people. Although the reward in the masjid is greater, nevertheless to perform the salāh outside the masjid
with a valid reason, will inshā’allāh also gain you the same reward as the intention and desire is present, it
is mentioned in another ḥadith;
Sayyidina Ibn Umar t narrates, that Prophet s has said, the salāh performed in congregation is 27
times better than performing salāh alone. (Bukhari and Muslim)
So let us make a firm resolution from now that, come what may I must perform my salāh with Jamā‘ah, if
possible then in the masjid behind the Imām at its appointed time. However we must understand that Isām
is not that strict and does give leeway to for go the Jamā‘ah, for example you are to undertake a journey,
looking after an ill person (when there is no one else present) etc. If we think we have a valid reason we
must consult the ‘Ulamā (scholars) before we make up our minds.

Q. What are the virtues of the month of Muharram? (PART 4)
A. Acts to Refrain from
1) It is absolutely clear that the significance of the day of 'Āshūrā is from the time of the noble Prophet sallallāhu 'alayhi wasallam. However, many people regard this day as the day of mourning the martyrdom of Husayn radhiyallāhu 'anhu. The martyrdom of Husayn radhiyallāhu 'anhu was in-deed a great tragedy, but Isām is not a religion of perpetual mourning. Abū Sa'īd radhiyallāhu 'anhu relates that Rasūlullāh sallallāhu 'alayhi wasallam has cursed mourners and those who listen to them. (Abū Dāwūd) The pages of Isāmic History are filled with the blood of the martyrs. Should we begin to mourn the martyrdom of the Sahābah radhiyallāhu 'anhum alone, every other day would be a day of mourning. Thus, to attribute the significance of 'Āshūrā to the martyrdom of Husayn radhiyallāhu 'anhu is base-less. Therefore, the host of baseless customs with regard to his martyrdom — mourning, lamenting and displaying grief — must be discarded. If mourning were permissible, then the day of the demise of Rasūlullāh sallallāhu 'alayhi wasallam would have been more worthy for mourning and lamenting. 2) The following misconceptions with regard to 'Āshūrā are baseless: • This is the day in which Ādam 'alayhis salām was created. • This is the day in which Ibrāhīm 'alayhis salām was born. • This is the day on which Qiyāmah will take place. • Whoever has a bath on the day of 'Āshūrā will never get ill. 3) Some regard the tenth of Muharram as a day of 'Īd. They indulge in adornment, applying surmah (collyrium), wearing new clothes, spending lavishly and cooking a particular type of meal which is not generally prepared. All these actions are regarded as sunnah according to their belief, whereas no authentic narration sanctioning and permitting such actions can be found. 4) Another misconception is that the month of Muharram is an unlucky month; hence marriage cere-monies should be avoided in this month. This concept is again contrary to the teachings of Rasūlul-lāh sallallāhu 'alayhi wasallam.
Let us observe this great day according to the way of Rasūlullāh sallallāhu 'alayhi wasallam and the Sahā-
bah radhiyallāhu 'anhum and refrain from all innovations which deprive us of the blessings from Allāh
ta'ālā. May Allāh ta'ālā guide us all upon the Straight Path and save us from every act which brings His
Displeasure. Āmīn.

The Daughters of the Prophet s ( Ustadhji Mohammed Surti)
Umme Khulthum
Alhamdulillāh due to the Tawfeeq of Allāh S, we completed the brief biography of the life of the second eldest daughter of our Beloved Prophet s, Sayyidatinā Ruqayyah . I pray to
Allāh S that He accepts the efforts made and overlooks any errors which have been committed.
Alhamdulillāh we now move onto the third daughter of our be-loved Nabi Muhammad s, Sayyidatinā Umme Khulthum .
Sayyidatinā Umme Khulthim was born in the Year 603 CE
and as mentioned she was the 3rd daughter after Sayyidatinā Zaynab and Sayyidatinā Ruqqayah . She was also a year
younger then her sister Sayyidatinā Ruqqayah .
Before the advent of Isām, Umme Khulthum married one of
the sons of Abu Lahab, Utbah. However just like in the incident of Sayyidatinā Ruqqayah , Abu Lahab forced his son to di-
vorce Umme Khulthum with which he obliged. Umme
Khulthum returned back to her father’s house. After return-
ing back, Umme Khulthum lived in Prophet s house for
many years. While there she experienced first hand the bur-dens her mother, Sayyidatinā Khadija was going through. It
was during this time where Sayyidatinā Khadija was going
through so much pain in her life.
It was then during this time where the Muslims and the Banu Hashim suffered so much pain. The Muslims were boycotted and confined to stay in the valley of Abu Tālib. They suffered extreme hunger, starvation and were in isolation for three years. During this period, they suffered the harshest treatment that any human can imagine. The cruelty and starvation were so much that some of them used to eat tree leaves just so they could release the pains of hunger.
One day, Abu Jahl noticed that Hakeem ibn Hizam ibn Khu-waylid was walking secretly, carrying wheat to his aunt,
Khadija , while a boy was accompanying him. Abu Jahl
caught him and shouted, "Are you carrying food to Banu Hashim?! By Allāh! I will not allow you and your food to leave here until I expose you in Makkah!"
Sa'd ibn Abi Waqas t said, "I had suffered hunger so much so that one night, I trampled upon something that was moist and I put it in my mouth and swallowed it though I did not know what that thing was!!" Such was the plight of the Muslims at the time. After 3 gruelling years, Abu Tālib came with news to Prophet s that the boycott had ended and they could go back to their day to day lives. However, this was overshadowed by the condition it left Sayyidatinā Khadija in.
It was at this point where Umme Kulthoom's role became ap-parent, for she took care of her mother with all the experience, love and compassion that she possessed. In addition to this difficult and time-consuming task, she was also responsible for taking care of her younger sister, Fatima. She spent three years of her youthful life in struggle, patience and persever-ance. It was because of this, she deserved the title: 'The Con-fined of the Valley'.
The boycott had weakened Khadijah . She lay down on her
bed in Makkah expecting the day that she would meet Allāh S. It did not take long before she breathed her last and re-turned to her Master. Her daughters, Zaynab, Umme Kulthum and Fatima stood around her having a final look at their mother's bright and beautiful face. That was on the l0th day of Ramaḍān, in the tenth year of her husband's commission as a
Prophet.
The responsibility of Umme Kulthum had increased. Now
the responsibility of the Prophet's noble household fell on her shoulders. And she played the role excellently.
Migration
During the time of Migration, Umme Khulthum and her sister
Fatima were told to remain in Makkah. Once Prophet s ar-rived in Madinah, he s sent Zaid Bin Harith t to Makkah to bring them to Madinah. Once Zaid reached Makkah, the 2 sis-

ters bade farewell to their mother’s grave before making Hijrah to Madinah.
2 years after her migration. Umme Khulthum witnessed high
and low points in her life. She witnesses Prophet s victory in the battle of Badr. It was during this great victory for Isām that Umme Khulthum suffered the lost of her sister Sayyidatinā Ru-qqayah .
At the beginning of the third year of Hijrah, Umme Khulthum
would notice Uthmaan t coming to the Prophet s on many occasions full of sorrow, distress and grief over the loss of his wife and sister of Umme Khulthum , Sayyidatinā Ruqqayah .
One day, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab t came to the Messenger of
Allāh s angry and complaining. When the Prophet s asked him what was wrong, he informed him that he offered his daughter, Hafsah in marriage to Abu Bakr t and Uthmaan t but both
of them refused. The Messenger of Allāh s calmed him and said: "Hafsah will marry someone who is better than 'Uthmaan
and 'Uthmaan will marry someone who is better than Hafsah.” It was after this incident that Uthmaan t married Umme Khulthum
and Sayyidatinā Hafsah married the Prophet s.
Inshā’allāh in the next issue of “Dear Sister”, we will look at the later life of the Daughter of Prophet s, Umme Khulthum and what valuable lessons we can take from her life.
Two issues ago, part of the ayah mentioned was – ‘So give good news to those who exercise patience’ i.e give glad tidings, congratulate those who have patience. What does it mean to bear the difficulty with patience? This means remaining pleased with that which pleases
Allāh S. As human beings we get upset, the tears will flow; there is no sin in this. Rasūlullāh s himself had
tears flowing down his blessed cheeks when his beloved child Sayyidunā Ibrahim t departed from the world.
When the Sahābah enquired, Rasūlullāh s explained (to the effect) that these tears were a sign of mercy and not the absence of patience. To express one’s sorrow by crying isn’t a sin. One should take care not to complain with the tongue nor object with the heart. For example, a bereaved should not think or say ‘Why has my be-loved been taken away from me?’ ‘He/she was so young, why did they have to depart?’ Rather, we should rec-
tify the state of our heart and clear our mind ‘O Allāh we are pleased with your decree, we are satisfied. We are pleased with Your pleasure. You have taken the deceased at the best time, all your decisions are full of wisdom. Grant us beautiful patience’ To shed tears is not contrary to sabr (patience), but to utter objections is.
Hakeem Akhtar ṣaḥib v mentioned a couplet the translation of which is :- ‘My eyes with grief stricken tears overflows, While the heart for His sake bows in total submission’ So give good news to those who exercise patience...those who, when any difficulty befalls them, say, ‘Indeed
we belong to Allāh and to Him shall we return’
Qur’ān (2:156)
Rasūlullāh s has taught us to say ‘Innā lillāhi wa innā ilaihi rajioon’ in all difficulties, whether great or small. There is a misconception that it is only recited when a person passes away or a major incident occurs. The au-
thor of Roohul ma’āni writes that Rasūlullāh s read ‘Indeed we belong to Allāh and to Him shall we return’ on the following four occasions –
When pricked by a thorn On being bitten by a mosquito When a lamp became extinguished When the strap of the sandal broke
When a person faces any difficulty or even the slightest inconvenience they can pray and reflect on this part of
the ayah and recite, just like Allāh’s messenger s recited Istirjā. What is the meaning of Istirjā/ Innā lillāhi wa
innā ilaihi rajioon? Innā lillāh- We are the property, possessions, subjects of Allāh S. Allāh S the Most Merci-ful, The Most wise can place His subjects where it pleases Him, for how long it pleases Him and He Can remove
or shift the same if and when He so chooses. What is meant by ‘Wā innā ilaihi rajioon’ is that this separation is not permanent, rather it is temporary. Indeed we shall also return to that very same place as those who preceded us.

Du'ā - A Great Gift (PART 1)
by Hadhrat Mawlānā Muhammad Saleem Dhorat hafizahullāh
As believers, we all have a deep yearning to attach ourselves to our Merciful and Gracious Creator. Even the sinful aspire to do something that will please their Master and bring them closer to Him. Out of His sheer Grace and Mercy, Allāh ta'ālā has created many ways for us to acquire this close-ness. One of these is du'ā.
Du'ā holds special significance among the many important and spiritually uplifting forms of worship we have been bestowed with. It is an act extremely liked by Allāh ta'ālā as it represents the height of humbleness and submission to the Creator. It is for this reason it has been termed the “essence of 'ibādah” and even simply “ 'ibādah”. Rasūlullāh sallallāhu 'alayhi wasallam states:
Du'ā is the essence of 'ibādah. (At-Tirmidhī)
Du'ā is 'ibādah. (At-Tirmidhī)
Du'ā is so important that Allāh ta'ālā becomes displeased when His bondsman neglects it. Rasūlul-lāh sallallāhu 'alayhi wasallam states:
Allāh becomes angry with the person who does not ask from Him. (At-Tirmidhī)
By making du'ā, we create a special connection with Allāh ta'ālā whereby love for Him increases, faith in Him strengthens and the doors of boundless mercy are opened for us. If we do not ask from our Creator, we will never be able to create that special relationship.
Take the example of two people, one who is poor and needy and the other who is wealthy and eager to find opportunities to assist the needy. If the poor man were never to ask the rich man for assis-tance, he would never develop any relationship with him. However, by asking for assistance, a de-gree of recognition is created. If, at every time of need, he asked the rich person for help, and the rich person gave, then this would surely create love for the rich man in the poor man's heart. Simi-larly, witnessing the helplessness and neediness of the poor man, mercy would increase in the heart of the rich man, and he would regard this needy person instrumental in gaining the Pleasure of the Creator. He would advise the poor man not to be hesitant in asking him for help whenever the need arises. Soon the relationship would become such that the rich man would not wait for the poor man to ask, but would bestow his generosity upon him even before that. This is just an example of how mere mortals would behave; the Mercy and Grace of Allāh ta'ālā are beyond imagination!
Remember, du'ā is the weapon of the believer. Rasūlullāh sallallāhu 'alayhi wasallam said:
Verily, du'ā is beneficial against that (affliction) which has descended as well as that which has not [yet] descended; so hold fast, O bondsmen of Allāh, to du'ā. (At-Tirmidhī)

THE IMPORTANCE OF QAḌĀ ṢALĀH By Mufti Ismail Bhayat (Leicester)
Allāh S, through his infinite Mercy, has blessed the
Muslim Ummah with the bounty and favour of ṣalāh.
Almighty Allāh, who is our Sustainer and who is com-
pletely independent, has made ṣalāh compulsory upon
Muslims through His sheer Grace.
One may question why the obligation of ṣalāh is classed
as His Mercy and Grace. The answer is simple: the sole
purpose of a Muslim’s life is to gain the pleasure and
happiness of Allāh S, so He has made such avenues
compulsory in religion through which the believing
Muslim can reach this goal. Five times a day believers
are ordered to turn to their Creator and gain His close-
ness. This is so important that it will be the very first
thing asked about on the Day of Judgement. Believers
will have to account for every single ṣalāh that was
compulsory on them in this world.
The Prophet s said:
Indeed the very first deed that a servant will have to
account for will be his ṣalāh. If it is correct then he will
have succeeded, and if it is incorrect then he will have
lost and failed… (At-Tirmidhī)
The importance of completing one’s qaḍā ṣalāh can be
clearly understood from this ḥadīth. A Muslim does not
leave or neglect any ṣalāh of his own accord; due to
some difficulty or mistake his ṣalāh is missed. Thereaf-
ter, he is eager to make up for it.
Keeping this fact in mind, when noting the masā’il of
missed ṣalāh the fuqahā (jurists) of Islām do so under
the title ‘The Chapter on Missed Ṣalāh’, not ‘The Chap-
ter on Neglected Ṣalāh’. Shaykh Abū Bakr Al-Yamānī
v states:
The fuqahā have quoted ‘The Chapter on Missed Ṣalāh’
and have not quoted ‘The Chapter on Neglected Ṣalāh’
as the outward condition of a Muslim is that he does not
neglect ṣalāh on purpose; rather, he misses ṣalāh due to
a mistake or due to oversleeping or forgetting.
Therefore, it is extremely necessary for a Muslim to ful-
fil the important duty of performing all the ṣalāh that he
has missed.
A few beneficial points from the teachings of our re-
spected Haḍrat Mawlānā Muhammad Saleem Dhorat
ḥafiẓahullāh are mentioned for those intending to com-
plete this necessary task.
• Firstly, make a firm intention to fulfil this great re-
sponsibility and repent for missing the previous ṣalāh.
Also do not miss any ṣalāh from now on.
• Consult an ‘ālim with regards to working out the num-
ber of ṣalāh you have missed.
• Allocate a specific amount of time every day for qaḍā
ṣalāh. Increase this time on the weekends.
• Or make a target of five every day and ten on the
weekends.
• Or make a target of performing one qaḍā after every
farḍ ṣalāh of the day.
• Qaḍā can be read at all times except the following: -
Sunrise, - Midday i.e. during approx. 10mins. before
Zawāl, - Sunset i.e. before Maghrib Ṣalāh.
• Keep a chart and note your progress.
• Niyyah (intention) is necessary for ṣalāh. When per-
forming qaḍā ṣalāh one needs to make niyyah for the
particular ṣalāh that was missed. In the case of having
missed many ṣalāh, the niyyah should be to do qaḍā of
the last ṣalāh missed, e.g. two raka‘āt qaḍa of Fajr is
being performed for the last Fajr Ṣalāh missed.
• In all your qaḍā ṣalāh you may read the same short
sūrahs over again, e.g. Sūrah Al-‘Aṣr and Sūrah Al-
Kawthar.
• In the third and fourth raka‘āt of Ẓuhr, ‘Aṣr, Maghrib
and ‘Ishā instead of reading Sūrah Al-Fātiḥah as usual,
you may read any tasbīḥ e.g. subḥānallāh or
alḥamdulillāh or Allāhu akbar three times and thereafter
proceed into rukū‘.
•However, in the Witr Ṣalāh you must read Sūrah
AlFātiḥah and another sūrah in all three raka‘āt.
•In qaḍā ṣalāh you may end the ṣalāh by reading a short
form of durūd sharīf after the tashahhud (at-taḥiyyāt).
Note: All the points mentioned in helping a Muslim
shorten the time in fulfilling his qaḍā are taken from the
works of the great fuqahā. If one reads ṣalāh according
to these points then there will be no effect on the valid-
ity of the ṣalāh. © At-Tazkiyah 2014
