Principal’s Message In recent weeks there has been a lot of attention in the media on child safety issues. AWARD GRINNERS WEEK 6

P&C

The next Minmi Public school P&C meeting will be on Wednesday 1st August 2018 at 6:30 pm. The P&C Committee now have an email address. Please contact them if you have any questions, comments or suggestions. [email protected]

Star Struck!

Wow! What an experience these amazing

students have had.

I had the privilege of attending Star Struck for the Friday night performance and was blown away by the huge amount of talent that can be found in our schools. The Star Struck team from Minmi were a credit to themselves and their school and community. We are so proud of you! A big shout out to Mrs Hardy and Miss Clulow, who made our participation possible. Also thank you to the parents who supported our students by making such a huge commitment to their costumes, transport and organisation. Yet another fantastic Minmi Community team effort that produced fantastic results.

Student Safety Due to recent events widely covered in the media NSW Police have issued a document to schools called ‘Safe people, Safe places’. Please see the attachment at the end of the Bulletin. If you have not already done so, please discuss safety when travelling to and from school with your child/ren.

National Refugee Week

National Refugee Week is held to celebrate the contributions of refugees to the Australian community and encourage better understanding between communities. Students at our school have looked at books from our library to learn more about refugees around the world and the P&C were able to view the trailer for a documentary called ‘The Staging Post’. For more information see the National Refugee Week website.

Debating The Minmi PS Debating team travelled to Maryland Public School to participate in the 2nd round of the Premier’s Debating Competition. The topic was ‘social media should be banned for children under the age of 18’ and we argued the negative side. Minmi gave a solid performance but were defeated on the day. They were gracious in defeat and are determined to improve at the next debate. What a great effort and what a great attitude shown by all the team members.

Thinking While Moving in English

Our 3/4 class will be participating in a University of Newcastle Study ‘Thinking While Moving in English’. Participating in this study further develops our school’s ability to improve the wellbeing and academic outcomes for our students. Students will participate in an English program which incorporates movement into all the activities. We look forward to developing this concept further in the future at Minmi PS.

Semester 1 Reports 2018 Semester 1 student reports will be sent home on Friday 29th June. If you wish to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their progress interview times will be available. Please Note: this is not restricted to formal report times during the year. If at any time you would like to meet with your child’s teacher please contact the office to arrange a mutually agreed time.

General parking rules

You must not stop your vehicle (that is, bring it to a stop and either stay with the vehicle or leave it parked) in the following circumstances:

• Double parked (that is in the road alongside a car that is parked)

• On or across a driveway or footpath

ROAD RULES 2014 198 Obstructing access to and from a footpath, driveway etc

(1) A driver must not stop on a road in a position that obstructs access by vehicles or pedestrians to or from a footpath ramp or a similar way of access to a footpath, or a bicycle path or passageway unless:

(a) the driver is driving a public bus that is dropping off, or picking up, passengers, or

(b) the driver stops in a parking bay and the driver is permitted to stop in the parking bay under these Rules. Maximum penalty: 20 penalty units.

Note. Bicycle path is defined in rule 239, and footpath, parking bay and public bus are defined in the Dictionary.

(2) A driver must not stop on or across a driveway or other way of access for vehicles travelling to or from adjacent land unless:

(a) the driver: (i) is dropping off, or picking up, passengers, and (ii) does not leave the vehicle unattended, and (iii) completes the dropping off, or picking up, of the passengers, and drives on, as soon as possible and, in any case, within 2 minutes after stopping, or

(b) the driver stops in a parking bay and the driver is permitted to stop in the parking bay under these Rules.Maximum penalty: 20 penalty units. Note 1. - Adjacent land is defined in the Dictionary.

Note 2. - A driver stops on or across a driveway or way of access if any part of the vehicle is on or across the driveway or way of access—see rule 350. Example: Blocking a Driveway

.

In the example, the vehicle marked with an “X” is stopped in contravention of subrule (2).

3) For this rule, a driver leaves a vehicle unattended if the driver leaves the vehicle so that the driver is over 3 metres from the closest point of the vehicle.

Parallel parking

This is the usual way to park unless signs tell you otherwise.

You must park in the same direction as the adjacent traffic and parallel and as close as possible to the kerb. On a one-way street, you may also park on the right hand side of the road.

You should be entirely within any marking lines and at least one metre from any other parked vehicle.

Bus zone

This sign means that in the direction of the arrow or arrows you are not allowed to stop your vehicle unless you are driving a bus.Hours of operation may apply to some signs. This means restrictions apply for those times only.
