Statement from Bishop Oscar Cantú and the Diocese of San Jose regarding shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival

Our hearts are heavy with sadness in the wake of the horrific shooting that claimed the lives of at least three innocent victims and injured several others at the Gilroy Garlic Festival on Sunday. I am grateful for the first responders and individual citizens whose quick thinking and professional actions saved countless lives.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, survivors and their families in this time of sorrow. May God, the source of our faith and strength, grant comfort and hope to all those affected by acts of violence. May grief give way to healing and grace, as we work together to protect the innocent and prevent future massacres, so that peace may prevail in our hearts and communities.

Here at St. Elizabeth of Portugal we continue to pray for the victims, survivors and first responders during our daily masses. May the Lord heal their hearts with his grace.

Nuestros corazones están llenos de tristeza a raíz del horrible tirotéo que cobró la vida de al menos tres seres inocentes e hirió a varios otros en el Festival de Ajo en Gilroy el domingo. Estoy agradecido a los socorristas y ciudadanos, cuyos pensamientos rápidos y acciones profesionales salvaron innumerables vidas. Using Our Time Wisely

A jar of honey lasts practically forever. The oldest jar of honey ever discovered was over five thousand years old. Honey is quite different from market-fresh produce, then; because most fruits and vegetables last only a few days, we treat them carefully. At this time of summer, we rush to find recipes for cherries and cucumbers so we won’t waste a single one. We wouldn’t feel that same urgency about honey. In our own way, we are as delightful and fragile as ripe produce. Today’s readings urge us not to spoil, but to make good use of our limited time on earth. Ecclesiastes reminds us that because God provides for us now and always, we can manage our daily affairs without anxiety. Saint Paul encourages the Colossians to keep thoughts of heaven in everything they do, and Jesus himself asks us to treasure not earthly wealth, but God alone. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Safe Environment Training

If you are a volunteer at St. Elizabeth, you need to be current with your requirements of fingerprinting and attending a Safe Environment class.

Safe Environment Training Class certification needs to be renewed every three years.

We are offering this training in our facility as follows:

RCIA Program

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is for those interested in learning about the Catholic faith, and for those wanting to complete the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, or Confirmation.

RCIA is a process through which one gets to know our Lord Jesus Christ, as revealed in Holy Scripture and in Holy Tradition.

The RCIA group meets Sunday mornings from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, in the St. John the Baptist Room from September 22nd through Pentecost. For more information, or if you would like to register for the program, please contact the Parish Office at (408) 262-8100.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus, May God bless you this week and may your homes be filled with Grace and Peace.

We all have experience working in different activities, be it the field, industry, an office, government, education and many more. Our work gives us a salary with which we can provide our families housing, food, education, recreation and a decent life. The human being knows why he works and what he works for. Uniting intelligence, skills and motivations, a person may progress and seek not only a salary, but satisfaction and personal fulfillment. God made the universe with all its functions and put the human being at the center of everything, so we have the responsibility to steward this gift, so that one day we deliver good accounts. But it's not about working and working, just to accumulate money and things. It is about being happy and sharing with others the fruits of our work, so that there is no hunger, and no one in need, otherwise it is only vanity (Sirach 1,2; 2:21-23). There are some companies and people who take pride in what they have achieved, and what they have accumulated over the years, and it is good because it is the fruit of an effort. But what is not good is how they achieved it, since their wealth is based on the exploitation of the worker, who is given hard days and a miserable salary. This makes the worker and his family live with sadness and anxiety, and this produces divisions between who has a lot and who has nothing. The Church calls us to have a little justice. The vision of Christ is that we are good stewards of earthly goods, so that we may be welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven. He calls us not to accumulate goods that at the end of life we cannot take with us; sharing and being generous with the needy leads us to receive blessings and gratitude from others. What good does it do having a good car if that makes it impossible to take our children to school, or to take our elderly parents out for a tour? If maybe, we only have it for vanity and arrogance? Happiness does not consist of having material satisfactions, but in using those resources to become skillful stewards who offer work, wages and relief to those who need, so they obtain something worthy to bring food to their table and to build their home. We will take nothing with us one day, but on that day, we have to show up at Our Father's house smiling because we have done the right thing and are not ashamed, full of abuse and an empty life (Luke 12, 13-21). See things the way they are: clearly, truly, and correctly. This is the kind of realistic mind you must have in order to be a leader who relies on objective facts.

Set formulas are mechanical and mindless. It is useless to be weighed down by procedures, and getting lost in small details is narrow minded. You must take an overall view of situations and be flexible at all times. You will need advisers, experts, and especially your own resolute will.

You must develop and cultivate your talents so that you may be able to serve more efficiently.

If you are a leader who lacks the ability to lead, you will not only suffer the loss of prestige, but you will also lack credibility.

Chúa nhật, ngày 4 tháng 08 năm 2019 Anh Chị Em thân mến trong Chúa Giêsu Kitô, Xin Chúa chúc lành cho Quý vị và cầu mong an bình và hạnh phúc luôn ở cùng Quý vị và Gia đình. Tất cả chúng ta đều có kinh nghiệm làm việc trong các hoạt động khác nhau, có thể là lĩnh vực giao dịch

bên ngoài, ngành Công nghiệp, Văn phòng, Chính phủ, Giáo dục và nhiều hơn nữa. Công việc làm đáp ứng cho chúng ta đồng lương mà chúng ta có thể chu toàn cho Gia đình chén cơm manh áo, nhà ở, học vấn, giải trí và một cuộc sống đàng hoàng. Mọi người đều hiểu biết tại sao mình phải làm việc và làm việc để làm gì! Cùng với bản chất thông minh, khả năng và thúc đẩy, một người có thể tấn tới và đạt được không chỉ tiền lương, nhưng kèm theo sự hài lòng và thỏa vọng cá nhân. Thiên Chúa tạo ra vũ trụ với tất cả chức năng và đặt loài người làm trung tâm của mọi thứ, vì thế chúng ta có trách nhiệm quản lý món quà này, để một ngày nào đó chúng ta mang lại những hữu ích giá trị. Cuộc đời không phải chỉ thuần là làm việc và làm việc chỉ để tích lũy tiền bạc, gia tài sự sản. Nhưng cuộc đời còn bao hàm niềm hạnh phúc và chia sẻ với người khác những hoa trái việc làm của mình, để không có người bị đói rách, bị thiếu thốn, còn ngoài ra thì chỉ là chuyện phù du. (Sirach 1:2; 2:21-23).

Có những công ty và có những người rất tự hào về những gì họ tạo được, và những gì họ đã tích lũy qua nhiều năm, điều này rất hay vì đó là thành quả của nhiều nỗ lực. Nhưng điều không hay là bằng cách nào họ đạt được điều đó. Nếu sự giàu có của họ đến từ sự bóc lột Nhân công, những người phải làm việc rất nhọc nhằn từng ngày với đồng lương khốn khó và do đó người Công nhân và Gia đình của họ luôn sống trong nỗi buồn và nỗi âu lo. Từ đây xảy ra sự cách biệt giữa người có quá nhiều và người không có lấy bao nhiêu. Giáo hội kêu gọi nơi chúng ta một chút công bằng. Cái nhìn của Chúa Kitô là chúng ta phải là những quản gia tốt của gia sản trần gian để có thể được chào đón vào Nước Trời. Ngài gọi chúng ta đừng tích lũy của cải mà đến cuối đời chúng ta không thể mang theo được; chia sẻ và hào phóng với người túng thiếu cho chúng ta nhận được phước lành và lòng biết ơn. Có một chiếc xe tốt để làm gì nếu nó không giúp được ta đưa con của chúng ta đến trường, hoặc đưa Cha Mẹ già của chúng ta đi đây đi đó? Có phải chúng ta có nó chỉ để biểu hiện cho sự phù phiếm, kiêu căng? Hạnh phúc không chỉ bao gồm sự thỏa mãn vật chất, nhưng còn là việc sử dụng các tài nguyên, gia sản để trở thành người quản lý giỏi tạo nên công ăn việc làm, tiền lương và cứu trợ cho những người cần đến, để họ dành được chút gì đó hầu xứng đáng mang thức ăn đến bàn ăn và xây đắp căn nhà của họ. Chúng ta sẽ không mang gì theo được với chúng ta vào ngày cuối, nhưng vào ngày đó, khi chúng ta đến Nhà Cha của chúng ta, chúng ta sẽ mỉm cười vì chúng ta đã làm những điều đúng đắn và không xấu hổ, không đầy lạm dụng và không sống một đời sống rỗng không. Chúa Nhật Thứ 18 Thường Niên - Năm C Làm Giàu Trước Mặt Chúa

Bài đọc 1: Gv. 1:2; 2:21-23 Ðoạn sách này nhắc con người nhớ rằng: của cải phù vân nay còn mai mất, nên chúng ta cần sử dụng của cải mình làm ra cách khôn ngoan để phụng sự Chúa và phục vụ tha nhân.

Bài đọc 2: Cl. 3:1-5;9-11 Thánh Phaolô kêu gọi các Tín hữu hãy từ bỏ con người cũ tội lỗi, sống nên người mới theo gương Chúa Kitô, để trở nên hình ảnh đích thực của Thiên Chúa, là siêng năng làm việc hằng ngày.

Tin Mừng: Lc. 12:13-21 Tin Mừng thuật lại Chúa Giêsu từ chối chia gia tài, vì là việc phụ thuộc. Ðiều quan trọng là lo làm việc lành phúc đức hằng ngày, để bảo đảm cho cuộc sống vinh hiển trên trời.

Lòng chúng ta rất đỗi đau buồn sau vụ nổ súng kinh hoàng khiến ít nhất ba người vô tội thiệt mạng và nhiều người bị thương tại Hội chợ Tỏi ở Gilroy. Tôi ghi ơn những nhân viên công lực và một số cá nhân đã đáp ứng thật nhanh chóng và hữu hiệu, cứu được không biết bao nhiêu mạng người.

Tôi nghĩ đến và cầu nguyện cho các nạn nhân, những người sống sót, và gia đình của họ trong lúc đau thương này. Nguyện xin Thiên Chúa, nguồn mạch đức tin và sức mạnh, ban ơn an ủi và hy vọng cho tất cả những ai bị tổn thương do những hành vi bạo lực. Chớ gì sự than khóc và đau buồn được xoa dịu và chữa lành, trong khi chúng ta cùng nhau tìm cách bảo vệ người vô tội và ngăn ngừa những vụ thảm sát trong tương lai, hầu bình an được lan rộng và tràn ngập trong cõi lòng, trong các cộng đồng. Xin Cộng đoàn tiếp tục cầu nguyện cho các nạn nhân và gia đình của họ.!

Estimados Hermanos y hermanas en Cristo Jesús:

Dios les bendiga en esta semana y que sus hogares estén llenos de Gracia y Paz. Todos tenemos la experiencia del trabajo en diferentes actividades, sea el campo, la industria, la oficina, gobierno, educación y muchas más. El trabajo nos da un salario con el que podemos proveer a nuestras familias, una vivienda, alimentación, educación, recreación y una vida digna. El ser humano sabe porque trabaja y para que trabaja. Unidos en inteligencia, habilidades y motivaciones hacen que una persona progrese y busque no solamente un salario sino la satisfacción y realización personal. Dios hizo el universo con todas sus funciones y puso al ser humano como centro de todo, por lo que tenemos la responsabilidad de administrar este regalo, a fin de que un día entreguemos buenas cuentas. Pero no se trata de trabajar y trabajar, solo para acumular dinero y cosas, se trata de ser feliz y de compartir con los demás de esos recursos del trabajo, a fin de que no haya hambre y nadie pase necesidad, de otro modo solo es vanidad. (Eclesiástico 1,2;2:21-23). Hay empresas y personas que presumen de lo que han conse-guido, y de lo que han acumulado a lo largo de los años y está bien porque es el fruto de un esfuerzo, pero lo que no está bien es como administran, ya que su riqueza se basa en la explota-ción del trabajador, al que ofrecen jornadas duras y un salario miserable, que hace vivir con tristeza y preocupación al trabajador y su familia y que produce divisiones entre el que tiene mucho y el que nada tiene, la Iglesia nos llama a tener un poco de justicia. La visión de Cristo es que seamos buenos administradores de los bienes terrenos a fin de que seamos bienvenidos en el Reino de los Cielos, nos llama a no acumular bienes que al final de la vida no podemos llevarnos, pero que el compartir y el ser generoso con los necesitados, nos lleva a recibir bendiciones y agradecimiento de los demás. ¿De qué, nos sirve tener un buen auto si eso imposibilita llevar a nuestros niños a la escuela, o de paseo a nuestros padres ancianos? Si quizá solo lo tenemos por vanidad y arrogancia. La felicidad no consiste en tener satisfacciones materiales sino en que el tenerlas debe volvernos hábiles administradores que otorgan trabajo, salarios y alivio a quien necesita y obtiene algo digno para llevar y construir su hogar. Nada nos llevaremos un día, pero en ese día hay que presentarnos en la casa de Nuestro Padre sonrientes porque hemos hecho lo correcto y no avergonzados llenos de abusos y una vida vacía. Usando Nuestro Tiempo Sabiamente Un frasco con miel prácticamente dura por siempre. El frasco de miel más antiguo descubierto tenía casi más de cinco mil años de antigüedad. La miel es muy diferente de cualquier otro alimento producido; entonces porque muchas frutas y vegetales solo duran unos pocos días si las cuidamos. En este tiempo del verano, nos apresuramos a encontrar recetas para cerezas y pepinos para no desperdiciar ni uno solo. Pero no tendríamos la misma prisa para la miel. En nuestra propia manera, somos como una de esas frutas y vegetales frágiles y maduros. Las lecturas de hoy nos sugieren a no echarnos a perder, sino a hacer un buen uso de nuestros limitado tiempo en la tierra. El libro del Eclesiastés nos recuerda que ya que Dios provee para nosotros ahora y siempre, podemos administrar nuestros asuntos diarios sin ninguna ansiedad. San Pablo anima a los colosenses a mantener pensamientos del cielo en todo lo que hacen y Jesús mismo nos pide que no atesoremos riqueza terrenal sino solo a Dios. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Tradiciones de Nuestra Fe

Del 1 al 5 de agosto los capitalinos en El Salvador celebran la fiesta del Salvador del Mundo, cuando recuer-dan la Transfiguración de Jesús en el Monte Tabor. Como muchas fiestas patronales en Latinoamérica esta se-mana está llena de car-navales y desfiles. La celebración principal es una procesión religiosa con la imagen de Jesús, el Divino Salvador del mundo. La estatua de Jesús con sus brazos

extendidos en bendición es llevada desde la Basílica del Sa-grado Corazón hasta la Catedral Metropolitana. Vestida de un rojo que recuerda su pasión, la imagen es cargada sobre los hombros de una veintena de fieles. Al llegar a la catedral la imagen patronal es puesta en una torre de más de 20 metros de alto. Eventualmente la estatua revestida de blanco aparece de una esfera encima de la torre en medio de gritos, aplausos y cantos. Esta esfera azul representa el mundo entero, mundo salvado por Cristo. La transfiguración de esta imagen en San Salvador recuerda la pasión y resurrección de Jesús, eventos claves que han hecho de él, el Salvador del Mundo entero. —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, © Copyright © J. Grupo de Oración Resurrección y Vida

Invitamos a la comunidad a compartir con el Grupo de Oración Resurrección y Vida todos los miércoles a partir de las 7:00 pm en la iglesia. Nos reunimos para aprender más de la palabra, dar gracias a nuestro Padre Dios por las maravillas que hace, venimos a ofrecerle alabanzas y también tenemos conferencistas que los invitamos a darnos testimonios de fe, esperanza y caridad.

Escuche el llamado de Jesús y venga a adorarle y glorificarle.

Programa de RICA

Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos (RICA) es para los interesados en la fe católica, y para los que quieren recibir el Bautizo, la Primera Comunión, o la Confirmación.

RICA es un proceso por el cuál uno se familiarizá con nuestro Señor Jesucristo,

según fue revelado en la Santa Escritura y en la Santa Tradición.

El grupo de RICA se reúne semanalmente el martes de 7:00 pm a 9:00 pm en el Salón de San Gerónimo a partir del 24 de septiembre hasta la festividad de Pentecostés. Para mayor información, o si desea registrarse en el programa por favor llame a la Oficina Parroquial al 408-262-8100.

Entrenamiento de Ambiente Seguro

Si es voluntario en Santa Elizabeth necesita tener las huellas digitales y también asistir a este entrenamiento de Ambiente Seguro. La certificación debe ser renovada cada tres años.

La clase es el sábado 28 de septiembre, en la iglesia a las 10:00 de la mañana. Clase será en inglés.
