Continued from yesterday: The rich man hired ruffians to pursue Reb Nachum of Chernobyl’s daughter….

Naturally, this episode caused a great commotion in the Rebbe’s household and when Reb Nachum found out who caused his daughter’s suffering, he was very angry and shortly thereafter, the rich man died.

When the man’s case was brought before the Heavenly Court, the Judges were almost going to issue a severe judgment against him because he caused suffering to such a great Tzaddik. However, a defending angel stood up and noted his good deeds and how he had supported the Rebbe for years.

After much back and forth, a decision was made that the rich man would be given the chance to appease the Rebbe and if he managed to do so he would reap the reward for all the good deeds he had done.

Two angels came and escorted the rich man to Reb Nachum. When the man’s soul came to the Rebbe and begged forgiveness, the Rebbe told the man to list out all his sins one by one and after each sin was stated the Rebbe affirmed his forgiveness. At last, the man stated the episode with Reb Nachum’s daughter and at that point the Rebbe said, “This I cannot forgive. It was also against

my holy ancestors, not just about my daughter and me.”

After this, the angels took the rich man and returned him to the Heavenly Court where it was decreed that he would have to return to Olam Hazeh and suffer from terrible afflictions.

After Reb Nachum Chernobyler passed away he came to his son in a dream and asked him to take a certain youth with skin diseases into his home. The second Chernobyler Rebbe refrained from helping the man despite his suffering for he knew it was to atone for his earlier sins. However, on that day, the Rebbe could no longer hold himself back and he forgave the man for his sins and thus mission accomplished, the man’s soul returned to heaven completely rectified.

For years, researchers have known that there is an undeniable link between physical activity and brain health. Studies have shown that people who are physically active have a reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease, as compared to those who lead a more sedentary lifestyle. Additionally, research has shown that physical activity can slow brain aging.

However, many of these studies are done retrospectively, looking at how prior activity influenced later brain health and cognition. This left Swedish researchers wondering if seniors who were currently exercising would show differences not only in cognition and memory, but also biomarkers of brain health.

To test this, they relied on the Prospective Investigation of the Vasculature in Uppsala Seniors (PIVUS) study, which was started in 2001 and includes more than 1,000 seniors aged 70 and older.

Researchers classified participants’ physical activity as the number of activities performed for at least 30 minutes a week and placed them into one of four categories: very low, low, medium or high. They assessed cognitive status and brain health with several tests and took MRIs.

They found that those participants who reported more frequent

physical activity scored better on the overall cognitive and verbal fluency tests. And more activity was associated with better memory performance.

Additionally, more physical activity positively correlated with greater total brain volume, as well as greater white matter volume (represents connections between processing centers in the brain). And more activity was associated with greater gray matter volume (represents information processing centers in the brain) in the areas of the

brain that are normally associated with structural and functional deficits in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease.

Given this, researchers concluded that physical activity “represents a lifestyle component that is linked to variance in

measures of brain health, such as brain volume and cognition.”

It’s comforting to know that you can help preserve not

only brain health, but also memory and cognition, simply by moving your body.
