1. INTRODUCTION

This user guide is intended to give students an overview of the policies and process of module

registration and to help students to perform various functions such as planning of class timetable and

adding of modules in the module registration system (MRS).

Please read this guide carefully. It might be useful to keep this document open in a separate window

as a form of reference during the registration period.

This guide will be updated regularly. Students can write in to [email protected] for

query not covered in this guide.

The class timetable will be released one week before registration

begins in the Student Portal for viewing. The venue and the name

of the professor in-charge are shown in the timetable.

a) This activity occurs during week 10 – 11. Students will follow

their scheduled registration date and time to register for modules.

b) Students are allowed to make changes (add or drop modules) to

their personalized timetables during their scheduled timeslots.

c) A module is confirmed once it is successfully added into the

personalized timetable.

a) The Add/Drop period starts on the first Tuesday till the 2nd Friday

of a new trimester (Instruction week 1 – 2). Students can make final

changes to their personalized timetable during Add/Drop.

b) The tuition fees billing is based on the number of registered

credits at the end of Add/Drop period.

Credit Exemption

(from Trimester 2

onwards)

From Trimester 2 onwards, credit exemption application window

period occurs during week 7. This window period is restricted to

certain degree programmes. Students will be informed by their

Programme Director on the application process via email or LMS.

3. IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Students will register for modules before the release of the examination result. As such, every

trimester module registration is based on the assumption that students have passed all the modules

taken in the current trimester.

After the examination results are released in the first week of the following trimester, student who

did not pass/clear the pre-requisite of a module that he/she has registered, the registered module will

be dropped for him/her. Therefore, students are advised to check their personalized timetables again

during Add/Drop period.

SIT reserves the right to withdraw or amend the timeslot of any modules. Classes may be rescheduled

or cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. Students will be informed in advance of any changes

by email.

4. PLAN TIMETABLE

Before registering for modules, students are strongly advised to know the following:

a) Academic Guide – covers academic polices, including exam guidelines.

b) Modules offered – the list of modules offered by trimester. Students can use the Registration

Worksheet in Annex A to help them work out a draft timetable.

Academic Guide is found at

the left-hand column of the

landing page, under ‘Quick

Links’.

Step 1: At the Student Portal

homepage, move the cursor

to ‘Academic Matters’ tab

and click on ‘Module

Offered’.

Step 2: Select the trimester

period from the drop down

menu.

c) Exam Timetable – to check the exam schedule of each module

d) Module Synopsis – modules’ description which can be viewed in SIT website under the respective

degree programmes.

e) Academic Advisor – students are encouraged to look for their assigned advisor for academic

advising when in doubt. The academic advisor would be able to advise students on academic

progression, timetable planning, clarify educational and career goals, etc.

f) Registration schedule – Registrar’s Office will put up the registration schedule in the Student Portal.

Similar announcement will also be made via email closer to the registration period.

5. ACADEMIC LOAD

The normal module workload per trimester varies with each programme as follows:

Pharmaceutical Engineering Up to 35 credits

Bachelor of Science with Honours in Occupational Therapy

Up to 35 credits

Honours Degree In Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy

Up to 35 credits

Bachelor of Science with Honours in Diagnostic Radiography

Up to 35 credits

Bachelor of Science with Honours in Radiation Therapy

Up to 35 credits

Bachelor of Science with Honours in Nursing Up to 30 credits

Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Telematics (Intelligent Transportation Systems Engineering)

Up to 30 credits

Bachelor of Food Technology with Honours Up to 30 credits

* This excludes IWSP and Enhancement modules.

Students who wish to read more than the normal workload are required to seek approval from the

Programme Director during the registration period. However, students of some programmes are not

allowed for overloading, depending on the conditions set by the Programme Directors. Students who

have attained CGPA≥3.5 and are not in his/her first trimester of study will be eligible to apply. Please

follow the instructions under item 6.6 to request for overloading. Once the request is approved,

students can register the additional module(s) during Add/Drop period.

6. MODULE REGISTRATION (STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE)

This section provides instructions on how to navigate the online registration system. Please do not use

the browser’s BACK button if you wish to go back to previous page, as it will automatically log you out

of the session. Always use the onscreen navigation controls provided.

6.1 Getting Started

(i) Login to Student Portal during the stipulated period.

(ii) Place your cursor at ‘Academic Matters’ tab, and click on ‘Module Registration & Add/Drop’

(diagram below)

(iii) The following message will appear to ensure that students understand the ‘Terms and Conditions’

before registering for modules. To proceed, tick the checkboxes and click ‘I Agree’.

6.2 Add Module

A module may consist of more than 1 type of delivery modes; lecture, tutorial, seminar and/or

laboratory. If the delivery modes of a module is grouped together, this will be known as a bundle. A

bundle may contain lecture and tutorial; or lecture together with both tutorial and laboratory.

A module may have more than 1 bundle especially when the student numbers are large (E.g. Bundle

1, Bundle 2 etc.); and to provide students with more choices in terms of schedule and flexibility to plan

their timetables.

Students are not allowed to register for modules if there are clashes with class and exam timetable.

Below are some of the senarios that you might encounter:

Senario#1

If you encounter a module timetable as shown below, you must add ‘Lecture’ class of the module first,

before proceeding to add tutorial/seminar/laboratory of the same module.

An error message will appear if you did not register for the lecture first:

Once a tutorial/seminar/laboratory is added, students will not be allowed to select another

tutorial/seminar/laboratory class of the same module, unless he/she drops the registered group.

Senario#2

Some higher level modules required students to obtain a passing grade/exemption of a lower module

(pre-requisites) before he/she can read and register the module. Students who do not meet the

condition will be restricted from adding the module as shown below:

Senario#3

In this senario it shows that a co-requisite module that was not previously successfully completed or

exempted and must be taken concurrently with the higher level module. An example shown below,

a student must add ICT1009 first before adding ICT1008.

6.3 Drop Module

Step 1: Click the ‘Remove’ button to drop

module from the ‘Registration’ section.

Step 2: Click ‘Ok’.

The drop module (e.g. ICT1009) has shifted down

from the ’Registration’ section to ‘Modules

Offered’ section.

6.4 Exempted Module

Students who have been granted credits exemption during the application window period are not

required to register for the exempted modules. The exempted modules are reflected under the

‘Modules Offered’ section as shown below:

6.5 Add/Remove module on Waitlist

When a class is full (no more vacancies), students may place the modules on waitlist for the

Programme Director’s consideration. If the request is successful, the module will be automatically

added into the student’s timetable.

Students can view the waitlist status under ‘Academic Matters’ tab -> Module overload and waitlist.

Step 2: Provide reason(s) in the message box.

Step 1: Click

‘Place on

Waitlist’.

Step 3: Click ‘Submit’.

6.6 Module Overload – add additional module(s)

Students on good academic standing (TGPA/CGPA of 3.5 and above) can request to read additional

module(s) on top of their normal workload.

a) Click the ‘Add’ button of the module that you wish to overload. A pop-up message will appear as

below:

b) Click ‘Ok’ to proceed. The request will be submitted to Programme Director for consideration.

c) On your registration activity page, the ‘Action’ status will be changed to ‘Overload Pending

Approval’.

d) To check the status of your request, go to ‘Academic Matters’ tab - > Module Overload

e) Students will add the approved overload module(s) during Add/Drop period.

The outcome will be reflected under

the ‘Status’ column (Approve/Reject)

once Programme Director has

evaluated.

6.7 Check and save class timetable

Students must check their final timetable via Student Portal -> ‘Academic Matters’ tab -> Module

Timetable as shown below. Students can only attend classes and attempt exam papers for modules

that are officially registered.

Select the

7. ADD/DROP PERIOD

The add/drop period is on the first two instruction weeks of every trimester. This window period

provides an opportunity for students to make final changes to the registered modules or personalized

timetable. Modules dropped during this period will not be reflected on the official transcript.

Tuition fee amount will be finalized and payable once the Add/Drop period is closed.

8. SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS

a) Students on IWSP

Students who are on IWSP are not allowed to register for any modules. IWSP will be registered for

students after the Add/Drop period. Registrar’s Office will inform the students via email once the

module is officially registered.

b) Students with Disabilities

Special arrangements can be made for students who are unable to register due to disability. Students

who fall into this category should alert Registrar’s Office at [email protected] for

special arrangements as early as possible.

c) Pre-allocation

Certain groups of students will have their modules pre-allocated to them before the registration

begins. Such students will not be required to register for any modules. Registrar’s Office will release

the timetables to the students for viewing and a printable copy is also available. An email

announcement will be made closer to the registration period (week 10 – 11).

9. MODULE WITHDRAWAL (AFTER ADD/DROP PERIOD)

When a student withdraws a module after week 2, a W grade will be recorded on the result slip and

transcripts. No refund will be given for the withdrawn module(s).

9.1 Submit Module withdrawal Application

(i) Login to Student Portal during the stipulated period (after week 2).

(ii) Place your cursor at ‘Academic Matters’ tab, and click on ‘Module Withdrawal Application.

(iii) Select the module that you wish to drop by clicking the ‘Withdraw’ button (diagram below).

(iv) An email notification will be sent to your Programme Director to assess your request.

(v) Once the request has been evaluated, you will receive an email informing you of the outcome.

(vi) You may also obtain a copy of the module withdrawal letter by clicking the

on your top right-hand corner.
