Adriatico-Ionica rappresenta l'ambito d'in-

Presentation
The fact that the world population ispre-dominantly urban now, for the first time
in human history, it is no longer a noveltyfor a few years. What is less known is thefact that the statistics refer to a concept ofthe city now out for well over time.
The meaning of city indeed changeddramatically. The issue ofurban cultural
heritageitself concerns more and morecountries of all continents.
The theme of creative cities has beenvery developed and articulated since it wasformulated, in particular by Charles Landry,
in the eighties.Programs like the European Capitals ofCulture certainly belong to this field, which
are still a great ambition for many munici-palities since 1985.
This theme, in a broad sense, also appliesto other phenomena, less visible but no
less important: those that reveal a generalwillingness, exacerbated by the crisis, to
assume more and more a role ofactivecitizenship.
The Summer School of Bologna University Ravenna Campus, in coordination withthe ISES Summer University (Institute for
Social and European Studies and CorvinusUniversity of Budapest), addresses this
issue by following both paths: creativecities more traditionally designed, and newcreative communities, combining thetheoretical and methodological perspec-tives with the analysis and development of
practical case studies. The annual Sum-mer School has the dual aim to train youngscholars in this new vision of the urban, en-couraging them to apply the new knowl-edge to their areas of study and
intervention, and to foster debate and criti-cal exchange between experts, scholars,
andstudents.
The geographic area the program will pri-marily focus on is the Mediterranean (in-cluding theAdriatic-Ionian macro-region
as the area of interest more immediate andspecific), while the partner ISES will providethe program his long research and trainingexperience on the area of Central Europe.
