Data sheet

Performing anywhereYou understand the difference mobility makes to an organisation. Both in customer satisfaction (86% of mobility-savvy organisations have seen or expect to see increases) and employee productivity (83% have seen it or expect it1).

People want freedom to work when and where they can be most productive. Outside work, they’ve become accustomed to using their mobile devices as remote controls for their lives. The at-home experience has raised their expectations and over one third of employees want ‘complete flexibility’ over when and where they work2. Mobilisation accelerates the process and helps you get closer to customers.

But making it happen is a challenge. Seamless and secure connectivity across networks, operating systems and different devices is tough. That’s why 78% of enterprises have a mobility strategy, yet 86% say they’re failing to use mobility to transform their business3. You may need to consider access in the building, at home and on the move; including the stress increased bandwidth is likely to put on networks. It has been estimated that 80% of enterprise wireless data traffic comes from inside the building4.

Then there’s security — for 64% of organisations, the security of enterprise data is the top concern when granting access from a mobile device5. How do you connect people to the data and applications they want on the move, while ensuring it’s secure, particularly given the wealth of unsecured personal devices?

BT’s view:Data anywhere drives performance

BT can help you see past these complexities, to focus on the things that count: getting your people (and your organisation) performing anywhere. It’s not the device that’s important, it’s the data.

Smart devices are just another way of accessing, consuming, creating and sharing information. As long as your critical data is secure, technology can connect employees, suppliers and customers safely and effortlessly, whichever device they use and wherever they are. With that understanding, and BT as your partner, you can set your people free.

How we can help: Setting the stage for connectivity and security

With the right approach to mobility, organisations can experience improvements of up to 24% in customer satisfaction, 21% in employee retention and 21% in employee productivity1. We deliver data and applications on the move by connecting to wireless access points, wi-fi hotspots and the mobile network so people have a seamless experience. We secure the data and the device so it’s always safe, regardless of where or how it’s accessed.

Here’s how we can help:

• We can optimise your LAN investment by giving people wireless access to your network in the building (WLAN), so they can connect and work in the way that’s best for them. Our services can help you manage the strain on your network with a solution tailored to your needs — from simple wireless connectivity to sophisticated device and device location aware capabilities.

• Keep your people connected outside the office with remote access to 6.5 million global hotspots through MobileXpress and reduce the cost of expensive data over 3G networks.

• Our Secure Remote Access gives you a way of using applications and accessing data while on the move through an SSL VPN and identity services.

• Mobile Device Management (MDM) helps you to secure, monitor and manage mobile devices.

• Secure, manage and deploy enterprise mobile applications with our Mobile Application Management (MAM).

Here’s proof: Letting stars shine, anywhere

• And we’re delivering this to our customers today and every day.

Helping our customers stay connected and secure

Flexible working for the Armed Forces with MOD BlackBerryIn the past, security concerns meant that Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Armed Forces personnel were unable to use a device that many of us today take for granted — a smartphone integrated with email. Squadron Leader Steve Donnellan, Military Air Accidents Investigation Branch, Royal Air Force says: “Without question, using the MOD BlackBerry is a game changer for the Military Air Accident Investigation Branch. The ability to access your Outlook contacts and DII emails whilst away from an office is invaluable”.

Free wi-fi drives customer service innovation for Barclays Bank As demand soars for public access to the internet over smartphones and tablets, in-branch wi-fi is right up there on banking customers’ wish lists. Knowing this, Barclays moved to steal a march on its rivals by quickly responding to that demand. Jamie Pooley, assistant manager at the Barclays Piccadilly branch says: “The other day a couple in the queue needed to urgently pay a house deposit but didn’t have some essential details with them. Using BarclaysFreeWifi, I was able to help them logon and retrieve the codes they needed, then arrange the funds transfer, all on the iPad. The woman, who was not a Barclays customer, was so impressed that she opened an account on the spot so she’d be able to use our Homeowner app in future”.

New internet-enabled network creates chemistry for growth at RhodiaWith flexible working high on the agenda, BT MobileXpress offers connectivity to the Rhodia corporate network for people in the field, irrespective of their location. Fernando Birman, Information Systems Director, Rhodia Brazil says: “Remote access enabled the business to continue to work effectively even in the face of the avian flu pandemic and transport disruptions across Europe, as well as adverse weather conditions during the North American winter”.
