A serie of international lectures in Maracaibo, Venezuela; started as a parallel educational format, having a strong approach toward the Latin-American practices, it follow a natural evolution to include the Iberian Peninsula. The guidelines where to include national consolidated offices, young foreign practices with a deep approach to the constructed practices for example Spanish arquitect Andres Jaque or the Chilean Mauricio Pezo, and experimental curatorial practices, for example the curator: Eva Franch from Storefront in New York and Ariadna Cantis who took the part of exhibition Freshlatino to Maracaibo.

WORKING AS LA SALA - LUGAR PARA LA ARQUITECTURA.

PROYECTOS INCONCLUSOS: Being: censored, forgotten, delayed, impossible, or rejected, this exhibition constitutes a unique manifest about speculation. Not every project is due to be build, sometimes they are conscious exercises to specific issues, sometimes manifest, sometime conceptual theories. The harsh situation related to the architects practice, generated by a strong delayed in our society, in part by the slow economy and the disinvestment of the government in non-propagandistic but pragmatic architecture, has left a great amount of intellectual resources embodied in projects that will never become. This situation is not new, actually it may have been around for the last 30 years. This exhibitions pretends to be a window to the shrunken expectations due to the low appreciation of architecture in Venezuela, an ephemeral catalyst for the generation of manifest about the discipline in our context. ///

La Torre de David, was direct answer to the award given the jury of the 2012 Venice architecture biennale to a team formed by architects UTT, the curator Justin Mcguirk, and the photography of Iwaan Baan, for a project called Gran Horizonte. This depicted the reality of the tallest slum in the world, a former financial center now invaded by slummers. The cultural community of the country was astonish by the shallow approach and the lack of information that surrounded this proposal being called as “reverse colonialism”. More amazing was that a deeper analysis was made years before by a couple of artist Angela Bonadies, and Juan Jose Olavarria, who in a slow, anthropological, approach could enter into this “white elephant”. This exhibitions show a series of photography, videos, and sculptures made by the artists, in parallel a recompilation of articles, ranging from the New York Times, local press, to architects blogs who discuss this specific issue, in a format to be read and taken away.

Making echo to the Pablo Neruda original title, THE (NEW) BOOK OF QUESTIONS, was a project by Mexican architect Evanguelina Guerra Lujan, the aim was to generate content by the thought of the readers, who were invited to think about the concept of “territories in process”, and instead of trying to find answer is through questioning ourselves and others, the way generate a concept.

PALOMINO SOCIETY IN CONSTRUCTIONLA GUAJIRA - COLOMBIA

Palomino is a small town at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and is home to Afro-Colombian and Kogui indigenous children. These minorities have suffered the most with Colombia’s blood-stained war and have been neglected basic rights, education and healthOur project’s vision is to provide basic services, implement the importance of education while still respecting their native rites and to help build sustainable peace for future generations. Our team believes in constructing spaces as a way of generating change. Through the use of collective intelligence we can help solve Palomino’s neglected physical infrastructure and poor urban conditions, making a positive impact on the urban environment and living conditions of the community.in this project I was in charge of documenting the urban phenomena as well as the needs of the people in search of creating a general urban plan of the town, developing a complex cartographic representation. for this was made a exhaustive tour, an interview program, updating of the plans of the town.

When the common tools of representation fail to commit its purpose, it's necessary to change the tools, Photographic section cuts of transversely and longitudinally through the whole town. Constructing a live and direct manifest of the situation. A 300mT long photography

4001 / IV MARACAIBO ART BIENNAL / VENEZUELA / 2012

Using photography as the documentation process, the idea was to capture domestic vernacular architecture in Maracaibo over the time frame of two years. The use of color, the lack of security barriers, the contact with the street, and the way in which the inhabitants live the urban life, the self-constructive process, sometimes the excessive vegetation sometimes desolated houses under the burning equatorial sun, are some of the features that prompt from these vernacular objects, is not an aesthetical pursue, but the products of history, of self-empowerment, and community. This is a catalog of singular objects, some of them have disappeared, must of them will soon disappear, given the way to anonymous and generic architecture.

PAPELEO / PAPERWORK / WORKING

WITH LAB.PRO.FAB - ALEJANDRO HAIEK - / CIURAD DE MEXICO / Nov 2014.

this was an project is an analytic essay , of the common practices in architecture and construction, where bureaucracy , rules and regulations, permits, generate an enormous quantity of paper. Reconstructing the surface of the gallery with a complex paper surface is a statement directed toward the hierocracy of “greenwashing” and the now so common sustainable branded architecture. This pattern is tight between wood frames; lights (lightbulbs) and controlled ventilation (using old computer fans) are activated by interactive sensors and programmed with Arduino. This kind of exercises constitutes a rehearsal of fabrication techniques using local intelligence and workforce, and digital design tools. This is the relation between the local and the global ecosystem using obsolete resources and applied technology.

TOWN PLANNING DESIGN WORKSHOP / POLITECNICO DI MILANO BY STEFANO BOERI AND MICHELLE BRUNELLO / - Milano Animal City / Installation at the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano

The installation is based on two element positioned over an exhibition device. The first one, a concrete slab found on site – a sort of ready-made – that carries the material and ideological significance of the site, and over which we intervene. We intervene the faces of the the slab, with an reticular array that become holes – pots for seeds -, the time will show the transference from this man made regular structure into the organic and irregular dominant shape of nature over the constructed, on top of the slab together with the iron bars are trap the dense rhizomes characteristic of hedges that now are tight to the iron bars rusted by time

A reconstruction of the floor of the site, using original bricks is made, and altered, using green guerrilla strategies such as, seed bombs, and moss graffiti, it’s a way to show the transference of man-made objects to nature dominated elements. This works in a propagandist perspective, we give away flyers with instruction of the – how to – start these process, we give seed bombs, to “Hack Milano” and take this natural common and controlled process to become a manifest of the illusion of our dominance over nature

COLLECTIVE MASS / MARACAIBO - VENEZUELA / 2012 / Thesis project at Universidad Del Zulia

This project is the result of a personal research and admiration towards multipurpose structures.

in this case the building is in front of one of the most important metro stations in the city, taking into account the population that moves this infrastructure is that the building is significant. First in an act of urban relevance its positioned in front of the elevated subway, not leaving to impose from this mega structure, second from the influence of the program at this point of high urban mobility.

The program is the most important point of this building, finding mixed in the structure a library, sports field, auditorium, research center and a temporary residence, this estructure ties the program and becomes a mass covered by a perforated metal skin wich makes it becomes permeable , and in a juggling act the building land as little as possible on the plaza level allowing maximum fluidity and the expansion of urban square.

In an urban operation the parking level lies underground while the upper plaza becomes a tree covered plaza respecting the original trees, and with a free Internet access , this being a statement in support of urban sustainability and free access to information.

TECTONICS OF THE COLLECTIVE MARACAIBO - VENEZUELA / 2010 / Finalist at 2010 National Architecture Contest. Diseñando Espacios.

The proposed intervention is to show a possible method of acting in urban gaps, that irrationally can be eliminated for being constrained or difficult to access , but under new visions, they can become centers for a new way of urbanity.

Located on a plot of land scarse in size, with a total area of about 480 square meters. Public administration refused to build a sports court requesting the community because of the vague ground surface, to which is also added using the same plot as parking and food sales market every weekend

The project takes its form from the demands of the community, the space could not contain all the programs that were requested , so a densification operation gesture was crucial due to limited condition , and including the existing programs as a way to transfer the site contained idiosyncrasy to an aesthetic product, resulting in a relatively simple conceptual operation , a footprint on the ground plane attentive to the limitations of municipal legislation , on which rests a plane that contain the field multipurpose sports, a kind of table, which structural supports transparency and instability illustrate their public status .

THE FUTURE IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE / MEDELLIN - COLOMBIA / A collaboration with the studios : Oficina Informal (COL) Elizabeth Añaños (PER) Estacion Espacial (CHI ) / 2011 / Winner of the contest “MEDELLIN SOÑADO” part of the BIAU

The project represents a general reflection that recognizes the city as a network of interconnected phenomena and understands that individuals and society as we are in the cyclical processes of nature. Similarly , assume that the architectural is mediated by different cycles (planetary and local) environmental, political, energy, economic, cultural, etc. Assuming this position, we propose an urbanism that translates the idea of construction for production and space by the atmosphere. Under the logic of shrinking is necessary to redefine our infrastructure according to a geographic territory . Thus understand infrastructure networks as drawing mobility and as an opportunity to revitalize the primeval geography of the place and small landscape phenomena everywhere contains or may contain .

Diversity is the foundation of the welfare

The slum as a laboratory for social innovation , new scenarios for the macro diversity , the city as the center of ecological innovation and geography as the new infrastructure are four macro explorations we understand necessary to continue to build a new image of Medellin.
