Outline
Objective
– To design a real time predictive variable peak demand control algorithm for energy storage systems
– Analytic load profile and Optimal ESS advisory tool: Web service
Methodology
– Define a suitable peak demand criterion range and ESS range, based on User’s contract size.
– Analytically find optimal peak criterion and optimal ESS that achieves best cost reduction.
Relevance
– We could achieve an optimal cost reduction by taking advantage of the trade off between reducing peak demand and increasing ESS size and how it affects cost.
Goal
– Develop a web service that provide on demand analysis into Consumption economics and also provide advisory on the choice of optimal ESS and peak criterion based on User’s past load profile
Future
– Stochastic peak demand prediction model for cost reduction
– Real time variable peak demand control algorithm

3. Impedance estimation
4. Cooperated Voltage regulation
Power System & Smart Energy Network Laboratory 36
Background
• BackgroundThe high penetration of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) and renewable energies
such as photovoltaic (PV) generations on power networks benefits both grid operators and consumers. Especially, in low voltage distribution network, coordinated operations regarding PEVs, PVs and electric storages can contribute to have renewable energies stable from the various view point such as voltage, frequency, system stability.
• ProblemsIn the almost all previous researches which mentioned to control of PEVs, PVs
and storage, they assumed the model network whose topology, impedance and parameters of generators are known. However, in actual power system it takes a huge cost to grasp these configurations. If you would like to know the information, so far, there is no way but to measure directly/manually and update the information continuously.
• Objective1. Identification of network topology2. Estimation of impedance3. Cooperated voltage regulation based on topology and impedance
Power System & Smart Energy Network Laboratory
Challenging Issues
• Need to identify
– Electrical topology
– Impedance in between the nodes
• Constraints
– Ad-hoc installation after construction
(No direct measurement is allowed)
– Node aggregation under same transformer
– Should be seamless without human intervention
– No phasor level synchronization

Topology from the view of Node2
For example, if each node control its load and PV by itself, Node2 cannot to operate its resources with considering the others'operation because Node2 doesn‘t know whether other nodes exist or not.

- SAS(Substation Automation System)개념이 정리되어 IEC61850규격화 달성

Power System & Smart Energy Network Laboratory
Introduction
Problem definition
There is a growing concern as energy resour
ces are limited and it is predicted that global
energy demand will double by the end of 20
30[2] with negative implications on the envi
ronment
Energy conservation is a challenging issue
due to exponentially increasing energy de
mands.
As the demand for energy rises, as a result
of proliferation of electronic and electrical
appliances, whiles maintaining constant or
reducing energy generation, there is the nee
d to optimize energy usage.
Power System & Smart Energy Network Laboratory
Introduction
Energy monitoring
Alternatively, a significant approach to reduce energy was
tage, can be achieved through fine-grained monitoring of
energy consumption and creating awareness of efficient en
ergy use [3][4].
Related research [5] indicates that proper load monitoring
of electrical appliance could reduce consumption by 5% to
15%.
Residential appliances and equipment account for 30% o
f all energy consumption in Organization for Economic
Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries [6].
The International Energy Association also predicts that e
lectricity usage for residential appliances would grow by
12% between 2000 and 2010, eventually reaching 25% by
2020[7].
The essence of these figures, highlight the importance of e
nergy management of building in order to improve envir
onmental intendancy
