Customizing Cross-System Viewer

Sometimes you want to compare the customizing settings between two systems or between 2

clients in the same system. This may be the case for example when some transaction(s) is/are

behaving differently between the 2 systems/clients and you have reason to suspect that somecustomizing is missing from one of them.

SAP® ERP offers a very flexible way to do that and it even gives you plenty of options inselecting exactly which part(s) of the IMG (Implementation Guide) that you want to compare.

It also allows you to “store” your comparisons for later use and reference. Let’s see how all

this is possible.

The transaction code that allows all that is SCU0 and it is accessible via Tools  Customizing

 Customizing Cross-System Viewer:

Fig. 1: Customizing Cross-System Viewer (transaction SCU0)

In the next screen you can select exactly what it is you want to compare:

The “project IMG” option would be valid if you have been customizing under a project , which is

very seldom the case in real-life project or maintenance support environments!

The “SAP reference IMG” option would be valid if you would like to compare the complete SAP

Reference IMG. Due to the huge amounts of tables, views etc that would be compared in thatcase, it is advisable to avoid this option.

The best option to use in most cases will be the “Choose components” option:

The system will then display the component structure where you can choose the relevantcomponents. In this case we want to compare the PS structures IMG structure:

Finally, the system will present you another selection screen where you can choose to•  Run the total comparison (of the objects in your selected structure) in the foreground;•  Run the total comparison (of the objects in your selected structure) in the background;

•  Display an overview of the objects in your selected structure in order to make a morespecific selection of objects to compare.

Notice the field “comparison run ID” on the top of the screen. This is a unique identifier of your

comparison run. Once the comparison run has been completed, you will be able to come backand display it at any time under this unique identifier.

Notice also the Q15clnt100 in the R/3 connection. This identifies the connection to the

“remote” system with which you want to compare the customizing settings. In my case, I amcomparing the test  system (T15 clnt 100) to the quality  system settings (Q15 clnt 100).

Depending on how many system objects are actually being compared, you will need to make athoughtful selection between a foreground/online run or a background comparison run.

In this example, we run the comparison in the background. Via SM37 you can keep track ofthe progress of the background job:

Once the job is finished, go back to SCU0, enter the ID of your comparison run and pressDisplay :

The system will then display an overview of your comparison run. As mentioned earlier, logon system is the test system T15/105 and the comparison system is the quality system Q15/100.

In this overview, you can see how many differences exist per object/sub-object. For example,Fig. 8 shows that 387 entries exist in the logon system in sub-object TCNF (this is a table)whereas in the comparison system there are no entries in this table at all.

If you wish, you can then select to display the customizing differences in the variousobject/sub-objects, or the statistics of the complete comparison run.

Here’s another example of a comparison run. In this case, we’re comparing the LogisticsExecution structure customizing:

Have a look at the type of statistics the system generated for this comparison run:
