Eat the frog


What’s your frog?

It’s probably the one thing, that if you tackled, would have the greatest positive impact

If you have two frogs, eat the ugliest one first

If you do have to eat a live frog, it doesn't pay to sit and look at it for a long time.

Wicked problemsWicked doesn't mean evil

It means resistant to solution

A wicked problem is a social or cultural problem that is difficult or impossible to solve

Sometimes, frogs are "wicked problems”

Characteristics of wicked problems

– Each situation is unique; your mystagogy problem is different than my mystagogy problem

– Difficult to measure success

– Solutions can only be better or worse, not true or false

– There is no template to follow; we have to make it up as we go

– There is always more than one explanation for a wicked problem

– Every wicked problem is the symptom of another problem

– Efforts to solve a wicked problem may cause other problems



How to deal with wicked problems

Involve everyone concerned in the conversation

Make everyone feel like they own the problem by being transparent

Concentrate on possibility rather than probability
