2.3. SOUND LEVEL

If the tractor has the cab, the sound level depends on the type of insulation of the cab. If the tractor has no cab or if the windows are open, the sound level of the machine when this is working, at a of 200 mm. from the rear window exceeds 85 dBa, therefore we suggest to use soundproofing headphones as prescribed by the laws of several Countries.

The SPIRAL roller is excellent in the preparatiion of the seed-bed, makes the soil rightly compact and leaves on the surface a transversally striped soil. This fact makes the seeding easier and the covering of the seeds in particular, ensuring the constant depth of the sowing.

3. SAFETY RULES

3.1. TO USE IN SAFETY

• Before the start-up, use and maintenance operation of the equipment, read carefully the use and maintenance manuals.

• The manufacturer disclaims all responsibility for damages to persons, animals or things due to the non-observance of the safety rules.

• It is absolutely forbidden to use the machine for purposes different from the ones expressly indicated in this booklet. • Avoid absolutely to touch in whichever way the parts in motion. • The machine and its eventual accessories for the transport on road must be complete with the necessary signs and adequate

protections. • Check carefully the adhesive labels on the machine and respect their indications. The relative decalcomanias of emergency

must be in evidence: they must be always cleaned and replaced if they become unreadable (eventually can be demanded to the concessionaire).

• During the manouvres do not allow the approaching of any person or animal within the operation range of the machine. • During the work do not allow the approaching of any person or animal within the

range of the sods and the stones projected by the machine. • It is absolutely forbidden to enter the area between the tractor and the machine

in order to operate the external controls of the hydraulic lifting device. • Sit always on the driver's seat and get off the tractor only after the power take off

has been disconnected and the parking brake has been activated. • During the working pauses, disconnect the power take off, switch off the engine, lay the machine on the ground and activate

the tractor parking brake. • Do not work without guards. • Do not use the machine as a transportation mean for persons, animals or things. • Do not work onto grounds or places which may compromise the stability of the machine. • Know the area in which it is being worked. Never operate in an area in which there are obstacles like stones sticks or roots

they would ruin integrity of the machine. • For the transport on road to always use the danger blinking. • With respect to the on-road circulation, observe the regulations in force in each country. It is very important to remember that

roadability, braking capacity and direction are influenced by the weight of the machine applied to the lifting device of the tractor; moreover, in bends consider the effect of the centrifugal force that move the machine center of gravity.

• Avoid to turn empty (outside of the land) with the machine. During the job

avoid to carry out curves with the buried machine, much less to work when you go behind. Lift always for the changes of direction and the reversals of march.

• During the transport, or every time the raising of the machine becomes necessary, is opportune that the lifter of the tractors comes regulated so that the same machine is not raised from earth in order more than 35 cm approximately. Avoid to go on public roads with the dirty machine of earth, grass or other that produce soil and prevent to the street traffic. Not decrease with violence the machine on the land but to make it slowly in order to concur graduates them insertion of the blades in the land.

4.9. TRACTOR STABILITY AND LIFTING CAPACITY CHECK

As far as road circulation is concerned, when coupling equipment onto the tractor to form a single unit, you can alter stability and make it difficult to drive and work.

When you add other machines to the tractor, you will change weight distribution over the axes. It is therefore recommended to add suitable ballasts to the front of the tractor in order to have a good weight over the axes. Calculate ballasts to be used, with the following formula:

M x s < 0,2 T x i + Z ( d + i )

( M x s ) – ( 0,2 T x i )

Z > -----------------------------------------------------------

( d + i )

where: i = tractor wheel interaxis (m) d = distance between the front axis and the front ballasts (m) s = rojection of machine from rear axis (m) T = tractor mass (kg) Z = ballast mass (Kg) M = equipment mass (Kg)

At least 20% of the total tractor-equipment mass should lie on the front bridge of the tractor. It must be noted, however, that stability can be improved with the right choice of tractor-equipment coupling and with the application of ballasts at the front, in the limits and methods indicated by the tractor manufacturer. Moreover, when the tractor halts, the machine should be lowered onto the ground. This also improves stability.

Tractor wheel interaxis i = ……………… m

Distance between the front axis and the front ballasts

d = ……………

Projection of machine from rear axis

s = ……………

Tractor mass T = …………… Kg

Ballast mass Z = …………… Kg

Equipment mass M = …………… Kg

5. STRUCTURE AND FUCTIONALITY Follow all the safety rules mentioned in section 3 of this manual, and read carefully the documentation about the correct use of the tractor. Make sure the machine is in perfect order, and that the oil is at the correct level (see section 6.6). Also make sure that all parts that wear and deteriorate easily (cardan, blades, etc.) are in perfect working order. As the machine must work horizontally, adjust the third arm point A so that the line B is parallel to the ground. Limit side oscillations by regulating the stabilisers of the tractor lifter. Be careful when using the machine for the first time. You must always activate and disengage the power takeoff when the rotor is a few centimetres above the ground. Use the tractor lifting controls so that the equipment comes into gradual contact with the ground. While the machine is working, the hydraulic lifter of the tractor should be loose, so that most of the machine weight is supported by the rear roller. The rear roller functions also as a leveller. Keep the machine raised from the ground EVERYTIME you reverse and/or change direction.

5.1. REGULATING THE WORKING DEPTH WITH SKIDS FOR FB - FG The depth working adjustment of the machine is determined by the position of the skids C. Practically, the increase of the working depth is obtained by shifting the skids to a higher hole A or using the two front hole B In order to reduce the depth, shift the pins A toward the bottom. We suggest to start always with one minimum working depth and then to increase it progressively until the required working depth is reached; pay attention to adjust both skids C in the same position. It is advisable a working depth of 80÷150 mm.

5.2. DEPTH ADJUSTMENT WITH ROLLER The depth working adjustment P of the machine is determined by the position of the levelling roller in relation to the lower edge of the blades. The greater the difference P between the blades and the lower part of the levelling roller, the greater the working depth. Practically, the increase of the working depth is obtained by shifting the proper pins A to a higher hole. In order to reduce the depth, shift the pins A toward the bottom. We suggest to start always with one minimum working depth and then to increase it progressively until the required working depth is reached. Make sure that all the pins A are in the same position during the work.

FB-FG-LG-KG

FZ-LZ-KZ It is advisable a working depth of 80÷150 mm.

5.3. SPEED ROTOR VARIATION In order to obtain the best possible crumbling of the soil, the following two factors must be taken into consideration: • The speed pf the tractor; • The rotation speed of blades rotor

Therefore, it is advisable to use the lowest possible speeds but which can give as a result a good working of the soil. The greater the number of the rotor revolutions, the greater the crumbling degree of the soil but also higher is the power absorbed by the tractor and the wear of the blades. It is clear that the faster the rotors rotate, the faster the tractor advance; at any rate, make sure not to exceed the speed limit of 8 km/h. The figure shown the available couple of gears, the couple standard is to make evident on the figure as serial mounting, the other couple are available on request.

The gear box allows the machine to work the soil with different rotor speeds, by using different gear couples available on request and interchangeable with those supplied standard. In order to invert or substitute the gear couple of the gear box, remove the lid C (making sure not to break the gasket), remove the springs D and the gears A and B and invert their position or replace them with new ones; then replace the springs D and the lid C by lightening the M10 screw E at not no more than 4Kgm. The figure shown the available couple of gears the couple standard is to make evident on the figure as serial mounting the other couple are available on request.

5.7. USE OF THE REAR BAR FOR ROTOLAMA LG-LZ AND ROTOPIK KG - KZ The rear bar is mounted alone on: ROTOLAMA LG and ROTOPIK KG and has the following functions: a) regulating the crumbling degree of the soil, the number of revolutions of the rotor and the driving speed remaining constant; b) horizontally levelling the soil. A higher degree of crumbling is obtained by lowering the bar, while a lower degree is achieved by lifting it, the regulation is possible with the two side cranks B.

Adjustment of the bar A Always begin working with the bar A completely lifted, position the machine, so as to reach the desired working depth.

Gradually lower the bar A using the crank B until the soil before. The roller becomes flattened. This is normally the ideal working position, even in soil clattered with grass or residual substances. If the soil is ploughed or free of residues, the bar can be lowered by a few strokes, in order to obtain an even finer degree of crumbling. Should this not be enough yet, it will be necessary either to increase the number of revolutions of the rotor or to decrease the driving speed of tractor. There is a limit beyond which the bar cannot be lowered, otherwise there will be a higher absorption of power, without an improvement in the work performance. This will be noticed even from the driver’s seat by observing the large quantity of soil being pushed forward by the rotor. Besides, the worked soil will not be well levelled. You will have to lift the bar according to.

IMPORTANT: The ALPEGO levelling bar is automatically self-adjusting. If the working depth of the equipment is changed, a parallelogram will keep the bar itself in the correct position. WORKING IN WET SOILS: under these conditions no fine crumbling of the soil is usually required. Therefore, it might be useful to work with the bar lifted and so also to reduce the number of revolutions of the rotors. This will certainly save the tractor energy. WORKING IN ROCKY SOILS : We suggest that, when working in this type of soils, the bar should be lifted or, even better, removed it altogether by loosing the two lateral bolts and the cranks.

5.8. PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT OF THE BONNET FB - FG To adjust the pressure of the bonnet must lock the blade A at the different holes B with the pin C. The springs on the vertical rods allow you to amortize and follow the unevenness of the ground.

Particularly stony soils is recommended to use the pin C on the float position F

5.9. PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT OF THE BONNET FZ

In order to adjust the pressure on the tailgate it is necessary to turn the spindle A to lower or lift the bars B.

The springs on the vertical bars act as shock absorbers and they make it possible to follow the ruggedness of the soil.

5.10. PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT OF THE BONNET LG–LZ / KG-KZ

In the rotolama LG-LZ and rotopik KG-KZ the tailgate works resting on the crumbling beam, its height must be adjusted, in order to prevent excessive pressure on the springs. If you work on very wet soil, keep the bonnet in a high position; adjust the set of holes B in a way

to have an easier material discharge. If you are working on stony ground, you should position the regulating pin in the lower hole F, to free the bonnet.

5.11. ADJUSTMENT OF THE SHOCK-ABSORBERS OF THE TAILGATE

The springs on the bars which are mounted on all the tailgates act as shock absorbers; the upper spring N will soften the sudden fall of the tailgate when the machine is lifted, while the lower spring M absorbs the shock caused by the ruggedness of the soil.

In order to improve the crumbling effect, in the machines Mod. FB-FG-FZ it is possible to change the load on the springs M by lifting or lowering the position of pin S on the bars; as a rule the shock absorbers are not supplied pre-loaded.

5.12. UNCOUPLING To uncouple the machine from the tractor: • disengage tractor power takeoff; • lower the equipment onto the ground, switch off the motor and pull the handbrake up. • Uncouple the cardan joint from the tractor power takeoff and place it in the support joint. • Uncouple the connections, following the operations given in section 4.3 but the other way round .

5.13. END OF SEASON OPERATIONS If you do not use the machine for long periods, follow the next steps in order to maintain its integrity: a) Wash the machine carefully, mostly remove any manure or chemical products etc, then dry it. b) Make sure that the machine is in perfect condition. c) Protect all unpainted metal parts with lubricant, then cover the machine or move it into a dry area. Keeping the machine in this condition will be an advantage – it will be ready for use the next time you need it.

6. MAINTENANCE

6.1. CHECKS AND CONTROLS During the first 8 working hours it is important to check that all bolts are perfectly tight, because the power generated while machine is at work moves the structure. If necessary tighten bolts as indicated in the chart. Repeat this check every 50 working hours. Check the blades, the tines and the tightness of their bolts on a daily basis.

6.2. REGULATING THE CARDAN SHAFT WITH SLIP CLUTCH The cardan joint of the machine can be provided has a friction clutch with discs for safety against overloads. The springs A, that are charged by screws B keep the pressure on the friction discs constant. By tightening the screws you increase the pressure on the friction discs, which intervene only with higher loads. The springs are set directly in the factory at:

540 1000 FB 27* 28,5 FG 30* 31

LG / KG 30 31* FZ / LZ / KZ - 37,5 * factory performed calibration

For a correct performance of the clutch, the force given out by the springs must not exceed certain values, otherwise everything will be blocked and safety devices could be neutralised. When you use the clutch you may have to tighten the bolts uniformly, because if the brake lining wears, the pressure will be reduced. WARNING : DO NOT tighten the screws as far as eliminating distance D - if you do this, you will block the clutch.

ALPEGO cannot be held responsible for any damage if the given indications have not been followed. If you fail to follow these indications, the guarantee will become immediately null and void.

6.3. CHECKING THE CLUTCH To make sure that the clutch safety device is working correctly you should check the temperature from time to time. Under heavy working conditions, it should be warm to the touch .

If the clutch is cold, it is blocked, so you should loosen uniformly all the screws that tighten the springs by : one half turn. If it is too hot the springs are too free, so you should tighten uniformly all the screws that tighten the springs by : one half turn.

6.4. CENTRAL PLOUGHSHARE Make periodical checks to see wornness of the central ploughshare B, and rotate or replace it if it is worn. The ploughshare point B should always be lower than the transmission guard A, in order to guarantee space (distance) at point C.

6.5. LUBRICATION Read the warnings written on the containers carefully. ALWAYS keep oils and greases out of the reach of children. Avoid contact with the skin. After using the product, wash hands well.

Follow the current anti-pollution laws when handling used oil. Before you start working, check lubricant level. Before checking, topping up or replacing lubricants, clean the parts carefully. Before you start working, check the speed change oil level (use a gauge or dip stick A). If necessary put more oil through plughole C - G. Oil should be changed after 30 working hours for FB – FG – LG – KG and 50 working hours for FZ – LZ - KZ, and after that, every 400 hours, or at least once a year. This should be done in an equipped workshop with lifting systems suitable for the machine, and stabilised with suitable supports. To drain oil, unscrew drainage plug B.

Check the oil level of the two external supports after the first 30 working hours, and then every 100 working hours. The oil level should reach supply plug D. When the machine is under heavy working conditions, these kind of interventions should logically increase.
