Questions to drive analysis:
Would these experiences lend themselves well to our students and situations?
Would the candidate likely have a knowledge basis that would allow them to meaningfully contribute to our current staff?
Has the candidate’s prior performance (either professionally or educationally) been impressive?
Rigorous Interview Process
Key features of the interview:
Explanation of previous experiences and educational opportunities
Explanation of content specific instructional strategy knowledge
Hypothetical situations
Analysis of ability to analyze data to inform instruction and to communicate in writing
Thorough Reference Conversations
Key questions to ask during the conversation:
What is their overall impression of the candidate?
Were there situations which the candidate handled well and those which they did not handle well?
Was the candidate able to communicate with students, colleagues, and parents effectively?
Would this person be considered for a position if the reference were the decision maker?
Following the Process
Explain to each candidate why the chosen candidate was selected for the position
Share suggestions with other candidates for improving their professional knowledge
Most importantly: Support the chosen candidate by implementing effective professional development
