SACNASSociety for Advancement Chicanos/Hispanics

and Native Americans in ScienceSACNAS presented to the SAA on September 25, 2015. Funds requested were used to help start up the organization with marketing materials and recruitment events.

Mission Statement: To further the work of, to improve the effectiveness of, and to enhance the public understanding of and appreciation for Chicanos, Latinos, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians and other underrepresented minorities in science

Awards: Oregon State University won the 2015 National SACNAS Chapter Role Model Award for Outstanding Development and Outreach

Cody Thompson Scholarship

The Cody Thompson Memorial Scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded among three students who demonstrate leadership and positive character, both in the classroom, community, and throughout their respective lives. This award will forever honor the life and legacy of our leader and friend, Cody Thompson.

Vanessa Otamendi- $1,250

Nicholas Meyer- $1,250

Homecoming

-Carnival: Celebrated 147 years of Beaver pride with fun games, giveaways, and food!

-Concert: Country artist and fellow alumni, Jackson Michelson, performed at our second annual homecoming concert.

Student Philanthropy Week

-March 28th to March 31st: Reached out to members of the OSU community to be mindful of the power of giving back. Events included: Sharing a lollipop moment and writing thank-you cards.

SAA members are invited to volunteer at the President's Circle receptions held once a term hosted by the OSU Foundation.

Student Ambassadors get to not only represent themselves as the face of Oregon State’s students, but also create memorable connections with notable alumni attending the events.
