أين العزم ؟! أين ستقضون الصيف ؟!. البعض يرى أن )السفر( أحد صور التغيري الذي طرأ عىل املجتمع القطري كتوابع

لالزدهار االقتصادي وارتفاع مستوى املعيشة، والبعض اآلخر يرى أنه سلوك استهاليك سلبي. وطرف ثالث يرى فيه تعبريا

عن ثقافة جديدة وانفتاح عىل العامل ومواكبة ملا يحدث من مستجدات، ويف ظل هذه االراء نرى وفوداً من مختلف دول

العامل يقصدون قطر للسياحه ! تُرى هل يرون هنا ما ال نراه ! ؟ هل سينوون العودة ثانية بعد هذه الزيارة ؟! الكثري الكثري

من التساؤالت لعلها كانت النواة االوىل مليالد هذه املجلة .

أكرثُ ما يعرقل نهضة السياحة املحلية ، هو عدم وجود معلومات كافية لدى السائح تربز من خاللها معامل السياحة يف قطر

و الوجهات السياحية فيها. من هنا فقد كان لزاما علينا كرشكة رائدة يف هذا املضامر ان نضع بني يدي السائح الخريطة

التي تكشف له الطريق اىل كنز من كنوز قطر الثمينة من خالل اصدار باكورة هذه املجلة التي تعد بذرة مرشوع سياحي

واعد ، تحوي اكرث االبداعات السياحية من خالل نخبة من االقالم املتخصصة يف هذا املجال لتحفيز الجميع عىل امليض قدما

نحو االرتقاء بالسياحه بصورة اعمق.

من هذا املنطلق وامياناً مّنا بأن آهم دعائم الوطنية الحقيقية تلك التي تُعنى بتقديم كل ما من شأنه الرقي والنهوض

بهذا الوطن املعطاء عن الوالء والوفاء والعزة عىل أرضه يف كافة املجاالت بسواعد أبناءه الوطنية )كٌل يف مجاله( فقد شعرنا

برضورة إبراز أهم املقومات السياحية يف كل مناطق الدولة وإيجاد الوسائل التي من شأنها أن تساعد عىل االستغالل

األمثل لهذه اإلمكانيات واملؤهالت املتوفرة من تجهيزات أساسية وسياحية تكون يف مستوى اإليواء والخدمات السياحية

األخرى ، اضافة اىل التوجه نحو ابراز معامل الدولة السياحية. داخل اعداد هذه املجلة ” رتاج” سنحرص عىل طرح ملف

السياحة الداخلية بني وسائل النهوض والجذب السياحي .

وألجل هذا الغرض فقد جائت مجلة “رتاج” يف عام 2012 يف ثوب مميز من نوعه يف عامل السياحة ، محملًة بالتطلعات

الجمعة األوىل يف جامع اإلمام محمد بن عبد الوهاب. وألقى

ينبت من أرض قطر، سيكون منرباً لإلصالح والدعوة الخالصة

املسجد أطلقنا عىل هذا “إننا الله عز وجل، وقال سموه إىل

اسم الشيخ اإلمام محمد بن عبدالوهاب، ذلك العامل الكبري

واملصلح القدير واملجدد الرائد؛ تكرمياً للعلامء الذين ما زالوا يحملون فكره ودعوته، خدمة لإلسالم

رحمه الله، انترش يف الناس يف أنحاء جزيرة العرب، فأعادهم إىل الطريق القويم وهداهم إىل املنهج

السليم، وقال سموه “لن ندخر جهداً من أجل أن نواصل حمل الرسالة ونرش تعاليم اإلسالم السمحاء

يف كل الدنيا. وإننا نرى أن األمة باتت اليوم بحاجة للتجديد واستلهام عزم وتجربة الدعوة الوهابية

مبا يواكب العرص وتطوراته”.

وقد بدأ االفتتاح بتالوة آيات من الذكر الحكيم.. ثم تم عرض فيلم وثائقي عن الجامع، ثم ألقى سعادة

الحضاري الدور فيها أكد االوقاف والشؤون اإلسالمية كلمة الكواري وزير الدكتور غيث بن مبارك

ملؤسسة املسجد عرب تاريخ املسلمني.

وعقب ذلك قام حرضة صاحب السمو الشيخ حمد بن خليفة آل ثاين أمري البالد املفدى يرافقه ضيوف

الحفل، بإزاحة الستار عن اللوحة التذكارية لجامع اإلمام محمد بن عبدالوهاب إيذانا بافتتاحه.. ثم

أدى سموه بعد ذلك صالة الجمعة ىف الجامع.

العلامء من املستوى رفيع عبدالوهاب حضورا بن محمد االمام جامع أول جمعة ىف وقد شهدت

والدعاة من داخل قطر وخارجها، وحشدا من املواطنني واملقيمني الذين توافدوا ألداء صالة الجمعة

واالطالع عىل هذه التحفة الفنية املعامرية الرائعة.

ويقع الجامع الذي بدأت األعامل اإلنشائية فيه أواخر العام 2006، مبنطقة الجبيالت شامل وسط

مدينة الدوحة قرب نادي قطر، ويتسع ألكرث من 30 ألف مصل عىل مساحة تقدر بأكرث من 175

ألف مرت مربع، إضافة إىل مصىل للنساء يتسع لحوايل 1200 مصلية، بتصميم الجامع مستوحى

من عامرة الجوامع القطرية، محتذيا منط مسجد “القبيب” الذي شيده مؤسس دولة قطر الشيخ

جاسم بن محمد بن ثاين يف ثواب والده.

ويضم الجامع مراكز للقرآن وعلومه ومكتبة علمية، كام سيتم إطالق الكريس العلمي باملسجد،

وتم تزويد املسجد مبنحدرات لذوي االحتياجات الخاصة عدا عن مدرجات للصعود من مستوى

املواقف إىل الباحات الخارجية، و120 مقعدا حجريا وأربع موارد مياه مصممة تصميام تقليديا

مستوحى من تصميم أحد أسبلة املاء القطرية التقليدية.

إذن ما هي توقعاتك ملستقبل قطر يف القطاع االقتصادي؟

أنا بطبيعتي متفائل وبالقياس للعوامل التي ذكرتها لك سابقا،

للمشاريع، وهناك فائض بالنسبة إيجابية فإن هناك توقعات

لتوازن يقود وهذا الفنادق، يف والغرف الفندقية، الشقق يف

بني العرض والطلب، ومع تسهيل حركة الطريان، وافتتاح املطار

الثامن عرش من ديسمرب، حيث توىل املغفور له ان شاءالله الشيخ جاسم بن إنه محمد آل ثاين مقاليد حكم دولة قطر التي كانت كيانا سياسيا يتلمس خطواته

األوىل حينذاك، يف لحظة كانت منطقة الخليج متر بفرتة صعبة قل نظريها يف

تاريخها، حيث بدأت تواجه تحديات ضعف الدولة العثامنية، واألطامع االستعامرية املتزايدة.

الـيـوم الوطنيفي دولة قـطر

,,والرتاث، الوفنون الثقافة وزارة ترعاها سنوية فعالية هي

وزير الكواري العزيز عبد بن الدكتور حمد وافتتحها سعادة

الثقافة والفنون والرتاث يوم 10-ديسمرب 2011 فعاليات درب

الساعي، والتي تقام تحت شعار )نسمو بروح األوفياء(.

وذلك بحضور سعادة السيد سيف الحجري، نائب رئيس مجلس

إدارة مؤسسة قطر للرتبية والعلوم وتنمية املجتمع، باإلضافة

إىل طالب وطالبات املدارس والجهات الحكومية املشاركة.

مروراً الرئييس الباب من الساعي درب قافلة دخول شهدت

بالفعاليات العديدة معلنة عن بدء الفعاليات يف مشهد يذكر

أهل قطر حياة األولني.

فعاليات درب الساعي:يحملون كانوا الذين السعاة حياة الساعي، درب ويجسد

طول ذلك يف متحملني البالد ألرجاء قطر حاكم من الرسائل

الخطوة إن بالدهم فيه الذي خطت اليوم قطر بالنسبة ألهل الوطني ميثل اليوم

األوىل نحو تبوء موقعها الالئق بها بني شعوب املنطقة والعامل، فعرب الشيخ جاسم

بن محمد آل ثاين عرفت قطر تأسيسها عىل يد رجل كان حاكم البالد ومفتيها

وقاضيها، وأحد أبرز شعرائها، والذي بذل الكثري لجمع شمل أهلها وتوحيدهم عىل الكتاب

والسنة.

افتتحت للجمهور 6 يناير حديقة المتحف اإلسالمي روعة الطبيعة وأصالة التراث

يناير السادس من الجمعة يف بعد ظهر الثانية الساعة دقت

التي وعدوا الحديقة أبواب بالجمهور يرتقب فإذا عام 2012

بأن تفتح أبوابها لهم بعد أن افتتحها سمو األمري يف منتصف

الشهر املايض.

عن األشجار ظالل الناس يتفيأ أبوابها، مفتحة غناء حديقة

واستمتاع واستجامم ولعب مرح بني وهم والشامئل، اليمن

عليل، نسيم يصاحبها محرقة، تك ومل مرشقة كانت بشمس

وجامل خرضة تريح األعصاب، وأريج ورود من عبق الطبيعة

يف طرق عبدها النظام، وزادت من جاملها عامرة متحف ضم

كبناء ذاته حد يف وهو اإلسالمي، الرتاث من نادرة مقتنيات

تحفة معامرية عاملية.

هذا املتحف الذي يقع عىل ضفاف الخليج وبالقرب من مطار

الدوحة وفنادقها، بات قبلة للزوار، فمن أراد أن يتعرف التاريخ

بالحارض؛ وقارنه املايض، إىل فرحل بني جنباته، تنقل والرتاث

ليسترشف من بعده مستقبال ميلؤه التفاؤل بالنظر إىل الطبيعة

الغناء التي تحيط بهذا املتحف.

حديقة مل تكن األوىل يف قطر بل سبقتها أخواتها عىل ضفاف

متباعدة. وليست متعددة أماكن ويف املمتدة، شواطئها

يقصدها األطفال ليلعبوا، والكبار ليتنزهوا.

بفرقة الجمعة يوم يف الجمهور املتحف حديقة استقبلت

القدمية الرتاثية والشعبية التي قدمت األغاين الرتاثية السيف

العيون واستمتعت اآلذان، لها فطربت ندية، عذبة بأصوات

يف تخلد صورا لتلتقط الكامريات وفتحت املنظر، بجامل

جميل منها ويرسح الجامل، رحيق فيها وتسكب الذكرى،

الخيال.

حديقة امتدت عىل 68 هكتارا، املنحوتة »7«، التي تعد أوىل

منحوتات الفنان العاملي ريتشارد سريا التي تعرض يف مكان عام

يف الرشق األوسط. وتتألف املنحوتة »7«، وهي أطول منحوتة

عمودية لسريا حتى يومنا هذا، من سبع صفائح فوالذية يبلغ

طول كل واحدة منها 80 قدماً وعرضها 8 أقدام وسامكتها 4

إنشات. ويبلغ عرض قاعدتها 10 أقدام، فيام يبلغ عرض الجزء

بني الفتحات عرب النظر للزوار وميكن أقدام. 9 فيها العلوي

مدينة وأفق اإلسالمي الفن متحف لتأمل الفوالذية الصفائح

الدوحة، وهو ما تأّت لهم عن قرب.

وصممتها هاليل، شكل ذات اإلسالمي الفن متحف وحديقة

رشكة »باي بارترنشيب أركيتكتس« يف نيويورك.. وتضم الحديقة

ساحة »بالزا« طولها 250 قدما وعرضها 75 قدما، وبنيت عىل

الرصيف خصيصا لحمل منحوتة للفنان سريا تحمل اسم »7«.

خاصة منطقة أيضا اإلسالمي الفن متحف حديقة وتضم

صغري وخليج التفاعلية لأللعاب ركن يوجد حيث باألطفال؛

مخصص للنشاطات املائية كركوب القوارب التي يتم تحريكها

الهدايا لبيع وكشكان مقهى أيضاً هناك وسيكون باألقدام.

والتذكارات الخاصة مبتحف الفن اإلسالمي، باإلضافة إىل أشهى

األطعمة واملرشوبات. وميكن للزوار أيضاً االستفادة من خدمة

اإلنرتنت الالسليك يف الحديقة ومن اللوحات الرقمية املنترشة

فيها والتي توفر معلومات عن النشاطات املختلفة التي تجري

ستستضيفها التي العامة النشاطات وتتضمن املدينة. يف

العام عروضاً سينامئية ونشاطات رياضية الحديقة عىل مدار

وعروض الحكوايت وورشاً فنية.

كل للناس يف مفتوحة الله شاء ان الحديقة ستظل إن هذه

أيام األسبوع، وستحجب جاملها عنهم لتهيأ نفسها لهم يف يوم

مبرور الوقت بنى التجار دكاكينهم، وبقيت الطرقات الفرعية

املتعجرة والصغرية، تحمل كل زاوية منها مفاجأة من نوع ما،

بني الثالث و الرابع من ديسمرب 2011 عقد االتحاد العاملي لعلامء املسلمني

االجتامع الثالث ملجلس االمناء يف فندق رتاج رويال مبشاركة اكرث من 30 عامل

ال يكون، وباألحرى الفندق، فقد تدخل فندقا وتقرر أال تعود مطلقا إليه ويف هذه الحالة يصبح

املكان طاردا – من حيث التصميم الداخيل - ، ولذلك فإن عدم دراسة التصميم الداخيل وأخذه

مأخذ الجد وبشكل يجذب العميل فإننا بذلك نخرس جزءا مهام من نجاح أي مشورع فندقي أو

أو األماكن العامة؟في واقع األمر، الفارق يكمن يف مدى تحكم الشخص يف املكان، مبعنى كلام زاد تحكمك يف مكان ما أصبح املكان خاصا بك، فاملنزل يخصك تستطيع التحكم يف ديكوره، وحتى لو اصبح

الديكور طاردا منفرا لك، فهو يف نهاية األمر اختيارك، لكن بصفة عامة ال يحتمل االختيار والذوق

العام أي نوع من املغامرة، هنا عىل املصمم أن يبحث عن وظيفة الجزء الذي يتعامل معه، وذلك

حتى يؤدي املكان وظيفته بشكل فاعل يضمن املردود املادي املطلوب، وبالتايل فعليه البحث

يريحه فيه، وما النزيل البحث عن راحة الفندق مثال، يجب املكان، املتواجدين يف يريح عام

ويجعله يتمسك بالبقاء يف هذا الفندق، ويجب األخذ يف االعتبار عادات النزالء وتقاليدهم، التي

تختلف من بلد آلخر ومن مجتمع آلخر، فاآلسيوي مختلف عن اإلفريقي، وهام مختلفان عن

األمرييك، وكل منهم يقارن بني منزله واملكان الذي ينزل فيه.

ما هي أسس الهوية العربية اإلسالمية يف مجال التصميم؟نسعى يف واقع األمر لخلق هذه الهوية، عرب الزخرفة اإلسالمية، والتصميامت الداخلية،

أن نعمل من خاللها، بحيث نضمن التي والرتبوية القيمية املنظومة وهذا يعكس

يرتبط العميل بهذه الهوية ويتعامل معها، كشكل يعكس منظومة القيم التي نعمل

وفقا لها.

ما هي املشاريع املستقبلية التي تتعاملون معها حاليا؟نحاول إطالق منتجني للتسويق بحيث ينافسان -وبشكل ريادي- أحدهام الكويف زون أو مكان

القهوة، وهو تجربة يف رتاج الرشق، والحقا نسعى لتطويره، وعرب فنادق رتاج وخارجها، هناك

أيضا تجربة الجيم، وهو مكان الستخدام الجاكوزي والساونا والتامرين البدنية، وطبقت يف أحد

فنادق رتاج، لكنه الحقا ميكن تعميمه عىل بقية الفنادق بحيث يتم تسويقهام عىل باقي الفنادق

حتى خارج مجموعتنا.

بالنسبة للتكلفة يف التصميم الداخيل، وموضوع ضخامتها وقلتها كيف تراها؟املصمم الداخيل يشعر بالراحة عندما يجد امليزانية مفتوحة أمامه، ولكن بطبيعة الحال وعىل

أرض الواقع، يقوم املصمم بالعمل وفقا للميزانية املمنوحة له ويجد الحلول املناسبة له، وذلك

عرب أساليب مختلفة.

ما هي تطبيقات هذه الهوية عىل أرض الواقع؟ العامة، اإلسالمية الهوية يعكس نظام هو والعزاب، العائالت بني الفصل املثال، سبيل وعىل

والخيار الذي تتبناه الرشكة، لكن من ناحية ثانية، نحن نرى يف هذا املجال، أن الفصل قد يكون

نظاما غري مريح، بل ومربك لكننا نسعى لتحويله لنظام عرصي وفاعل، وال تؤثر بشكل سلبي

عىل حركة العميل.

ماذا تقول حول قطر والطابع العام للفنادق واملرافق السياحية فيها من حيث

التصميم الداخيل؟هناك قفزة كبرية حققتها قطر يف اآلونة األخرية، وذلك يف مجال السياحة وتطوير التصميم

الداخيل يف املرافق املختلفة، وقد استطاعت فعل ذلك، بدون التخيل عن املنظومة املحلية

من تراث وعادات وتقاليد، واستطاعت توظيفها يف كافة املرافق واألماكن السياحية والعامة،

والواقع أنه لدي مقولة تعلمتها من أحد أفضل أساتذيت الذي يعد من املتميزين عىل مستوى

العامل وهي: إذا أردت العاملية فعليك باإلغراق يف املحلية.

ختاما بالنسبة للمنازل، هل من كلمة لربات البيوت؟بالتغلب يقوم بعمل ذلك أن لديكور داخيل ملنزله يريد عمل تصميم لكل من نصيحتي

عىل إحساس حب االمتالك؛ حتى ال يتحول منزله ملخزن أثاث، بل عليه التفكري بشكل عميل

،،،،Do you have any future projects?We have two projects in the process of more development. The new Coffee Zone, which we opened in Retaj Sharj, we are now trying to add to other hotels of Retaj, and also the Gym where you can use a jacuzzi, sauna and training devices in one of Retaj Hotels and we are planning to open gyms in all of our Retaj hotels and run it also outside of our group.

How do you see the cost of interior design, it is cheap or expensive?The designer feels free when he has open budget, in fact the designer will design according to any specific budget, by finding solutions for the required style.

What about interior design style in Qatar’s hotels and tourist facilities?Qatar has made a quantum leap in the tourism field, by developing the interior design in many facilities. Qatar can be proud of achieving that without forgetting their heritage, traditions and customs, and uses its designs in all tourist facilities and other public places. I learnt from one of my best teachers, who is one of the best designers in the world: “When we want to be an international business, we should have suc-cess locally.”

Finally, is there any advice for housewives?My advice to anyone who would like interior design for their house, they should fight their love of acquisition, as we don’t want our hous-es to turn into furniture stores, but we should think, what is the basic rooms, and what does family need, or individual needs and use the spaces positively.

What are the bases of Arabic and Islamic identity in designing? We are trying to create an identity, through Islamic ornamentation and other designs to reflect our values according to it, so we want to be sure that this identity affected our customers for our and their best.

How can we see that this hotel is applying Islamic Identity?For example, in Qatar it is forbidden for single men to live in a families neighborhood, this being under a law that reflects the Islamic public identity. Dividing bachelor and family areas may create an unsuitable situation, but we are trying to make it as a modern system, which won’t reflect upon our customers in the hotels.

What is the Retaj identity?We are trying to achieve this objective by working on several hotels such as Retaj Shraj. We are also trying to develop our Islamic and Qatari identity without forgetting the continual development of the global system, and we have to deal with it but according to our vision and identity.

I love this place, I feel it›s my home, I also feel a relation between myself and Retaj … I feel comfortable as

people are attracted to places where they feel psychological comfort, even if there are better places more luxurious more expensive. It is a secret many people don›t realise the relationship between themselves and different places, and because of that interior design found solu-tions to make people feel at home and comfortable, not only in hotels but crossing over into homes, offices or any sectors and public areas.»

In this interview you will accompany us to discover part of this world with engineer Ayman Sa›ad, interior designer for Retaj company›s pro-jects.

Retaj Hotels are trying to make an International identity for themselves, with an Islamic and Arabic background.I learned from my experience, that we will be able to be an interna-tional business, if we are successful locally, and that is what Retaj in Qatar is doing.

Is interior design important for hotels?Interior design is an important element to give the right feelings of place function. Houses should make you feel warm and comfortable and hotels should also affect you with this feeling. Sometimes you en-ter a hotel and you promise to not come back again, because its design wasn’t attractive. especially when the owner doesn’t take interior de-sign seriously to attract their customer, they will lose an important part of any Hotel project or any other investment project.

What are the differences between interior design for houses or private places, hotels, offices and public places?Actually, the difference is how you are controlling your own place, that’s mean as long as you controlling it, you will have your private place. In your house you can control the décor, even if you don’t feel comfortable with it, but at last it is your choice. Publicly you cannot take this risk, the design should be suitable for its function and to guarantee that others will feel the same comfort factor. For achieving good financial returns, a hotel is a good example as we should search for costumers’ comfort, to ensure their return. Because of the differences between people and their tradition and customs, surely they will compare it with home.

Cook the rice with the saffron

Turn the veal meat with a little of the olive oil according to your desire

Brown the minced meat mix and drain excess fat

Put the remaining olive oil in a pot then add the onion and garlic and soften

Add the minced tomatoes, butter and minced meat mix together with the veal, carrots, rosemary

cheese and cream and cook through, adding salt and pepper to taste

Lay the saffron rice on a plate then add the meat sauce

Top it off with the parmesan

Who is Chef Mohammed Atteyah?I have been working in cooking since 1988. I have worked in high class hotels such as the Sheraton Heliopolis, Hotel Fairmont, Hyatt Re-gency, Swiss Hotel, El Shams Hotels & Tourism. I worked in the Concord Hotel for 7 years before moving to Jeddah, K.S.A. Since 2004 I have been working in Doha with the Retaj Group of Hotels. I won the silver medal in the Saloon competi-tion at the Nile Hotel, Egypt, in 2004 and the bronze medal for cooking live in the Doha Exhi-bition Centre from the egyptian Chefs’ Associa-tion in the same year. More recently I took the gold medal in the 2007 Intercontinental Cairo.

You have worked in many tourist capitals; do you

feel Doha is different?Doha is rich with events and

activities and many visitors are arriving every day. This inspires

the chefs with the desire to learn, discover new tastes, and then test

and benefit from their skills. I consid-er Doha a big challenge for a chef.

What did you add to the Retaj menu as a chef?

I guess you could say I brought variety. I have introduced different kinds of buffet such as the International, Seafood, Friday dinner and Ital-ian Thursday night buffets and we are planning a new Italian. I think we are better in this area than many of our competitors and because of the variety we are seeing visitor numbers start

to increase.

What is Retaj Ar-Rayyan’s main dish?The salmon and osso buco which is an Italian dish containing roasted veal, seasoned paprika, celery, onion, carrot, Italian tomato sauce, Rose-mary cheese, thyme and parmesan.But I think the most important dish is lobster (Um Ar-Rubian), because it is a popular dish in the Gulf area. We serve it the Italian way; cook-ing it with fettuccine pasta, white sauce, mus-tard and garlic.

What about soup? Is it a main dish and fa-vourite for many?Certainly it’s a favourite and we offer many to choose from; Moroccan Harira, Consommé Roy-ale perhaps being the most popular right now.

everyone has basic rules at work; what are yours?First off is hygiene; this is crucial when han-dling food and working in a kitchen. Second is temperature control; both in the fridge/freez-ers and with the chefs! Third is saving food, we really make an effort not to waste food, both on the plate, by serving up delicious dishes, and in the kitchen, by ordering the right quantities at the right time. lastly, but not least, observing the general rules of public health.

As we all know, european cuisine often uses ingredients incompatible with the Islamic faith, and yet you use european dishes on your men-us. What’s the secret? Actually this is Retaj secret and my secret too. As a chef I have taken the traditional european cuisine and replaced those ingredients with suitable alternatives, thereby making them comply with Islamic and Qatari culture.

How can you deal with guests who have spe-cial requirements, those that are taken sick for example?In general peoples’ diet requirements are dif-ferent; some are vegetarians for example, and we have special menu and buffet items that meet these varying needs. If a guest is sick, they need only tell us directly and we will make them something to suit their needs.

What do you offer the children?We have created a special food menu just for the children; one that offers both healthy choic-es, and flavours attractive to kids.

Where is the best place for investment? Is the expansion expected in the hotel or apart-ments side of the business?of course it is apartments. They are the new kind of hotels and the best choice for families and people who prefer the comforts of home with the privileges of a hotel stay but are on short-term contracts that the usual housing market – with its long rental terms – can’t ac-commodate.

What are Retaj’s preparations for the forth-coming football World Cup in 2022?This important event is of great concern to us and is a great opportunity and privilege to be involved with. We are putting together a plan that will make Retaj hotels ready for the event and what goes with it and one that will ensure we are ready to serve all the many visitors to Qatar in the best way, meeting their needs and successfully at that.

What is the relation between the tourist and hotel industry? And what is the Qatar Tourism Authority?The hotels’ business is growing in Qatar, es-pecially in anticipation of the 2022 football World Cup. At Retaj Group we are co-oper-ating with the Qatar Tourism Authority for tourist promotions, and the Authority is sup-porting us with its services and experience. our relationship with them is giving us the opportunity to attend global conferences that enable us to develop our business.

From your experience, what advice would you give to new investors in the industry?Any new investor should carefully study his intended investment. He should evaluate his own situation before starting any project, and should take his time in the planning. It is important to be well prepared and have a comprehensive knowledge of the market, its customers, opportunities and pitfalls and to be resourceful. Then I would say to start the business gradually, learn the lessons which will be plenty and come quickly, and build upon solid foundations.

Souq Waqif the historical heart of DohaA trading area in Doha started along the beachfront. Founded as the harbor for fishermen and pearl divers, it was

known as Al-Beda›, as Qatar started to be an independent country in the Arabian Gulf. This trading has helped Doha grow, with the sup-port of Sheikh Jasim bin Muhammad Al-Thani, the founder of the modern state of Qatar.

A part of Doha›s identity as a modern city is her Souq, the merchants were standing there to sell and buy daily needs, by providing dif-ferent kind of goods. The smell of wet ground from the rain, in the course of the floods in Mishairib Valley, was mixed with the spices, perfumes, timber, plaster, smell of local food and the buyers of cloth and clothes.

Time after time merchants built their shops without any specific order, which in turn has made the souq’s inside roads zigzag and nar-row, every angle carrying a surprise. After an Attar shop (Local medicine) you will find a tai-lor, after that you will enter a road filled with the smell of cooking and breads, followed by a sub road with building tools.

This situation stays as it is, but it started gradually to lose its own identity because of the development of architecture style in Qa-tar, which was gypsum - the basic material for walls, woods and palm fronds for ceilings and arc for passing ways. Doors were kept in a wood style with old

wood colour. But H.Hm Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani decided to rebuild the Souq according to the old style, keeping the balance between the modern life and its majestic past.

We will take a tour by time machine, you will feel at home and never feel like a stranger. It is the same zigzag roads, you have plenty choic-es in Sandoq embayyet but chose carefully as we don’t want to miss anything.

Sandoq Embayyet is an old box has a special place in every Qatari household. This box has made by the mother of a bride, to keep her pri-vate and important things, and after a while, it will be a box of memories and secrets, so Souq Waqif is Doha’s memories box.

If you like antiques, please let’s walk forward a little bit where we will see shops selling wooden boxes (Sandoq Embayyet), Mabkhar (incense vase, to pot incense or perfumes to be burned), Marashat (sin-gle: Marash; it’s shaped like a bottle, with several holes on top to put perfumes to spray it in the

room) and Rosaries with different colours and materials starting with simple plastic stones, and Al-yusur (Black Coral), valuable wood and at last and not least the high quality Kahraman (Amber), to check Amber quality you will see people are rubbing it with their hands to smell its perfume.

In Souq Waqif, there are many shops for lo-cal fashion, you are given several choices of Shimagh (square piece of cloth that is folded into a trianglular shape), Iqal (one circle fold to be two circles and placed on the Shimagh or Gutrah to set it) and White Thobe (Qatari male traditional dress, it looks like long shirt) and as we are in winter, ask the seller for a tradition-ally made dark colour Thobe.

We feel hungry, but we need to continue our tour, so let›s stop to eat Rigag (thin Arabian bread); we can eat it alone or with egg, cheese or honey. At the same beach, we can hear the merchants voices from different nationalities, we can hear many accents from them all, including the Najd accent, those from the desert, farmers and travelers from other banks of the Gulf and India. let›s have a walk around to enjoy these sounds.

Situated within 68 hectares, the park includes a sculpture plaza featuring a newly commis-sioned work by Richard Serra titled 7, the artist’s first public work in the Middle East. Composed of seven steel plates that are 80 feet high, 8 feet wide and 4 inches thick, 7 is Serra’s tallest vertical sculpture to date. The sculpture is 10 feet wide at the bottom and nine feet wide at the top. visitors can see Doha and the Museum through it which it makes the best view.

Designed by Pei Partnership Architects (New york), the crescent-shaped MIA Park curves from the MIA into Doha Bay, Jetting out into Doha Bay is a pier specially created to support Serra’s 7. The nearly 200-foot-long, 79-foot-wide it is plaza park.

In the park there is a kids play’s area, and a small gulf for water games such as peddle boats. Also there will be a coffee shop and two booths for gifts and souvenirs from the Museum of Islamic Art, and free wifi internet service, besides digital information screens to display Doha activities and events. The park will host film festivals, sport activities, work-shops and Hakawati (story tellers).This park will be open daily except Tuesdays to clean and repair and to open again with its green fields and amazing flowers.

At 12pm on Friday 6th January 2012, visitors were welcomed to the park which was official-ly opened by H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani in the middle of last month.

Rich garden with trees cast shadows where visitors can sit and enjoy the sun and the nice weather of Doha these days or play and have fun in this amazing nature. The nice breeze, along with green yards to forget work pres-sure, the view of flowers organized on the side of the roads drawing a natural paint and making new masterpiece itself as one of mu-seum masterpieces.

Museum of Islamic Arts is located on Gulf near Doha airport and hotels of Doha. Anyone wanting to know about Qatar’s and Islamic history and compare it with Doha’s present, get the perfect vision of a future full of op-timism, by watching these gorgeous gardens.It is not the first park in Qatar; there are many parks near to it, families are taking their chil-dren to play, and adults are going to walk.

The park received Al-Saif Band for local songs - they sang old and local songs, and the au-dience enjoyed their nice voices, the natural view and thinking of the old days.

the rule of Qatar. After this great date, Qatar started its first steps towards building a modern state within the Gulf area, an area which was facing very sensitive challenges, started with the falling of the ottoman empire and area divisions by the victorious countries.

An-Nasaa’ event This shooting event shows a good attempt to revive this hobby for Qatari teens and to teach them their heritage. everyday there is qualify-ing between the participants, until the last day when they will be crowned champion (female and male).

Maidan As-Slooqi This event was established in Al-Qanas (Snip-er) village. Through it children can learn how to treat As-Slooqi dogs. These kind of dogs are known for their loyalty, abilities and clever-ness, all of which encourage children to know their heritage. Simple gifts were given to the children as reward for visiting.

The old market in the middle of Doha held a celebration which was held by the Ministry of Social Affairs and supporting Productive fami-lies who displayed their products such as kohl, perfumes, kids toys, henna and many other productions

This is a yearly event, sponsored by the Minis-try of Culture, Arts and Heritage. This year H.E. Dr. Hamad bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Kuwari, Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage opened the event on December 10th, 2011. Also Mr. Saif Al-Ha-jari, vice Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for education, Science and Community Develop-ment attended the event along with students from different schools. Government sectors have also attended Darb As-Sa’ie.

The event and inside activities Darb As-Sa’ie reflects the life of messengers, who were taking and delivering the letters of Qatar’s governor, and forwarding them all over the country. At that time, it was difficult with the long distances, to keep the communica-tion with other Qatari cities open at that time.

Al-Muqatar event This event focusses on the heritage of hunting falcons, through organising hunting competi-tions, and it also gives the chance for children to see the falcons and to learn how to treat them.

Mohammed Abdul Latief Al-Manaa› is a very famous name, not only because of the positions he filled but also because of his skills and experience, along with his vision in the economic field. We were very happy to meet such a well behaved and polite man. Retaj made an interview with Mr. Mohammed Abdul Latief Al-Manaa›, Chief Executive of Iqar company for real estates developing, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Al-Jazeera Finance, vice Chairman of the Board for QIB and Member of the Board of Directors for Retaj company for marketing and project management.

How can tourism influence hotels?It is a mutual influence, if there are active movements in a country, hotel numbers will increase in different stars, that lead to in-creasing tourist numbers. They will be sure of finding rest places at least. In Qatar there is a new hotel every six months, that is a great rate and shows us that the tourism in Qatar is growing faster.

What are Qatar’s advantages?Political, economical and security stability, also the wise plans and policies of the govern-ment, along with economical growth.

Is investment world dangerous? Do you have any advice to investors?(Behave modestly) It is not advice, (Smiling) in this situation; I think they think of diversifica-tion so they will not risk their money in one business.

What about the future and the 2022 Qatar and football world cup?This topic is huge to describe it, it is a big chance full of promises, it is not only one month’s work, it should accompany with events and celebrations before and after the event, it is a whole organizing system to ben-efit from it and to be ready for it also.

Does Qatar have elements of tourism or the tourism of conferences is the main base only?Qatar has a large experience in conferences and also leading skills in many events, also Qatar has tourism beaches, archaeological sites and many new projects in tourism busi-ness with amazing warm weather the projects will take their place on tourism’s map, espe-cially the transit to Doha which is helping the tourism field and traveling.

Salvation from the international crisis can be through diversification in different fields, which means taking a risk in diversification to avoid a big loss, so that investments will not be in only one field but in different fields, countries and regions.Expectation on USA and on Europe, and on the other hand expectations lay on the big growth of Asian dragon to support International eco-nomic during the crisis.We should focus on the ability of economics, to benefit from crises to discover solutions and learn lessons, as example we can create new was to manage money.

The international crisis has drawn attention to Islamic economical solutions, as a result of failing the international financial system. What are your thoughts?With all respect to you, but failing is a big word, the international system hasn’t failed but it faces serious and big problems. The Is-lamic economic system gave solutions to stop speculative currency and derivatives issues, but when they focus on real estate business fields, they start to solve these issues seri-ously. Islamic Exchange as new business field is growing gradually.

We would like to ask you about the reality of Qatar’s situation as investment land in different fields, what is the main reason of that?

Actually, it is through the direction of Amir H.H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Tha-ni and his Crown Prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and the efforts of H.E Sheikh Hamad bin Jasim Al-Thani the Prime Minister, which has lead to economi-cal growth and worked as a magnet to attract the huge projects and investments

in various fields, which created an active business and investment market. I would like to add that the settlement in secure and market was the most

important reason.

How do you see the future of economic field in Qatar?I’m an optimistic person, and according to the reasons I have mentioned before, there are positive outlooks for projects in Qatar, there are surplus apartments and hotel rooms that’s led to a balance between supply and demand. Also the opening of new airport and the easiness of flying, that all

giving investors the incentive to invest in real estate busi-ness. We can say the businessmen are requiring offices in commercial areas that also will create new business field in real estate in future, to active the Qatari mar-ket more creating fair competition between busi-nessmen and to attract companies to rent a suitable place in Qatar.

If we go back a little bit to the international financial cri-sis, what is your evaluation of the Qatari economy? And

how can we protect our economy from it in future?We should be honest; no country in the world is protected

from the international financial crises. Actually everyone has lost from this crisis; I think that Qatar was one of the few countries who

survived from it, the main reason is the directions of our government and their solutions protecting the Qatari economy, and these solu-tions became an opportunity to investors to come and make pro-jects to support the Qatari economy.

MoSQue Can Hold 30 tHouSand people‹

H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani requested the building of the Grand mosque and in 2006 work was started in the Jubailat area of Doha, near to Qatar Sport club. The finished mosque can now hold 30 thousand people in its175 thousand square meter area. The ladies prayer hall can hold around 1200. The architecture style was inspired by other Qatari mosques. The model of the mosque is similar to «Al-Qubaib» mosque, which was built by Sheikh Jasim bin Muhammad (may Allah accept his good deeds) as a Waqf to his dead father.

The mosque contains a Qur›an Centre for research, a big library and also a scholar chair. This chair is for giving lectures to Islamic studies students by skilled Scholars. Mosque builders haven›t forgotten the special needs people, as they added a special way for them to enter the mosque from downstairs parking. There are also 120 seats for old and disabled people. Water sources for wudhu (ablution) have been built using the inspiration of an old Qatari style.

The opening of the Mosque began with recitation of the Qur’an fol-lowed by a documentary movie which explained about the history of the Mosque. H.E Dr. Ghaith bin Mubarak Al-Kuwari, Minster of Islamic Af-fairs and Endowments, then gave a speech to explain the civil role of the Mosque, during its history of building the great Islamic state and civilization.

The Emir, H.H Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani unveiled the plaque of the mosque, followed by the Friday prayer. The mosque was full with Qa-tari Scholars and a big delegation of scholars from outside Qatar. Qatari nationals and residents were also present at the mosques first Friday prayer and to see this architectural masterpiece in the middle of Doha.

H.H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani Prince of Qatar opened the newly named Muham-mad bin Abdul-Wahab Mosque, on December 10th, 2011. H.E. Present at the opening were such dignitaries as Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, H.E Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani; Special Adviser of H.H Prince of Qatar, H.E Hamad bin Jasim Jabur Al-Thani; Prime minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E Muhammad bin Mubarak Al-Klaifi; Chairman of the Shura Council and many high ranking Sheikhs, Ministers and Ambassadors of Qatar.

Having the name of Renewed Imam Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul-Wahab, shows many meanings behind the present Qatari role of presenting Islam. Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Hasan Al-Muraikhi gave the first Friday Sermon in the Mosque along with the Emir, H.H Hamad Al-Thani, who gave a speech explaining his idea behind the building which aims to be the base and the starting point for Dawah and re-form. He said, “We have named the Mosque, Imam Muhammad Abdul-Wahab, because of the role this great Imam had with building an Islamic Nation and renewing the working with the Sunnah, and to reward all scholars who are following his steps and holding his thoughts

to serve Islam and Muslims. The location of the Peninsula of Qatar in the southern west Arabian gulf

has given Qatar the importance of being stra-tegically placed for trade and it was a resting place for ships on their way to India from Ku-wait or Basrah.

Az-Zubarah Fort:It is the most important place in Qatar, men-tioned in old Greek maps under the name of Katara. Zubarah kept its commercial growth as a centre point for ships to the Arabian Gulf until it was destroyed in 1878, when Doha – a more secure and open place, became the focal point for commerce.

Al-Kout FortIn the middle of Doha, near Souq Waqif park-ing, this Fort was used as a police station and jail. Now closed, it still reflects the architec-tual style in Doha.

Al-WakrahIn the face of an increasing population, Wak-rah is still a very nice and quiet city, located south of Doha, and far from Doha airport (12 km), it is a very nice place for having a joyful time on its sandy beaches which are consid-ered amongst the best places for relaxing.

Al-KhourAl-Khour was an old fishing port, located 40km north of Doha. Developing gradually, it became a commercial city and residential place for employees who are working in the gas and oil fields. Al-Khour also has its own corniche, where you can relax spend good time with its white pure sand.

Jean Francois Bodin, French architect designed the building which contains a coffee shop, library, gallery shop containing 6000 art pieces of over 100 artists and also provides videos, and of course the museum itself.

2. Doctors advise vaccinations for different diseases, also to

have medicine against malaria and travel diarrhea. Do not for-get your medicine and take notice of time changes between countries and sleeping hours.

3. Pregnant women should ask their doctor to be sure of their traveling ability.

4. For patients who have chronic disease like diabetes, high

blood pressure and heart diseases, should ask their doctors for medical tips, remembering to take enough medicine to cover their entire journey as they may not be able to find their medicine in some tourism areas.

5. Ask for medical advice from a doctor.

6. If you notice medicinal side effects, it is possible to change your medicine type with another, always following the direc-tion of your physician.

7. Many diseases transmitted by insects can be prevented by vaccination or medicines.

8. Prepare a “First aid box” - put in it your medicine, first aid

and allergy cream, sterilizers and plasters. You can also ask your physician to prescribe some medications.

When the hot wind of summer blows, it brings with it the fever of traveling in the Qatari society. The time that people start wondering where you will spend the summer, what is your plan? Some say that traveling is one of a lot of changes happening in Qatari soci-ety, as it is affecting the growth of economy and the high standard of living. Some say that it produces a negative spending behaviour, whilst others say that travel is a new culture and part of opening Qatar to the world. We can see that many tourists are coming to Qatar from all over the world; do they see what we see in Qatar? Will they come again? And many more questions, these questions became the inspiration behind Retaj Magazine. If there isn›t enough information for the common tourist to know the places to visit and things to do in Qatar, that in itself will block the way to the rise of local tourism. As a pioneer company in the tourism business, we thought it is our job to give the tourists the best map to show them the way of Qatari tourist treasures, by publishing the first issue of this tourism project which contains the elite of specialized writers in this field, to motivate others to develop Qatari tour-ism for the better.

The best way of proving our love to Qatar, is to support its development and try to raise the project which will contribute in economic growth, because the country will develop only by the hands of Qatar›s sons. In Retaj we feel our duty to present tourism is in our beloved homeland, to show its tourism potential and give the best solution and suggestions, to develop and profit from these places and prepare them with basic tourist services. We also plan to focus on Qatari tourist places to be known globally. In Retaj, we will raise the issue of internal tourism and the ways of increasing it.
