SEBOKENG. - Police are looking for threesuspects in connection with different crimescommitted in the area. Police spokespersonWarrant Officer Mzimkhulu Mthimkulu saysthe owner of a house arrived from withdraw-ing money on November 26 last year.The owner and company were not aware

that they had been followed. When they ar-rived home, they were approached by twomale suspects armed with guns. The victimswere forced to open the door of the house.Victims were pushed inside and warned notto make noise.After an undisclosed sum of money was

seized, the suspects made away on foot, saidMthimkulu.In another case, two suspects entered a

the section, they were forced to vacatethe burning building with nothing butthe little clothing they had on theirbacks, leaving all of their possessionsto be swallowed up by a fire.“We have lost everything, including

our Identity Documents. Some of us arejob seekers and we will not be able tofind employment without documenta-tion. Residents were complaining aboutthe dangers especially faced by theyoung kids who live in Old Hospital,stating that although there were no fa-talities, something could have gonewrong.” Democratic Alliance (DA)ward 15 Councillor Stanley Mashabelasays all the departments with the cre-dentials to help with the situation ar-rived at Old Hospital: “I am going toinform the residents who were affectedto calm down as the situation is current-ly under control.” Mashabela statedthat the residents would be helped bythe relevant departments. VEREENIGING. - Vereeniging Policehave arrested a 23-year-old coloured malefor possesion of stolen property in the formof a vehicle and cigarretes with an estimat-ed value of R860 000.He was nabbed also for possession of an

unlicenced firearm. According to Vereeni-ging Police spokesperson Captain FikileFunda, the culprit was arrested by theCommunity Policing Forum (CPF) inRoshnee: “Officers on patrol saw a groupof CPF members standing in the group andwhen they approached them they were toldthey had arrested a suspect who was alleg-edly in possession of stolen property.”Reports Funda: “The suspect is current-

ly in custody. During our investigations, itwas discovered that the panel van found

in the culprit’s possession is connected to acase of vehicle theft in Randfontein and thatthe cigarettes may be connected to a case ofhijacking where similar goods such as ciga-rettes were recently seized during a hijackingin De Deur.”Funda added that it was unlikely the culprit

SHARPEVILLE. - The Department of SocialDevelopmentwill spendmore thanR7millionafter the completion of the Early ChildhoodDevelopment (EDC) project through a socialgrant.The structure was left to perish incomplete

in about 2012. It received another boost ofR3,6 million though provincial initiatives.The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM)

is the custodian of the property as they ownthe land. The Emfuleni Health and SocialDevelomentMMCCouncillor Sello Pitso saidthey have recruited Makgothamisha BuildingConstruction at R3,6 million for the secondphase. He said the contractor had alreadystarted erecting awall. Letlapa has been termi-nated for non performance, said MMC Pitso.However, this did not bode well for the

Community Development Initiative (CDI).The project stopped pending further explana-tion by the local government on May 7.CDI spokespersonRakgadi Seetsi said until

VEREENIGING. - A loanshark exchanged wordswith this journalist on Wednesday during his arrest.The arrest was because the loanshark was operatingwithout a licence, which led Police to apprehend himand hold him.Police received a complaint about activities at The

Hangar ABSAATM inVoortrekker Street earlier thatvery same day. Police responded to the complainant’scall and on arrival found a 45-year-old male in pos-session of 86 SASAA cards (South African SocialSecurityAgency), R45 000 in bank notes and 46 iden-tity books.He further confessed to Police that he was an unre-

gistered loanshark. He was then arrested for possessi-on of suspected stolen property, fraud and moneylaundering. Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Fun-da says the suspect will appear in the VereenigingMagistrates Court.“We found 86 SASSA cards, and 46 IdentityDocu-

ments (ID). We are very concerned about membersof the community having their private particulars inanother man’s possession. It is very dangerous fora person’s bank card to be in someone else’s possessi-on,” says Funda.He adds that Police would investigate the matter

hannes Mokhutho and his committee recentlyand took place among representatives of theSedibeng District Department of Education.The project forms part of the ArcelorMittalFoundation’s global Solidarity Holidays Pro-gramme where employees from around theworld have an opportunity to spend part oftheir annual leave volunteering for a Foundati-on project in a foreign country. Ten internatio-nal and 20 local ArcelorMittal employees ca-

me together with local contracting companiesand built and upgraded the school with muchneeded facilities for the pupils.“We work closely with the Department of

Education to identify schools close to our ope-rations that have pressing needs.”These were words of Prudence Masike of

ArcelorMittal. It was attested by local council-lor Mabuthi Bikisha that Seeiso PrimarySchool is servicing a growing population.There is a requirement to increase the uptakeof learners into the school, which is puttingpressure on the existing facilities|: “We areplead that ArcelorMittal look round the areain order to keep balance and help here.”Raj Mandamparambil, Group Head of the

South Africa in this project was around R400000, which includes the costs for refurbish-ment as well as the expense of hosting the in-ternational visitors, said Masike. The newlyrefurbished classrooms have been equippedwith all the amenities needed to create a happyand conducive learning environment for the160 Foundation phase learners. It was repor-ted by the principal that educators at the schoolhave said the newly renovated classroomswillimprove the quality of education and the lear-ning experience of learners. “We express oursincere gratitude to the dedicated local and in-ternational ArcelorMittal team members andthe local community for agreeing to contributetowards refurbishment toward state-of-the-artclassrooms and for building the jungle gym,”said Mokhothu. “Poor education and lack ofadequate infrastructure in disadvantaged com-munities is one of our country’s greatest chal-lenges. This project demonstrates that with acollaborative effort from private sector com-panies like ArcelorMittal and government, wecan together play a vital role in curbing thesechallenges,” he said. The ArcelorMittal Soli-darity Holiday Programme was initiated in2010 and this year marks the fifth anniversaryof the initiative. Through Solidarity Holidays,employees are given the opportunity to engagewith people from different cultures, to interactclosely with colleagues from other locationsand make a direct contribution to the compa-ny’s social development initiative.

TOUCHLINE has faith in the newly electedEmfuleni Local Football Association to takeour football forward. However, TOUCHLI-NE’s main concern persists - the structure ofthe Emfuleni Local Football Association’sSuper and Junior League. This doesn’t makesense to TOUCHLINE, to say the least.

For example, the Super League Tourna-ment played in a round robin format whilethe u/13, u/15 and u/17 were a knockout stage.It is a big mistake for the u/13 tournamentto start with a knockout while Super Leaguestarts as a round robin. This is not how thingsshould be done, especially when we talkabout development.

To make matters worse, Emfuleni LocalFootball Association chairman Mondli Nkosisays it is only in Boitshepiville that the junior

tournament plays in a knockout stage, whileother areas or streams play in a round robinsystem. According to Nkosi, Boitshepivilleteams agreed to play knockout stage duringa meeting held at George Thabe Stadium priorto the tournament.

If this is the case, those teams’ representati-ve are out of line to suggest that the juniorsoccer tournament be played in the knockoutstage. These youngsters must enjoy themsel-ves as much as happened with the Super Lea-gue teams. The junior soccer teams must beour top priority in this region and if the coa-ches decided the juniors play knockout stage,then they are not part of development.

The truth is that this is not a Sunday leaguebut the development of football where theseyoungsters should be shaped at a young age.

For starters, development is not about win-ning but about laying a solid foundation forthe future. TOUCHLINE also wishes to advi-se the newly elected Emfuleni Local FootballAssociation to improve communication withtheir partners such as Emfuleni Local Munici-pality in terms of facilities.

The Emfuleni junior league tournamenthad to play at James Ground because the Ge-orge Thabe Stadium was not booked or be-cause the municipality was not aware of suchgames. Look, as much as those facilities be-long to community, the right channels mustbe followed.

It was very disappointing for these young-sters to be told they would play on hard-sur-face soccer grounds while there are much bet-ter facilities in their areas. Lack of communi-

cation is the only downfall of our football inthis region.

It is wrong for the development teams toinsult stadiums’ carekakers and demand theyopen the stadium when the right process wasnot followed. It is ‘comrade mentality’ toclaim the stadium belongs to the community.It is not supposed to work like that because- as things stand now – we don’t have properfacilities in townships due to the same menta-lity of entitlement, Grow up somebody –things have changed for the better of football.It is our responsibility that everyone takes ca-re of those facilities - precisely because theybelong to the community. We don’t need`comrades’ in football. We need coaches andadministrators. Let’s do this again next week.From TOUCHLINE …!!!

SEDIBENG. - The Aaron Mokoena Yo-uth Tournament has reached a climaxwith four teams to battle it out in thesemi-finals and final at Boipatong Sta-dium at on April 18.

The tournament is organised by theAaron Mokoena Foundation in partner-ship with Sedibeng Municipality, Emfu-leni Local Municipality and EmfuleniLocal Football Association. The formerBafana Bafana captain Aaron ‘Mbazo’Mokoena is the inspiration behind thisinitiative to bring professional footballback to this region.

Since the tournament started it has at-tracted a lot of interest from PSL scoutswith Platinum Stars chairman and Sedi-beng-based Senzo Mazingisa gracingthe tournament.

Mpumalanga Black Aces star playersTshidiso Tukane and Abia Nale wereamong the local soccer professionalswho came and supported the initiative.The two were overwhelmed by the ta-lent on display that day.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mo-koena says he has a surprise package forthese youngsters on the day of the final.Sedibeng Ster Sport has learned that somelocal players who will attend the final in-clude dazzling Orlando Pirates midfielderThabo Rakhale, Thabo Monyamane ofUniversity of Pretoria, to mention but two.

Mokoena says this is going to be a me-morable final and is scheduled to take pla-ce where he was born – Boipatong - onApril 18. A veritable hive of activity willtake the the form of musical performancesand ball jugglers: “We want to give theseyoungsters ‘red carpet’ treatment on theday they rub shoulders with their heroes.

EVATON. – Evaton Youth Aca-demy (EYA) FC dominated thePooe Easter Tournament whenthey were crowned champion inboth the u/15 and u/17 division.

This annual tournament tookplace on the legendary BehermanRovers FC soccer grounds inEvaton on Easter Monday. In theu/15 final, EYA was crownedchampions after beating Happi-ness Development FC 3 - 0 onpenalties. The u/17 final was alsodecided on penalties with EYAFC beating Future Stars FC 5 - 3in an exciting encounter. Spea-

king to Sedibeng Ster Sport, EYAFC head coach William Gumulasays he is proud of his boys: “Theseboys really deserved to win thistournament because we have beenworking hard for the past threemonths. soccer.The main aim of the tournament is to give young

people a platform fromwhich to showcase their talentand help ease some of the social issues faced by theyouth sector. good old days when netball and soccer provided ‘kil-ler entertainment’.What made things evenmore inte-resting was that most past soccer professional playerswere discovered playing school football.There were powerhouse schools such as Botebo-

community would flock to the neighbouring soccergrounds to watch the above-mentioned schools:“Wewant to bring school sports back towhere they

belong like it used to be the past. The local soccerfields used to be packed to capacity with the commu-nity coming to watch netball or soccer. This is nolonger the case and we appeal to school principalsto support the initiative.“The only time our school sports get attention is

during the athletics season and this is wrong.“Football and netball must be given the respect

they deserve, especially at the so-called Model Cschools,”
