DEPARTMENT OF
Electrical and Electronic Engineering
The key terms in the field of Electrical and Electronic
Engineering are clean energy, electronic control,
high-speed broadband communications, robotics,
semiconductors, new electronic materials and
devices, optoelectronics, acoustics, imaging, and
medical electronics, which explain the state-of-the-
art in this field. With these words in mind, we help
students become researchers and engineers with
creative intelligence and well-rounded characteris-
tics. Our society now requires engineers to have a
global sense with a broad perspective, satisfactory
academic skills, problem-solving abilities and crea-
tive skills to handle the unpredictable development
of events. We provide professional education and
research under the guidance of academic staff.
After one and a-half years study on basic subjects in
electrical and electronic engineering such as
electromagnetism, electric circuit theory, and
electronic circuit theory together with advanced
mathematics and applied physics, students will
choose one of the study courses to acquire
technological knowledge for their fruitful future.
Besides the classes in their own course, students
may take additional classes according to their
interest from almost all the classes offered by this
department.
Courses:
Information and Communication Course Electronic devices and Optics Course Energy and Control Course
DEPARTMENT OF
Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineering is the fundamental engineering to design, develop, and apply a mechanical instrument to support a healthy and safe daily life for human beings. It is a traditional engineering discipline, but it is always updated to cope with the new era. Mechanical engineers who open up new research fields have the steady ability to develop new mechanical systems are turned out into the world from this department. The teaching and learning processes are performed in cooperation with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, JAXA since 2005. Courses: Mechanical and Space Systems Engineering Mechanical and Intelligent Systems
Engineering
This department brings up the engineer who has the attitude to contribute to the society with impressive basic ability as the mechanical engineer. Until now, the education aims to teach 1. Adaptive thinking 2. Engineering ethics 3. Communication ability 4. Knowledge on mathematics and natural
sciences 5. Knowledge on mechanical engineering and
applied skills 6. Design ability
Students are expected to study eagerly toward these goals. Teachers always improve the quality of education to provide human resources with great talent achieving the aims to the society. The Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education, JABEE, authorizes our educational program addressed in such a way.

DEPARTMENT OF
Materials Science and Chemical Engineering
Materials engineers manipulate the atomic and mole-
cular structure of substances to create products
ranging from computer chips and cellular phones to
golf clubs and surfboards. They work with metals,
ceramics, plastics, semiconductors, and combinations
of materials called composites to create new materials
that meet mechanical, electrical, and chemical require-
ments. Materials science and engineering is arguably
the most important engineering discipline today. The
materials scientist and engineer must understand the
wide range of phenomena that occur in all classes of
materials: metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, and
electronic materials. The undergraduate curriculum is
designed to provide balance by addressing the scientific
and engineering principles applicable to all classes of
materials as well as the particular engineering and
design concepts unique to each class of material.
Courses:
Materials Science
Chemical systems engineering
The course of chemical systems engineering aims to
educate students to equip themselves with the
knowledge and abilities for the chemical engineering
systems and processes, to be able to take an effective
role at international stage.
DEPARTMENT OF
Systems Engineering
Systems Engineering aims at making large-scale and complicated systems more accessible and less hazardous. In contrast to other disciplines in engineering, each of which deals with a specific technological field constituting only a part of the systems, Systems Engineering deals with the whole systems by comprehensive and synthetic approaches. System Engineering focuses on how to construct useful systems by organizing all technical components in the systems, in order to accomplish the purpose of the systems and to solve real-world problems. Courses:
Information systems course
Digital contents course
Education systems course
To cope with global issues such as population growth, resource consumption and ecological crisis, our present society requires interdisciplinary engineers who have system thinking capability. To nurture interdisciplinary engineers, our department employs group learning, participatory lectures, and practical trainings. These methodologies aim to teach
1. Knowledge and skills to design and manage systems based on understanding of interdisciplinary subjects 2. Cooperation and communication 3. Activeness, initiative, and planning ability
Finally, the students master the way of using computers as a tool to solve several kinds of real-world problems.

About Hamamatsu Hamamatsu is famous as an industrial city, especially for motorcycles and musical instruments. It is the home of many world-famous companies such as SUZUKI, HONDA, YAMAHA, KAWAI Piano and HAMAMATSU Photonic.
As Hamamatsu is close to Nagoya and located midway between Tokyo and Osaka, all of the three major metropolitan areas are readily accessible. The population is approximately 820,000, including 1,027 Vietnamese, 896 Indonesian and 195 Thai (as of 2009). The climate is relatively mild throughout the year. In winter, it is not so cold that snow seldom falls except for mountain districts. However, it is often windy because of the seasonal north-west wind. A rainy season occurs from June to early July. In summer, we have hot and humid weather. Sometimes the temperature exceeds 35 °C.
