Host: 영남대 사이버감성연구소 Location: 영남대 제2인문관 302호 Time: Monday, October 20 , 13:00 Talk title Situating social network games in the everyday (with a focus on Australian players) Talk description This talk will explore some of the ways in which social network games – games played with others through social networks such as Facebook - are situated within the everyday and how we might begin to explain this. It is hoped that the inclusion of some Australian survey material on Australian game play practices might also act as a prompt for audience discussion towards the end of the presentation in relation to Korean social network games practices. Bio Michele Willson is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Internet Studies (founded in 2000, it is one of/ the first Internet departments in the world), Curtin University, Western Australia. Michele’s research has been concentrated on understanding the many ways in which people engage with one another through technology. This has included research on virtual and online communities; social media and social networks; academic collaboration processes and e-research; social filtering practices (with an increasing awareness of the materiality of technological processes); and social and casual games. Author of Technically Together: Rethinking Community within Techno-Society (2006) and co-author of A New Theory of the Internet: Public Sphere meets Protocol (2011), Michele has also published a number of articles on these topics. She is currently in the process of compiling a co-edited book entitled Social, Casual, Mobile: Changing Games (to be published in 2015) that critically explores the changing landscape of games, gamers and game practices.
