GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This facility is a 3,668 square foot addition to the 10,407 square foot existing Faith DevelopmentCenter. It is constructed of Type VB Construction. It contains Group A-3 occupancy. The total gross floor area equals 14,075square feet.
CHAPTER 3 USE AND OCCUPANCY CLASSIFICATION
SECTION 302 - CLASSIFICATION
302.1 General. Structures or portions of structures shall be classified with respect to occupancy in one or more of the groupslisted below. A room or space that is intended to be occupied at different times for different purposes shall comply with all ofthe requirements that are applicable to each of the purposes for which the room or space will be occupied. Structures withmultiple occupancies or uses shall comply with Section 508. Where a structure is proposed for a purpose that is not specificallyprovided for in this code, such structure shall be classified in the group that the occupancy most nearly resembles, according tothe fire safety and relative hazard involved.
1. Assembly (see Section 303): Group A-3
SECTION 303 ASSEMBLY GROUP A
303.1 Assembly Group A. Assembly Group A occupancy includes, among others, the use of a building or structure, or a portionthereof, for the gathering of persons for purposes such as civic, social or religious functions; recreation, food or drinkconsumption or awaiting transportation.
A-3 Assembly uses intended for worship, recreation or amusement and other assembly uses not classified elsewhere in Group Aincluding, but not limited to: Places of religious worship and community halls.
CHAPTER 5 GENERAL BUILDING HEIGHTS AND AREAS
SECTION 503 GENERAL BUILDING HEIGHT AND AREA LIMITATIONS
503.1 General. The building height and area shall not exceed the limits specified in Table 503 based on the type ofconstruction as determined by Section 602 and the occupancies as determined by Section 302 except as modified hereafter.Each portion of a building separated by one or more fire walls complying with Section 706 shall be considered to be a separatebuilding.TABLE 503 ALLOWABLE BUILDING HEIGHTS AND AREAS

CHAPTER 6 TYPES OF CONSTRUCTION
SECTION 602 CONSTRUCTION CLASSIFICATION
602.1 General. Buildings and structures erected or to be erected, altered, or extended in height or area shall be classified inone of the fire construction types defined in Section 602.2 through 602.5. The building elements shall have a fire-resistancenot less than that specified in Table 601 and exterior walls shall have a fire-resistance rating not less than that specified inTable 602. Where required to have a fire-resistance rating by Table 601, building elements shall comply with the applicableprovisions of Section 703.2. The protection of openings, ducts, and air transfer openings in building elements shall not berequired unless required by other provisions of this code.
THEREFORE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH TABLE 601 FIRE-RESISTANCE RATING TYPE VB CONSTRUCTION, REQUIRES 0 HOURS OFFIRE-RESISTANCE FOR ALL BUILDING ELEMENTS.
602.1.1 Minimum requirements. A building or portion thereof shall not be required to conform to the details of a type ofconstruction higher than that type which meets the minimum requirements based on occupancy even though certain features ofsuch a building actually conform to a higher type of construction.
602.5 Type V. Type V construction is that type of construction in which the structural elements, exterior walls and interior wallsare of any materials permitted by this code.CHAPTER 7 FIRE AND SMOKE PROTECTION FEATURES
SECTION 701 GENERAL
701.1 Scope. The provisions of this chapter shall govern the materials, systems, and assemblies used for structural fire-resistance and fire-resistance rated construction separation of adjacent spaces to safeguard against the spread of fire andsmoke within a building and the spread of fire to or from buildings.
SECTION 705 EXTERIOR WALLS
705.1 General. Exterior walls shall comply with this section.
705.2 Projections. Cornices, eave overhangs, exterior balconies and similar projections extending beyond the exterior wall shallconform to the requirements of this section and Section 1406. Exterior egress balconies and exterior egress stairways andramps shall also comply with Section 1019 and 1026, respectively. Projections shall not extend any closer to the line used todetermine the fire separation distance than shown in Table 705.2.
THEREFORE, PROJECTIONS SHALL NOT EXTEND CLOSER THAN 40 INCHES FROM THE LINE USED TO DETERMINE FSD.
705.8 Openings. Openings in exterior walls shall comply with Sections 705.8.1 thru 705.8.6.
Exception 2: Buildings whose exterior bearing walls, exterior nonbearing wall, and exterior primary structural frame are notrequired to be fire-resistance rated shall be permitted to have unlimited unprotected openings.
THEREFORE, THE BUILDINGS UNPROTECTED OPENINGS ARE UNLIMITED.
SECTION 706 FIRE WALLS
706.1 General. Each portion of a building separated by one or more fire walls that comply with the provisions of this sectionshall be considered a separate building. The extent and location of such fire walls shall provide a complete separation. Wherea fire wall also separates occupancies that are required to be separated by a fire barrier wall, the most restrictive requirementsof each separation shall apply.
706.2 Structural stability. Fire walls shall have sufficient structural stability under fire conditions to allow collapse of constructionon either side without collapse of the wall for the duration of time indicated by the required fire-resistance rating or shall beconstructed as double fire walls in accordance with NFPA 221.
706.3 Materials. Fire walls shall be of any approved noncombustible materials.EXCEPTION: Buildings of Type V construction.
TABLE 706.4 FIRE WALL FIRE-RESISTANCE RATINGSGROUP: A FIRE RESISTANCE RATING: 3(a)a. In Type II or V construction, walls shall be permitted to have a 2-hour fire-resistance rating.
THEREFORE, FIRE WALLS SHALL BE PERMITTED WITH A 2-HOUR FIRE-RESISTANCE RATING.
706.5.1 Exterior Walls. Where the fire wall intersects exterior walls, the fire-resistance rating and opening protection of theexterior walls shall comply with one of the following:
1. The exterior walls on both sides of the fire wall shall have a 1-hour fire-resistance rating with ¾ hour protection whereopening protection is required by section 705.8. The fire-resistance rating of the exterior wall shall extend a minimum of 4 feeton each side of the intersection of the fire wall to exterior wall. Exterior wall intersections at fire walls that form an angle equal toor greater than 180 degrees do not need exterior wall protection.
706.6 Vertical continuity. Fire walls shall extend from the foundation to a termination point at least 30 inches (762 mm) aboveboth adjacent roofs.
EXCEPTIONS:4. In buildings of Type III, IV and V construction, walls shall be permitted to terminate at the underside of combustible roofsheathing or decks, provided:4.1. There are no openings in the roof within 4 feet (1220 mm) of the fire wall,4.2. The roof is covered with a minimum Class B roof covering, and4.3. The roof sheathing or deck is constructed of fire-retardant-treated wood for a distance of 4 feet (1220 mm) on bothsides of the wall or the roof is protected with 5/8-inch (15.9 mm) Type X gypsum board directly beneath the underside of theroof sheathing or deck, supported by a minimum of 2-inch (51 mm) nominal ledgers attached to the sides of the roof framingmembers for a minimum distance of 4 feet (1220 mm) on both sides of the fire wall.
706.8 Openings. Each opening through a fire wall shall be protected in accordance with Section 716.5 and shall not exceed156 square feet (15 m2). The aggregate width of openings at any floor level shall not exceed 25 percent of the length of thewall.
CHAPTER 8 INTERIOR FINISHES
SECTION 803 WALL AND CEILING FINISHES
803.1.1 Interior wall and ceiling finish materials. Interior wall and ceiling finish materials shall be classified in accordance withASTM E 84 or UL 723. Such interior finish materials shall be grouped in the following classes in accordance with their flamespread and smoke-developed indexes.
Class A: Flame spread index 0-25; smoke-developed index 0-450.Class B: Flame spread index 26-75; smoke-developed index 0-450.Class C: Flame spread index 76-200; smoke-developed index 0-450.
803.9 Interior finish requirements based on group. Interior wall and ceiling finish shall have a flame spread index not greaterthan that specified in Table 803.9 for the group and location designated. Interior wall and ceiling finish materials tested inaccordance with NFPA 286 and meeting the acceptance criteria of Section 803.1.2.1, shall be permitted to be usedwhere a Class A classification in accordance with ASTM E 84 or UL 723 is required.
THUS, ACCORDING TO TABLE 803.9 - FOR A NONSPRINKLERED GROUP A-3 OCCUPANCY: EXIT ENCLOSURES & EXITPASSAGEWAYS SHALL HAVE A 'CLASS A' FINISH. ROOMS & ENCLOSED SPACES SHALL HAVE A 'CLASS C' FINISH.
SECTION 804 - INTERIOR FLOOR FINISH
804.1 General. Interior floor finish and floor covering materials shall comply with Sections 804.2 through 804.4.1.Exception: Floor finishes and coverings of a traditional type, such as wood, vinyl, linoleum or terrazzo, and resilient floorcovering materials that are not comprised of fibers.
804.2 Classification. Interior floor finish and floor covering materials required by Section 804.4.1 to be of Class I or IImaterials shall be classified in accordance with NFPA253. The classification referred to herein corresponds to theclassifications determined by NFPA 253 as follows: Class I, 0.45 watts/cm2 or greater; Class II, 0.22 watts/cm2 orgreater.
804.4.1 Minimum critical radiant flux. Interior floor finish and floor covering materials in exit enclosures, exit passageways andcorridors shall not be less than Class I in Groups I-1, I-2 and I-3 and not less than Class II in Groups A, B, E, H, I-4, M,R-1, R-2 and S. In all areas, floor covering materials shall comply with the DOCFF-1 “pill test” (CPSC 16 CFR, Part 1630).
CHAPTER 9 - FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS
SECTION 903 - AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER SYSTEMS
[F] 903.1 General. Automatic sprinkler systems shall comply with this section.
[F] 903.2.1 Group A. An automatic sprinkler system shall be provided throughout buildings and portion thereof used asGroup A occupancies as provided in the section. For Group A1-1, A-2, A-3, or A-4 occupancies, the automatic sprinklersystem shall be provided throughout the floor area where the Group A-1, A-2, A-3, or A-4 occupancy is located. And in allfloors from the Group A occupancy to, and including, the nearest level of exit discharge serving the Group A occupancy. ForGroup A-5 occupancies, the automatic sprinkler system shall be provided in the spaces indicated in Section 903.2.1.5.
[F] 903.2.1.3 Group A-3. An automatic sprinkler system shall be provided for Group A-3 occupancies where one of thefollowing conditions exists:1. The fire area exceeds 12,000 square feet (1115 m2);2. The fire area has an occupant load of 300 or more
THUS, THIS FACILITY IS PROVIDED WITH A SEPARATING FIRE WALL.
SECTION 906 - PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
[F] 906.1 Where required. Portable fire extinguishers shall be installed in the following locations.1. In new and existing Group A, B, E, F, H, I, M, R-1, R-2, R-4 and S occupancies.2. THUS, PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS ARE PROVIDED AS REQUIRED.
CHAPTER 10 MEANS OF EGRESS
SECTION 1001 ADMINISTRATION
1001.2 Minimum requirements. It shall be unlawful to alter a building or structure in a manner that will reduce the number ofexits or the capacity of the means of egress to less than required by this code.
SECTION 1003 GENERAL MEANS OF EGRESS
1003.2 Ceiling Height. The means of egress shall have a ceiling height of not less than 7 feet 6 inches.
1003.4 Floor surface. Walking surfaces of the means of egress shall have a slip-resistant surface and be securely attached.
SECTION 1004 OCCUPANT LOAD
1004.1 Design occupant load. In determining means of egress requirements, the number of occupants for whom means ofegress facilities shall be provided shall be determined in accordance with this section.
1004.1.1 Areas without fixed seating. The number of occupants shall be computed at the rate of one occupant per unit ofarea as prescribed in Table 1004.1.2. For areas without fixed seating, the occupant load shall not be less than that numberdetermined by dividing the floor area under consideration by the occupant per unit of area factor assigned to the occupancyas set forth in Table 1004.1.2. Where an intended use is not listed in Table 1004.1.2, the building official shall establish ause based on a listed use that most nearly resembles the intended function.
THEREFORE, TABLE 1004.1.2 MAXIMUM FLOOR AREA ALLOWANCES PER OCCUPANT HAS BEEN USED TO GENERATE"OCCUPANT LOAD TABLES". FOUNDATION SHEET G1.2
1004.3 Posting of occupant load. Every room or space that is an assembly occupancy shall have the occupant load of theroom or space posted in a conspicuous place, near the main exit or exit access doorway from the room or space. Postedsigns shall be of an approved legible permanent design and shall be maintained by the owner or authorized agent.
SECTION 1005 MEANS OF EGRESS SIZING
1005.3 Required capacity based on occupant load. The required capacity, in inches, of the means of egress for any room,area, space or story shall not be less than that determined in accordance with Section 1005.3.1 and 1005.3.2.
1005.3.2 Other egress components. The capacity, in inches, of means of egress components other than stairways shall becalculated by multiplying the occupant load served by such component be a means of egress capacity factor of 0.2 inch peroccupant.
THEREFORE, NO SINGLE DOOR (32" X 0.2/OCC) HAS MORE THAN 160 OCCUPANTS EXITING.
1005.7.1 Doors. Doors, when fully opened, shall not reduce the required means of egress width by more than 7 inches.Doors in any position shall not reduce the required width by more than one-half.
1007.1 Accessible means of egress required. Accessible means of egress shall comply with this section. Accessiblespaces shall be provided with not less than one accessible means of egress. Where more than one means of egress arerequired by Section 1015.1 or 1021.1 from any accessible space, each accessible portion of the space shall be servedby not less than two accessible means of egress.
SECTION 1008 - DOORS, GATES AND TURNSTILES
1008.1.1 Size of doors. The minimum width of each door opening shall be sufficient for the occupant load thereof andshall provide a clear width of not less than 32 inches (813 mm). Clear openings of doorways with swinging doors shall bemeasured between the face of the door and the stop, with the door open 90 degrees (1.57 rad). Where this sectionrequires a minimum clear width of 32 inches (813 mm) and a door opening includes two door leaves without a mullion, oneleaf shall provide a clear opening width of 32 inches (813 mm). The maximum width of a swinging door leaf shall be 48 inches(1219 mm) nominal. The height of doors shall not be less than 80 inches (2032 mm).
1008.1.1.1 Projection into clear width. There shall not be projections into the required clear width lower than 34 inchesabove the floor or ground. Projections into the clear opening width between 34 inches and 80 inches above the floor orground shall not exceed 4 inches.
1008.1.2 Door swing. Egress doors shall be of the pivoted or side-hinged swinging type. Doors shall swing in the directionof egress travel where serving an occupant load of 50 or more persons or a Group H occupancy.
1008.1.6 Landings at doors. Landings shall have a width not less than the width of the stairway or the door, whichever isgreater. Doors in the fully open position shall not reduce a required dimension by more than 7 inches. When a landing servesan occupant load of 50 or more, doors in any position shall not reduce the landing to less than one-half its required width.Landings shall have a length measured in the direction of travel of not less than 44 inches.
1008.1.9.5 Unlatching. The unlatching of any door or leaf shall not require more than one operation.
1008.1.10 Panic and fire exit hardware. Doors serving a Group H occupancy and doors serving rooms or spaces with anoccupant load of 50 or more in a Group A or E occupancy shall not be provided with a latch or lock unless it is panichardware or fire exit hardware.
SECTION 1011 EXIT SIGNS
1011.1 Where required. Exits and exit access doors shall be marked by an approved exit sign readily visible from anydirection of egress travel. The path of egress travel to exits and within exits shall be marked by readily visible exit signs toclearly indicate the direction of egress travel in cases where the exit or the path of egress travel is not immediately visibleto the occupants. Intervening means of egress doors within exits shall be marked by exit signs. Exit sign placement shall besuch that no point in an exit access corridor or exit passageway is more than 100 feet (30 480 mm) or the listed viewingdistance for the sign, whichever is less, from the nearest visible exit sign.
THUS, EXIT SIGNS SHALL BE PROVIDED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS SECTION.
SECTION 1012 - HANDRAILS
1012.1 Where required. Handrails for stairways and ramps shall be adequate in strength and attachment in accordance withSection 1607.8. Handrails required for stairways by Section 1009.15 shall comply with Sections 1012.2 through 1012.9.Handrails required for ramps by Section 1010.9 shall comply with Sections 1012.2 through 1012.8.
THUS, HANDRAILS SHALL BE PROVIDED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS SECTION.
SECTION 1014 - EXIT ACCESS
1014.1 General. The exit access shall comply with the applicable provisions of Sections 1003 through 1013. Exit accessarrangement shall comply with Sections 1014 through 1019.
1014.3 Common path of egress travel. The common path of egress travel shall not exceed the common path of egress traveldistances in Table 1014.3.

SECTION 1015 - EXIT AND EXIT ACCESS DOORWAYS
1015.1 Exits or exit access doorways from spaces. Two exits or exit access doorways from any space shall be provided whereone of the following conditions exists:
1. The occupant load of the space exceeds the values in Table 1015.1.2. The common path of egress travel exceeds one of the limitations of Section 1014.3.3. Where required by Sections 1015.3, 1015.4 and 1015.5, or 1015.6.

THEREFORE, ACTIVITY 132 AND YOUTH MINISTRIES 137 SHALL HAVE 2 EXITS.
1015.2 Exit or exit access doorway arrangement. Required exits shall be located in a manner that makes their availabilityobvious. Exits shall be unobstructed at all times. Exit and exit access doorways shall be arranged in accordance with Sections1015.2.1 and 1015.2.2.
1015.2.1 Two exits or exit access doorways. Where two exits or exit access doorways are required from any portion of theexit access, the exit doors or exit access doorways shall be placed a distance apart equal to not less than one-half of thelength of the maximum overall diagonal dimension of the building or area to be served measured in a straight line between exitdoors or exit access doorways. Interlocking or scissor stairs shall be counted as one exit stairway.
SECTION 1016 - EXIT ACCESS TRAVEL DISTANCE
1016.2 Travel distance limitations. Exit access travel distance shall not exceed the values given in Table 1016.2

SECTION 1018 - CORRIDORS
1018.1 Construction. Corridors shall be fire-resistance rated in accordance with Table 1018.1. The corridor walls required tobe fire-resistance rated shall comply with Section 708 for fire partitions.

1018.2 Corridor width. The minimum width of corridors specified in Table 1018.2 shall be as determined in Section 1005.1.
THEREFORE, THE MINIMUM CORRIDOR WIDTH SHALL BE 44 INCHES WITH A 1-HOUR RATING.
1018.4 Dead ends. Where more than one exit or exit access doorway is required, the exit access shall be arranged suchthat there are no dead ends in corridors more than 20 feet (6096 mm) in length.
SECTION 1027 EXIT DISCHARGE
1027.1 General. Exits shall discharge directly to the exterior of the building. The exit discharge shall be at grade or shallprovide direct access to grade. The exit discharge shall not re-enter a building.
CHAPTER 11 ACCESSIBILITY
SECTION 1101 GENERAL
1101.2 Design. Buildings and facilities shall be designed and constructed to be accessible in accordance with this code andICC A117.1.
SECTION 1103 SCOPE REQUIREMENTS
1103.1 Where required. Sites, buildings, structures, facilities, elements and spaces, temporary or permanent, shall beaccessible to persons with physical disabilities.
1103.2 General exceptions. Sites, buildings, structures, facilities, elements and spaces shall be exempt from this chapter tothe extent specified in this section.
1103.2.1 Specific requirements. Accessibility is not required in buildings and facilities, or portions thereof, to the extentpermitted by Sections 1104 through 1110.
1103.2.3 Employee work areas. Spaces and elements within employee work areas shall only be required to comply withSections 907.9.1.2, 1007 and 1104.3.1 and shall be designed and constructed so that individuals with disabilities canapproach, enter and exit the work area. Work areas, or portions of work areas, that are less than 300 square feet (30 m2) inarea and located 7 inches (178 mm) or more above or below the ground or finish floor where the change in elevation is essentialto the function of the space shall be exempt from all requirements.
1103.2.9 Equipment spaces. Spaces frequented only by personnel for maintenance, repair or monitoring of equipment are notrequired to be accessible. Such spaces include, but are not limited to, elevator pits, elevator penthouses, mechanical, electricalor communications equipment rooms, piping or equipment catwalks, water or sewage treatment pump rooms and stations,electric substations and transformer vaults, and highway and tunnel utility facilities.
SECTION 1104 ACCESSIBLE ROUTE
1104.1 Site arrival points. Accessible routes within the site shall be provided from public transportation stops; accessibleparking; accessible passenger loading zones; and public streets or sidewalks to the accessible building entrance served.
SECTION 1106 PARKING AND PASSENGER LOADING FACILITIES
1106.1 Required. Where parking is provided, accessible parking spaces shall be provided in compliance with Table 1106.1,except as required by Sections 1106.2 through 1106.4. Where more than one parking facility is provided on a site, thenumber of parking spaces required to be accessible shall be calculated separately for each parking facility.
THEREFORE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH TABLE 1106.1, ACCESSIBLE PARKING SPACES SHALL BE PROVIDED.
SECTION 1110 SIGNAGE
1110.1 Signs. Required accessible elements shall be identified by the International Symbol of Accessibility at the followinglocations:
1. Accessible parking spaces required by Section 1106.1 except where the total number of parking spaces provided is four orless.

SHALL BE REMOVED AND REPLACED IN AN ACCEPTABLE MANNER, AS REQUIRED BY OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE AT THE
CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE. WORK DONE CONTRARY TO THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE, WORK
DONE BEYOND THE LINES SHOWN ON THE PLANS OR ANY EXTRA WORK DONE WITHOUT WRITTEN AUTHORIZATION WILL
NOT BE PAID FOR.

PERMANENTLY SEEDED OR SODDED. THESE AREAS SHALL BE SEEDED OR SODDED NO LATER THAN 14 DAYS AFTER THE
LAST CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY OCCURRING IN THESE AREAS.
8. ALL MATERIALS SPILLED, DROPPED, WASHED, OR TRACKED FROM VEHICLES ONTO ROADWAYS OR INTO STORM DRAINS
MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY.
9. CONTRACTORS OR SUBCONTRACTORS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVING SEDIMENT THAT MAY HAVE COLLECTED IN
THE STORM SEWER DRAINAGE SYSTEMS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE STABILIZATION OF THE SITE.

12. ALL STORM SEWER INTAKES THAT RECEIVE STORM WATER RUNOFF FROM DISTURBED AREAS SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH
A FILTER SACK FOR INTAKE PROTECTION.
13. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR INSTALLATION, PERIODIC CHECKING AND REINSTALLATION OF EROSION AND
SEDIMENTATION CONTROL MEASURES.

FOOTING ELEVATIONS AND ALLOWABLE BEARING CAPACITIES ARE ESTIMATED PER THE IBC. BEARING CAPACITIES SHALL BEFIELD VERIFIED BY THE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER AS PART OF THE SPECIAL INSPECTION PROGRAM. NOTIFY THE STRUCTURALENGINEER IF INADEQUATE CONDITIONS ARE ENCOUNTERED.
IN LIEU OF OVER-EXCAVATION BELOW FOOTINGS, A GROUND IMPROVEMENT SOLUTION MAY BE DESIGNED (AGGREGATEPIERS, ETC.) TO PROVIDE A COMPRABLE OR HIGHER BEARING CAPACITY TO THAT SHOWN ABOVE. IF THIS OPTION IS CHOSEN& DESIGNED FOR, THE FOUNDATION PLAN WILL NOTE THIS.
