This magazine, as the name probably made quite obvious, will be re-leased everyday - Monday to Friday. Its purpose will be to relay to you the highlights of the days’ news in music and in film. We will endeavour to publish an issue every evening.

The Angle Daily is an interactive magazine. That means that unlike a lot of other publications that just talk about music and video, we can actually show them to you and include them on the page itself. The majority of the images inside are clickable- doing so could allow you to play a video, listen to a song or just visit a website. The article will probably tell you what to expect.

We’re currently looking for unsigned bands and artists to feature in this magazine. To have a news piece written about something you have com-ing up- be it a new record, a massive tour, something you’ve released that you want streamed, whatever- or to have something reviewed, just send an email.

NEWS: saint(the)sinner put out new epSaint(the)Sinner, post-hardcore rockers from the south coast, released their new EP, Masquerades, on Halloween following an online stream premiere. The band are currently teasing a clip of the upcoming new video for their latest single, Now or Never, Lost Forever, which is to be unveiled fully soon.

The EP is certainly worth checking out, possessing many an infectious pop infused hard edged anthem, with a dash of dark drama.

NEWS: andrew vanstone release single from epSoloist Andrew Vanstone has announced the release of his track, How We Got Here, from the EP of the same name, which is also available for purchase via Super Sick Records.

The acoustic singer/songwriter has been noticed for his combination of his ‘rough and energetic’ sounds, which are technical and melodic and infused with a catchiness that gets the listener’s foot tapping. He has been likened to Charlie Simpson and Morrisey, both soulful and honest.

Both the EP and the single, entitled How We Got Here, are available to purchase online, and the track can be listened to via the image above. HA.


NEWS: skies announce new singleKent-based duo Skies have released their new single, Leave Me, via LAB Records. The pair have recently been causing a stir with their synth-laden indie pop, recommended for fans of Paramore and CHVRCHES.

Leave Me displays the band’s slightly heavier capacity, whilst delivering the same punchy choruses that have been earning them a reputation. Skies are also producing their EP, If You Feel Like It, which is available to preorder now. You can listen to the single via the image above. Skies will be performing live shows throughout November on the following dates:

NEWS: Highlives release new singleHighlives Release New Single Better DaysPop Punkers from Bristol Highlives have just released the video for their new single, Better Days. The track is the lead single from the band’s upcoming EP, Misguided Youth, which is set for release on December 11th.

Better Day is pretty relatable, as Front-man Liam Edwards explains: “The song is about how easy it is to get drawn into bad situations through your younger years, and the line ‘truth us, we’ve all seen better days’ plays as a reassurance that everyone experiences this at some point in their lives, and that no one is experiencing them alone.”

NEWS: kapil seshasayee releases singleSolo artist Kapil Seshasayee has released his new single, Brazen, following on from his Crimes EP, which was released earlier on this year on August 7th.

Taking influence from the likes of Bjork, Big Black, Neil Young and Owls, Kapil Seshasayee produces am-bient sounds supported by his thought-provoking songwriting which combines and creates a provocative and dynamic sound.

NEWS: sugar panthers release new epRock duo Sugar Panthers have announced their new EP, Volume 1.

Recorded by the band in Las Vegas, the EP has been described as ‘riff-heavy, tightly-crafted tuneage’ with Sugar Panthers turning a few heads over their ‘explosive live shows’.

The EP will be accompanied by a launch party as part of Independent Venue Week in Edinburgh during January, but the band are ‘hungry to play live all over between now and then’.

EP review: quiet as a mouse- memory boxFronted by Alex Moran, who was once called “a genius and a prophet” by The Daily Record, Edinburgh four-piece Quiet As A Mouse gained a great re-ception with their 2014 EP British Flag, described as being “like The Smiths, Orange Juice and Brian Jonestown Massacre” and “knowing, fragile and indie-tastic”. Memorybox has a lot to live up to.

The record opens with Snowflake, a sharp love song with a slow drum beat and a beautiful bassline, that reaches its crescendo with a burst of impres-sive guitar work.

Fantastically named second track The Day The Cat Came To Stay is an upt-empo indie song with folk influences that once again showcase the band’s fine guitar playing. The pace drops in track three, Letter In My Pocket, a melodic love song that only raises its tempo in the chorus.

The closer Memorybox sees Alex Moran change his vocal tone, going down an almost spoken word route. The track’s music is delicate and lively, per-haps even the finest arrangement on the whole EP.

Memorybox is an EP with a strong and diverse variety of sounds. It’s full of fine melody and smooth vocals, and many a hint that these bands have more to come from out their sleeve. AN

news: the last shadow puppets announce new album The Last Shadow Puppets, a super group featuring Miles Kane and Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys, have, according to drummer and producer James Ford, completed their second album.

Ford, of Simian Mobile Disco fame, confirmed the news in a recent interview: “This year, I’ve just done a Last Shadow Puppets record, which is the guy from Arctic Monkeys and Miles,” Ford said. “So we did the follow-up album to that. That’s the last thing I did.” Ford also confirmed that the album will be “out next year sometime. AN

news: the courteeners reveal charity christmas singleThe Courteeners have revealed Winter Wonderland, their Christmas charity single.

Described as being “custom built for live shows” the track, the proceeds from which will go to housing and homelessness charity Shelter, was written by front-man Liam Fray on Norah Jones’ piano.

Winter Wonderland will appear alongside three EP rarities and five unreleased acoustic versions of existing tracks on the band’s deluxe reissue of their fourth album, Concrete Love. It will be released on [PIAS] as Concrete Love-Extra Love on November 27th. AN


NEWS: don broco release new videoDon Broco have released the new music video for their upcoming single, Nerve.

The track is the latest to be taken from the band’s album, Automatic, and also appears on FIFA 16. You can check it out via the image above.

NEWS: weezer release new music videoWeezer have released the official video for their single, Thank God For Girls.

The video, directed by SCANTRON, features the band’s frontman, Rivers Cuomo, as a preacher enjoying gam-bling and women inbetween conducting sham sermons, conducting sham sermons and performing false mira-cles. The band have released two singles recently, but have made no official announcement about a new album, claiming instead that they are “on the loose and experimenting.”

NEWS: missy elliot talks wtf videoMissy Elliot has opened up about the painful process behind her new video, WTF (Where They From).

The track was the rapper’s first track since a pair of iTunes-only releases which came out back in 2012. Her last album was way back in 2005, The Cookbook. Of the video Missy Elliot said: “We all came up with the glass outfit, which was the hardest thing to wear because it was really cut up glass so I was bleeding and everything!”she said. “I was so agitated but I had to get it done. I was bloody and bloodied. There was blood everywhere!”

She also spoke about the pressure that came with releasing new music after such a long break: “I knew that peo-ple know me for my videos and so the expectation from those who grew up on my music was high. My goodness. I swear to God, I felt like I sweated out my tracks the night before the video dropped! My weave was messed up waiting for this video to come out!” AN

NEWS: miss may i release new music videoMetalcore band Miss May I have unveiled the new video for their track, Turn Back The Time, the third single to be taken from their most recent offering, Deathless.

The video, which you can watch via the image above, was directed by Max Moore.

Miss May I are currently supporting Parkway Drive on their US tour, alongside Thy Art Is Murder and In Hearts Wake. AN

news: fast & furious spinoffs in developmentIt’s no real surprise given the success of the franchise, but Vin Diesel has con-firmed that the Fast & Furious team are in the early stages of developing Fast & Furious spinoff movies.

“We’ve written out story lines for various characters,” Diesel tells Variety. “We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property and we’re committed to treating it with a lot of class.”

Of course anyone who follows Diesel on social media will know that the actor isn’t also reliable in what he says, but Universal have backed his comments. “We’re certainly in conversations about how we can expand the franchise now,” Universal boss Donna Langley confirms. “It’s an ensemble cast and there’s room to bring characters in and out.”

The next instalment in the franchise is due out in April 2017. Director F Gary Gray is reportedly planning a trilogy. “We have a director who is going to bring the darkness out and bring out the character,” says Diesel.

“You can’t keep having every movie have bigger and bigger stunts forever and ever and ever,” says Universal’s Jeff Shell. “Eventually you have to really focus on the story. We’ll still have big stunts but bringing in this amazing storyteller is going to be great.”

Personally we were surprised that Vin Diesel and co. didn’t call it a day after the tragic death of Paul Walker. The franchise is, of course, extremely profitable, so we can’t help but think all involved are merely looking ahead with dollar signs in their eyes, rather than considering art in any shape or form. NEWS: memento remake plannedA remake of Memento, Christian No-lan’s mainstream debut, is planned by Universal.

The original, which starred Guy Pearce, Carrie-Anne Moss and Joe Pantoliano and was released back in 2000, followed amnesiac Leonard as he attempted to uncover the truth about the murder of his wife.

The movie gained attention for its fasci-nating editing, which blended black and white footage that planned chronologi-

cally, and colour scenes that were shown in reverse order.

“Memento has been consistently ranked as one of the best films of its decade,” says AMBI Pictures’ Andrea Ier-volino. “People who’ve seen Memento 10 times still feel they need to see it one more time. This is a quality that we feel really supports and justifies a remake. The bar is set high thanks to the brilliance or Christopher Nolan, but we wouldn’t want it any other way.”

NEWS: matthew mcconaughey in talks for the dark towerThings seem to be moving along for the long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King’s fantasy saga, The Dark Tow-er, as The Wrap has reported that Matthew McConaughey is in preliminary talks to take one of the leading roles.

Sources have admitted that his involvement is still in the early stages as he’s only very recently been given a script, which was adapted by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner and is said to revolve around the events of the first novel, in which gunslinger Roland Deschain encounters the Man In Black on the barren desert of Mid-World. Apparently McConaughey is eyeing up the role of the villainous Walter Padick, the Man In Black. He’s a demonic sorcerer and the main antagonist in another Stephen King saga, The Stand. Directed by Nikolaj Arcei, the first movie, which Sony and MRC are co-financing, is set to be released January 23rd 2017, along with a companion TV series. AN


NEWS: ryan gosling to star in blade runner 2Earlier this year news came to light that Ryan Gosling was in talks to star opposite Harrison Ford in a sequel to cult movie Blade Runner. Well, it would appear that those talks were successful, as while talking to press about his forthcoming movie The Big Short, the Drive actor confirmed that he would in fact be starring in the movie.

The original Blade Runner came out in 1982 and is still regarded as one of the best sci-fi movies of all time. The movie is so well thought of that those behind and in front of the camera will definitely have their work cut out in making a movie that, to put it bluntly, won’t be shat on by film fans and critics alike. Directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Gosling and Ford, filming on Blade Runner 2 is set to commence next summer, with a release date yet to be confirmed. AN

NEWS: posters arrive for the huntsman: winter's warNew character posters have been unveiled for Snow White And The Huntsman prequel The Huntsman: Winter’s War. You can see those posters on the previous page.

The movie sees Chris Hemsworth return as Eric, The Huntsman and title character, alongside Jessica Chastain as Sara, a warrior. The film is set years before the events of the first film and begins as the evil Ravenna’s (Charlize Theron) sister and ice queen, Freya (Emily Blunt), flees the kingdom following a heart-breaking betrayal. She soon begins raising an army of deadly huntsmen, including Eric and Sara, who must shun love. Of course not everyone can obey such an order, which leads the angered ice queen to return to the kingdom in order to raise her sister from the Magic Mirror and seek revenge on the world, punishing it with dark magic. Directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and co-starring Sam Claflin, Sheridan Smith, Nick Frost, Colin Morgan, Sam Hazeldine and Sophie Cookson, The Huntsman: Winter’s War is due to be released April 22nd. film review: the martianIf you like the idea of watching an isolated Matt Damon wander around a deso-late planet for two and half hours, then this is the film for you. However, if you’re like me and don’t have that in your ‘list of what makes films good’, then you will probably get quite bored, like me.

From the trailers and general overview of The Martian, we know that the film is about a man who is stuck on Mars for a long time. Spoiler alert! It really isn’t much more than that. Like a lot of books that have been made into films, it seems that the action and ideas are really much more suited for the written medium. You only see the character’s thoughts and feelings through their actions in film, but books allow the character’s mind to speak to you directly. I think that would work better for a guy who’s alone on Mars.

Matt Damon’s character, Mark Watney, constantly reels off jokes, which are sub-par. They feel far too geared towards knowing there’s a cinema audience sitting in front of them. Obviously, all films know that there’s an audience watching them (you would hope), but this one doesn’t do well in hiding the fact. Mark Watney reels off pop culture references and jokes about his situation just to keep you entertained, rather than himself. Obviously it’s meant to show how bright his attitude is in the face of danger, but it would be better if he were actually funny.

Not only that, but the film treats you like a fool. There were far too many mo-ments where complicated mathematics and space ship trajectories were ex-plained through the use of condiments and general stationary. I know I’m not a rocket scientist, but save me the floating staplers and whooshing noises, Ridley.

Ok, so there are some good elements to this film. The cinematography is stun-ning and if you want to see top budget renditions of the orange, endless and lifeless Mars, then you won’t be disappointed. Much of the film is spent overlook-ing the vast orange terrains with a classically sci-fi score from Harry Gregson-Wil-liams… and a lot of 70’s disco music (Guardians of the Galaxy appears to have started a trend). Another part, which I appreciated, was that there was no love interest! Finally Hollywood, you break one rule of your rigid film structure!

Those two points however, don’t make up for the boredom and sheer length of the film. But if you’re a fan of Matt Damon, then I’m sure you’ll find some joy in the dusty desert of Mars. CM

Cold-Reading: Scratching the Surface of the Most Exploitative Lie

COMMENT:Cold-reading is the art of profiting the be-reaved, Martin Ellis takes a sceptical glance at the world of psychics.

“I’m getting a ‘P’ coming through, and I think it’s a man. Yes, definitely a man. Does that mean anything to you? A ‘P’, is it Patrick or maybe Peter? No, wait, it’s clearer now - Paul? Yes, that’s right he says his name is Paul, is he your grandfather or maybe your uncle? Yes? That’s right, your grandad. He used to be in the army, I’m sensing, or maybe the Navy? No? Well the sea was im-portant to him, that’s for sure. Are you sure there’s no connection here? What’s that? He loved fishing? Yes, that’s what he’s telling me now! He’s laughing, says he was always trying to land the big one! Does that sound like him? Yes, well, as I said, water was very signifi-cant to him in life. OK, so we have your grandad Paul who was a fisherman with us right now. He passed quite suddenly he says, something to do with his chest. A heart attack, you say? Yes that’s right, his heart, very sudden and very sad. He says never got the chance to say good-

bye properly, but he wants you to know that he’s sorry about that and that. He’s telling me that he doesn’t want you to be sad, though …”

We’ve probably all seen or heard a psy-chic at some time, maybe on TV or at a show. Perhaps you’ve been impressed with their uncanny ability to somehow produce information about you or your loved ones that they couldn’t possibly have know in any other way. But are they really doing what they claim to be do-ing – contacting the dead? Many people swear that they are doing just that, but as a sceptic, I can’t simply accept this extraordinary claim without question. After all, the idea that we can speak to the dead runs counter to everything we know about death from a scientific point of view, not to mention the fact that the history of apparent psychic communica-tion is riddled with fakery and fraud! So how could we tell if the ‘psychic’ we’re speaking to is the real deal and not just

another deluded soul or, worse, an out and out charlatan who’s happy to exploit your grief for their own financial gain? Well, you could start by asking yourself a few simple questions as you listen to your psychic of choice giving a reading:

• Is the psychic providing accurate and detailed information or just vague and general statements? There is no obvious reason why the dead should not be able to provide clear unambiguous information such as full names, dates of birth, addresses that they lived at, and so on. If the psychic just gives partial info, such as ‘the letter P’, or ‘a city in the north’ ask yourself why is that? Are they just hoping someone in the audience will fill in the details for them by calling out “that’s my grandad Paul”? Or is it that the dearly departed love noth-ing more than a good tease?

• How many times is the psychic wrong? If a psychic is on a direct line to your relative, shouldn’t everything they tell you be correct? Why would they get basic facts wrong, such as the job the deceased used to have or the names of their grandchildren? Count the number of times they get something wrong, even if they then ‘correct’ it with a little help (“Sarah, no? Well, it’s something with an S … Susan? Ah, Sophie is it?”) and com-pare it to how often they get things right without help.

• Is the psychic asking you to provide information? If so, why? They’re the ones speaking to the dead, right? How much information does the psy-chic actually provide and how much comes from you? If you’re providing most of the info, what exactly is the psychic doing other than prompting you? Come to think of it, if they are

talking to your uncle or whoever, why do they even need to ask you to confirm what they’re saying at all? Is uncle telling fibs?

The truth is that there are many ways that a skilled illusionist can duplicate what supposed psychics do, and with very sim-ilar levels of success. In blind tests (where the audience doesn’t know that the per-former isn’t a ‘real’ psychic), people will still swear that the readings given were amazingly accurate, even though they were achieved using well-established non-psychic techniques. And sadly, peo-ple who are grieving are often very open to the idea that their loved one still lives on in some way. They may grasp on to any hope, no matter how flimsy, and in their heightened emotional state they might miss the tricks and artistry that the purported psychic uses to achieve their goal. Being taken in by a psychic is noth-ing to be ashamed of, of course, they’re often very good at what they do. But if they’re a genuine psychic, they will be able to give you clear, accurate informa-tion without asking for your input. If they can’t do this, ask yourself why not?

META-STASIS-WELCOME TO MY ASYLUM

A Beautifully composed track about pushing through times of hard-ship, and inevitably drink-ing your way through your pain. The Musician-ship on display in Shiny Gun is of the highest order; Shiny Gun gives us everything that we desire from country music, the authentic twang of the guitar that lets you know what you’re listening to, and the classic guitar solo before the final chorus. RH

Lyrics filled with Irony about social beliefs and your standard song about love, loss, romance and all things in between. Think Kate Nash or KT Tunstall with some distortion on the guitar and some foot stomping drum beats that Mumford and Sons would be proud of. However, this fails to distinguish itself outside the realms of ordinary Indie Rock. Having just come back from New York and now off on tour, Expect big things from these girls. RH

Welcome To My Asylum is a bombardment and overload of awesome insane metal, executed to precise and sublime standards. It has everything and more you could hope for, for an extreme metal track; its infectiously melodic, dark, with hard hitting rhythms, tech sounds and beats, not to mention, lots of varied crazy vocals that are com-pelling, making you feel like you are at the ‘asylum’ – a true welcome to their mad house! Once you enter, I don’t think you will want to leave! CL
