SNOWMACHINE SAFETY COURSE2/2, 3/16, 0900 and 1300No cost. For ages 18+ Participants will be issued a Snowmachine Safety Card at the conclusion of the course. This class is required to rent snowmachines from the Outdoor Recreation Center.

GLACIER CAVE EXPLORATION2/9, 3/2, 0700-2000Cost: $75/person.For ages 18+Try something completely unique and journey down inside of a glacier. Brilliant blue ice, winding caverns, and shimmering crystals are just a few of the spectacular sights that can be seen on this trip. This trip is physically challenging, involving periods of crawling, climbing and tight spaces. No experience necessary, but good physical fitness is a must. Our guides will lead you to the cavern via snowmachine and instruct you in the use of the safety equipment. All equipment is provided. Please bring food, water, warm clothing (you may get dirty on this trip) and a head lamp.

Make the most of your 4-day weekend for Washington’s Birthday by joining Outdoor Recreation as we head down to Alyeska Resort in Girdwood for 2 days a skiing or snowboarding at one of the best ski resorts in the country! This trip will leave Friday the 15th for Girdwood, where we will spend 3 nights at the Alyeska Resort Hotel. Saturday and Sunday will be spent on the slopes and we will head back to Fairbanks on Monday the 18th. Trip cost includes lodging, transportation and lift passes. Food is not provided on this trip. FAMILY ½ DAY XC SKI3/16, 1000-1300Cost: $5/person.This is the perfect time of year to hit the local trails with the whole family. There is still plenty of snow but it’s also not too cold out. No experience is needed; we will teach you how to ski. We provide all necessary equipment, just make sure you dress warm enough for the weather. Don’t forget to bring water and a snack.

FAMILY ½ DAY SNOWSHOE3/17, 1300-1500Cost: $5/person.Beat the winter blues by bringing the family out for an afternoon of snowshoeing. We will explore some of our local trails and enjoy the growing daylight of March. We provide all equipment, you just need to bring your warm clothes and water.

ALYESKA SKI/SNOWBOARD ADVENTURE3/22-24, departs at 5 p.m.Cost: $200/person.Join us as we venture south in search of the famous Chugach powder at Alyeska Resort. Alyeska is a world class ski/snowboard destination that has an average of almost 650 inches of snow a year! We will drive down on Friday evening and ride powder all day Saturday. On Sunday we will return to Ft. Wainwright. We provide transportation, lodging and a lift ticket. You provide your own food, ski/snowboard gear (bring your own or rent), and warm clothes. You don’t want to miss these trips so sign up today!

NORTHERN EXPOSURE3/23, 30; 0800-1700Cost: $115/personAges: 12+½ day of mushing + ½ day of snowmachining = A Northern Exposure! All in one day.

This program is conducted in conjunction with the Northern Sky Lodge. Half the participants will be engaged in dog mushing under the supervision of the Northern Sky Lodge Staff. While the other half will make a snowmachine run to the Tanana Flats and back with the

Outdoor Adventure Team. The participants will then switch programs for the second half of the day. If the temps drop below -10 degrees we will try to postpone to a warmer day.Northern Sky Lodge will provide sleds, dog teams and instructions. Outdoor Recreation will provide transportation, snowmachines, helmets and leadership for the snowmachine trip. Lunch is provided but you should bring snacks and drinks for the trail.

The HIRED! Apprenticeship Program provides 15-18 year-old youth with meaningful, professionally managed career-exploration opportunities in Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) operations. The program is open to dependents of active duty, DoDcivilian, and retired military personnel.

• Candidates must be 15–18 years of age• Must be registered with Child, Youth & School Services (CYS Services)• Must have and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or better• Chosen participants are required to work 15 hours/week for 12 weeks• Additional options and requirements may be offered during the Summer Term• Apprentices may complete up to 2 terms/year for 3 consecutive years

The Tube Hill is open Saturdays and Sundays 1300-1900No experience is necessary simply hop in your tube, push off,and enjoy the ride down one of our 800 foot long runs. A tube lift makes the ride back to the top easy. There are risks associated with this activity including, but not limited to: speed; changing weather; terrain; surface and sub-service conditions; collisions with other tubers, natural and man-made objects; and lack of directional and speed control.
