Introduction1. The objects that this Presentation is mention to are my students of

school and I used to teach them History, not English.

2. Both of the objects had learned English for 6 years, however, they had a few chance to speak English though they have 5 English classes per week. All they did in English class was listening to what teacher said in class and wrote them down.

3. They can basically pronounce simple words which are appeared in their textbook, based on their memory of their English teacher’s pronunciation.

4. The objects are willing to find out their pronunciation problems and try to improve them.

DiagnosisProblem Causing Reasons(Both Mena and Victoria): 1. Without Correct Pronunciation Models: According their own memories from teachers (Mena) Many classmates pronounced that way (Victoria) 2. Influenced by their mother tongue: Difference in pronunciation system (Mena, Victoria)

TherapyDay 1 (Apr 22): 1. Imitation Practice: Read the vowels and consonants which they made mistakes Repeat after me Remind the correct pronunciation 2. Mandarin Phonetic Symbols (MPS) Assistance: Make them easily to pronounce correctly To reinforce their memories 3. Record and Distinguish: I read, Mena repeat, Victoria listen, then distinguish if Mena’s

pronunciation is same with me or not. So did Victoria Record their voice and play: To see if there’s any difference

TherapyDay 2 (Apr 29): 1. Review Exam: Ask them to read their wrong voice Examine if they read correctly Results: Some mistakes remains Mena: /æ/, /ð/, /Ʒ/ Victoria: /ᴐ/, /ð/, /v/ 2. Repeat Pronunciation Practice: Focus on those wrong pronunciation Minimal pairs used (reinforce their memories) Repeat and Record (Help them distinguish difference) Results: Mistakes disappeared

TherapyDay 3 (May 6): 1. Review Exam: Ask them to read their wrong voice Examine if they read correctly Results: Phonetic alphabet reading: Perfect Vocabularies reading: Mistakes remains Mena: Occation (Occasion) Victoria: Brictory (Victory) 2. Minimal Pairs Practice: Focus on those wrong pronunciation Repeat and Record (Help them distinguish difference) Homework Required

Strange!!

TherapyDay 4 (May 13): 1. Review Exam: Ask them to read words with their wrong voice Examine if they read correctly Results: Phonetic alphabet reading: Perfect Vocabularies reading: Mena: Perfect Victoria: Bictory (Victory) ????? (What happened on her?) 2. Short Sentence Practicing: Prepare some Short Sentences for them to read See if they read correctly Homework Required Victoria’s Problem: Try to find out the reason

TherapyDay 5 (May 20): 1. Review Exam: Ask them to read the short sentence required Examine if they read correctly Results: Mena: Perfect (Congratulations!!!!) Victoria: Bictory (Victory) …. 2. Victoria’s Problem: She feel so difficult to pronounce /v/ She can imitate correctly, but forget quickly She try to remember it, but she can’t She feel so sorry

RespondsAbout This Project: 1. Achievement: Systematic teach students in pronunciation (first time) See the changing of the students (pronunciation correcting) Know how to find different ways of teaching on different students 2. Frustration: Not all the mistakes can be corrected easily Some mistakes maybe impossible to be changed The teaching results lies in the reliance and believing of the

students to the teacher, not purely attribute to the teaching skills or method

Your teaching may cause kind of conflict with their English teachers
