Quotes  “★★★ ½ Stars. Quality dramedy with an outstanding ensemble cast. An entertaining dialogue-fest… with a cast that brings their best to every scene” - Film Threat “A delightful, sometimes profane, often painfully honest ensemble comedy. Think Empire Records, but with less 90s jeans and a smaller set. The comparison rings true not just in the fact that both films have great ensembles of young, talented future-stars, but that both films feature a soundtrack that rocks. Clever and fun” - Film School Rejects “Inebriated insanity… The Kitchen follows in the grand tradition of ensemble comedies. The beauty of the film’s cinematography and its script is that absolutely none of it tries too hard. Filming The Kitchen may have been a challenge for the director and his cast, but it’s certainly no challenge to watch.” - Filmoria “An across-the-board, solidly entertaining cast and unpretentious visual storytelling.” - IndieWire “A surprising ensemble experimental-dramedy with a wonderfully attractive cast. Worth your time.” – Videotapeworm “The Kitchen serves up the perfect mix of comedy and drama making it an engaging and often hilarious film that entertains from beginning to end. Besides an amazing ensemble cast, the writing is also top-notch.” – VideoViews “Overall, The Kitchen is a nice enough comedy” – Discdish “Consistently engaging” - Twitch

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT Why set a movie entirely in a kitchen? The idea for THE KITCHEN originated when a producer told Jim Beggarly and myself about a production fund started at Paramount for ultra-low budget films. Jim wrote the first draft of the script of THE KITCHEN. I was instantly excited about the script – it was funny, touching and most importantly took place in one room! We called the aforementioned producer and told her we had the perfect project for Paramount. After reviewing the script she politely explained that what we would not be of interest to Paramount. They were looking for genre projects. They wanted the next PARANORMAL ACTIVITY or JACKASS. And THE KITCHEN was neither. And perhaps that's what drew me to the film. It was touching and funny, it had the characteristics of a great theater piece, but I could picture it cinematically. I thought about all the house parties my roommate and I used to throw in our cramped apartment in Brooklyn. I thought about the way no matter what party I went to, I always for some reason, ended up in the kitchen. I didn’t want THE KITCHEN to just fall by the wayside because we wouldn’t appeal to Paramount. That’s when I found Emily Ting, our producer. I brought her the script and she saw what we saw…and before we knew it, our giant cast and tiny crew moved into a kitchen in Glendale for fifteen glorious days. My main concern with the film was whether or not you would get sick of spending all this time in one room. But knowing and loving films like TAPE, and even, NOISES OFF. I thought if we get the timing right and keep the story moving, we’d be okay. At the core of the entire story is our main character Jennifer Parker. I turned thirty a couple years ago and have many friends who are in the same position. Thirty is an age of self-evaluation – for whatever reason the number holds some sort of expectation for each individual person. As you grow up, you think I’ll be here when I’m 30, I’ll have this certain life, this certain job, this partner and this family that I dreamed. And all too often, we have to come to terms with the reality of where we actually are at that age. With this film, I hoped to explore that concept in the character of Jennifer Parker. Even though she isn’t exactly where she wants to be on this particular evening…I like to think that she realizes that it is just one day of 365. Tomorrow might be better. Tomorrow should be better.
