The three learner-centered approaches that i will use to improve the learning of my students are: • Cooperative Learning • Learning Centers • Problem-Based Learning & Inquiry Learning

Cooperative Learning

• It involves small groups of students working together to solve a problem or to complete a task.

• All students in the group must actively participate. The success of the group depends on the input of each student.

• This method promotes active participation, students' ability to work together, and improvement of social skills.

Objectives• I usually lecture the topic of transistors to my

students. • The students will use the computers in the

classroom to research the theory and applications of transistors. They will be given criteria for the research and have 3 classes to complete the task.

• They will share their findings among the other in a group.

• If there are missing information during the group discussion than i will give them feedback at the end of the class.

Outcomes and Evaluation• This learning method promotes independent

study, information sharing, and to improve their social skills.

• The students must complete the task to the satisfaction of the instructor or to the specified criteria.

• The students will be graded based on their participation in the group, information sharing, and be ready to answer questions from the instructor.

Learning Centers

• It involves students work independently or in small groups to complete a task or group discussion.

• Instructor can present questions/problems/worksheets/web-search where students perform hands-on learning or research a topic on the internet.

Objectives

• For the topic of motor controls in my program, i will wire multiple motor control circuits with inserted faults for the students to troubleshoot.

• students can troubleshoot the circuit independently or in a pair.

• Students will be given a criteria for troubleshooting, find and document the faults, complete the task in 2 classes.

• Students will share their findings with me when they complete the task.

Outcomes and Evaluation• This learning method promotes students to work

independently or in groups to complete hands-on learning.

• Students must be able to find all inserted faults in the circuit.

• Methods of troubleshooting must be documented and explain in details.

• Students will be graded based on their troubleshooting skills and their documentation.

• Students must be ready to answer questions from the instructor.

Problem-Based Learning & Inquiry Learning

• The instructor gives the students a problem where inquiry must be utilized to solve the problem.

• There are four common steps in this method: 1) students receive the problem. 2) students gather data or information. 3) students organize data and attempt an . explanation to the problem. 4) students analyze the strategies they used to . solve the problem.

Objectives• For the section of electronic mathematics review

in my program, i will hand out a math review package for the students to review and complete.

• Students can use the internet to search for equations/steps in solving a problem/steps in using a scientific calculator to solve a problem.

• Students will have 5 classes to complete the package.

• Individual work is encouraged but students can also help the other if required.

Outcomes and Evaluation

• This learning method promotes problem-based learning where inquiry must be utilized to solve technical mathematical problems.

• In the past, i used to mark the packages upon completion from the students, it was too much work.

• From now on, each student will take turn to demonstrate the steps of solving a question from the package.

• Students will be graded based on their participation in group discussion, steps in solving a question, and the ability to demonstrate the procedure of solving a technical problem question.
