Celebs recall Edsa revolutionand what it meant to them

I was a first-time momback in 1986 when the EdsaRevolution broke out. I wasworried about leaving my 6-month old daughter Bianchiat home at the height of thechaos so I was glued to theTV set as the historic eventunfolded.

As soon as President Corytook her oath, my mom wasbusy contacting Kris Aquino, whom she invited to hershow, See-True. That guest ap-pearance of Kris remains tobe the highest-rating inPhilippine TV history.

A quarter of a century lat-er, what does the Edsa phe-nomenon mean to celebri-ties? Where were they whenit all happened? Let’s stop theblame game and not lose thelesson that was Edsa—E-xtraordinary D-isplay of S-oli-darity and A-mor.

KIM ATIENZA:“For me itmeans freedomand love ofcountry. I re-member sleep-ing on thestreet in San-

tolan Edsa using my body toblock the tanks, strafing thecrowd, praying. I rememberMaj. Gen. Antonio Sotelo’shelicopters flying as JuneKeithley’s live broadcastwarned us that these are notfriendly forces and there willbe bombing. We saw the sol-diers inside the chopperswaving the Laban sign. Bu-maliktad sila. Yet anotherreason to proclaim that Godis good!”

JOEY REYES: “It was alife-changing event not onlyfor the country but theworld. People Power rede-fined the role of each citizenin actively shaping the des-tiny of our country. To thisday, I proudly say that I wasthere on Edsa 25 years ago.”

RODERICK PAULATE:“Edsa Revolution is a nation-al memory. It restored ourfreedom and democracy. I re-member our UP group wasasked over the radio to go toLibis to block the tanks head-ing towards MBS-4 (ABS-CBN). I was inside the studiowhen the Marcoses left the

country. People Power re-minds me of the nonvio-lent struggles and tri-umph of the Filipinopeople in restoringfaith in the institutionsof democracy in thecountry. It healed abroken nation. Iba tala-ga ang Pinoy pagnagkaisa at nagsama-sama. I’m proud to tellmy nephews and nieces

that during the revolu-tion when the Pinoyswent out to the streetsto restore our freedom,no matter what thecost, I was there.”

MR. FU: “I was very

young back then. I was justhappy because classes weresuspended and I had fun timewith my Atari. I just realizedthe essence of People Poweryears after. It makes meproud as a Filipino. I wish Iwas there. Bumawi na langako sa coverage ko of the re-cent Edsa celebration at nagyellow vest ako bilang trib-ute. May ganon?”

PINKY AMADOR: “PeoplePower means we can changeour destiny but it also meanswe need to be even morevigilant after. When newsbroke out about the revolu-tion, I was doing a matineeplay, Whodunnit. Bagay yungtitle ng play sa cast of char-acters ng drama sa Edsa thattime.”

ALBERT MARTINEZ:“I was monitoring the...

revolution back then. It wasthe change long overdue andfreedom we Pinoys had beenyearning for.”

CHRISTINE BERSBABAO: “I was 16 thFrom day 1 of Edsa, the streets. I preparewiches and drinks atand gave it to the soToday, these very samdiers who bravely deour freedom are stilland victims of moralrupt generals. Ang tudiwa ng Edsa ay kalamula sa gutom at kuon.”

DINGDONG DANwas 5 years old thenwas growing, I felt thof Edsa growing in mwell. This is the reaswe are reaping the bdemocracy now becaforefathers and herofor it together with tof the people. On itsyear, the torch is beipassed to the presention. Now it’s time tothe world again thateverything is possible

I HAVE always been apolitical. ButEdsa People Power was beyondpolitics. It was impossible not to

be moved by the solidarity that Pinoysshowed the world 25 years ago.

Kapamilya Love TriangleNABASA ko yung exclusiveinterview ni Sarah Geronimosa March issue ng YES! maga-zine. First time nagsalitatungkol sa is-sue angpop/dramaprincess. Na-paka-contro-versial ngtweets niCristine Reyeskamakailan lang and sigurohinintay lang ni Sarah namag-die down ang issue bagosiya mag-open up about whatreally happened with her andRayver. The article is 39pages long and also featuresinterviews with Sarah’s Mom-my Divine, Sharon Cuneta,John Lloyd Cruz amongmany others.

Mommy Divine has oftenbeen painted in the press as“too strict” and even control-ling but she says that she re-ally just wants to guide herdaughter Sarah even sa lovelife. Gusto niya kasi for Sarahng isang guy na maghihintayfor her and won’t interfere inher success. It’s really toughto balance love and career. It’s either bongga ang careertapos not so much ang lovelife. Or, it could be the otherway around. There are a fewblessed ones na bongga pare-ho. Sana isa ako doon!

Sarah and Rayver were to-gether for a year at sa isangtaon na yon, most of the timesa skype lang silanagkakausap. Mahirap talagayun for anyone, ’no! It's liketrying to make a long dis-tance relationship work.

It’s nice to finally hearSarah’s side and we just hopeshe finds the right guy. She’sstill young and is at such abeautiful time in her career. Isay enjoy it, girl! The rightguy will come at the righttime.

Sino itong medyo mayedad na na aktres na hindinaman talaga ganun ka-“sweet.” She appears to beloveable and charming sa TVbut off cam ay mahirap palakatrabaho. Hindi ko pa siyanakaka-trabaho pero maynagkwento lang sa akin. De-manding talaga siya at angmanager niya, nangingialampa sa kwento ng kinabibilan-gan niyang show.

Youth-friendly OscarsOSCARS organizershad touted thisyear’s show as moreyouth-friendly, aim-ing to draw youngerfunkier movie-goersinto the time-wornAcademy Award ex-perience — but ini-tial reaction wasskeptical.

Sunday’s co-pre-senters James Fran-co and Anne Hath-away made joke ref-erence to the youth-chasing aim withinminutes of the start:Franco called herhip, to which shereplied: “You lookvery appealing to ayounger demograph-ic as well.”

But critics werescathing in early on-line comments.

“Despite the many
