Retire this

Ironically, what an-noyed me in AmericanPie back in 1999 (name-ly Sean Williams Scott’sStifler and Jim’s dadplayed by Eugene Levy)are the very things thatmake Reunion work, thefew times that it did.The rest of Reunion keptreminding me why themain cast doesn’t have athriving film career sincethe first Pie film.

Jim (Jason Biggs) andMichelle (Allyson Hanni-gan) are married with akid, Oz (Chris Klein) is acelebrity sportscaster,Kevin (Thomas Ian Nichols) ishousehusband to girlfriend El-lie (Charlene Amoia) andFinch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) isliving the dream around theworld — at least that’s whathe says. At first they don’t tellStifler about the reunion, butof course the resourcefulStifmeister — still residing inhis mom’s house — manages

to squeeze himself into everyscene.

Whereas before it wasabout the gang’s sexual dis-covery before prom night, thistime, despite the years, theyfind themselves still awkward-ly transitioning into real ma-ture men.

The humor is more or lessthe same as it was 12 yearsago. That means mentions of

bodily functions, toilet humor,Stifler’s brand of crassnessand genitalia exposure. If thatmakes you giggly, this movieis for the pubescent in you. Ilaughed mildly three timeswhile watching, and face-palmed myself twice. Thereare many references to the Pieseries, so fans who grew uplaughing with this barkadawill most likely enjoy thesame things in Reunion, with a

hint of nostalgia and alittle sentimentalism.Until Jim’s dad talksagain.

Seeing how the casthas aged physically, Ican say that Tara Reid(Vicky) and Hanniganhave aged rather beauti-fully. Biggs, despite be-ing at the center of thenarrative, can’t pull thestory together by simplydoing the same manner-isms that made theyoung Jim in 1999 theadorable virgin dork. AsI’ve said, the veteransmake this blandly-writ-ten comedy (also the

makers of the Harold and Ku-mar series) bearable to watch.

Scott, Levy and JenniferCoolidge (Stifler’s mom) stealevery scene they’re in, espe-cially that credits scene withLevy and Coolidge that’s prac-tically the funniest in the en-tire film. If that isn’t a signthat the series should end, Idon’t know what is.
